MERGED: Loss To The Titans - General Observations

Very disappointing Loss... This was a game I think we should have built some momentum on but we have to take the good with the bad. The team just looked flat to me.

Falcco haters coming out of the woodwork? He had all day to throw the ball and didn't because nobody was open. The times he tried to force it it got picked off. You're going to criticize him regardless.

This game was poorly coached on both sides, and poorly executed on both sides. I'd say the offense was worse on the coaching, and the defense on the execution, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter because the whole team played terribly.

Why the hell was LeVoir starting at guard over Gurode? He was terrible all game.

Not to blame the officials, but they weren't helping by ignoring PI all day long.

I'm not a Flacco hater, the kid just frustrates me. And I already said the loss was not all on him.

You know, as expected there's still a lot of bagging on Foxworth in this game, but he wasn't even a starter. He gave up one TD on a well-timed throw and catch. Cary Williams on the other hand gave up big plays on nearly every drive. Webb showed again that he's apparently the most consistent (and healthy) corner on this team today, while the rest of the secondary (including Ed Reed) showed that they've got some work to do to get back in sync.

He might just lack the mental acumen. Maybe Trent Dilfer is right and he's reached his ceiling.

I guess this is why people say Matt Ryan is better.
Maybe. But I still don't think Matt Ryan is better.

Hah I don't either, actually, even with this loss.

We need Jimmy and Carr back. Webb shouldnt have to make 10 tackles a game, but he has been playing really well.

so thats the same rationale as saying theres 2 seconds left and your down by 3 at your own 40. but dont do a hail mary because the defense would know its a pass and would just knock it down. all im saying is that yea if we didnt get it were still down by two scores but if we do were a play away from being in the lead
Except that it wasn't really like that at all. You can't make a kick (with any shot of making it) while the Ravens could take their three and hope that their defense or ST came up with a miracle.

But it doesn't matter. The game was over long before that decison, as far as I'm concerned. Let's hope they have a better showing against St. Louis.

It is actually possible to criticize someone without being a hater. We've got to stop making excuses for Joe on days like this. He played badly. He needs to get better. You don't have to be a hater to admit that.

What am I supposed to say? "Great job Flacco, you're pretty darn good, as you say."

When he's on, he's one of the best. But when he's off, he's one of the worst, as shown today.

What in the world was that!!!! The passing game was horrible (except one series in the 3rd where they were still unable to find the endzone). The running game was suspect (Ray Rice played well but the o-line just couldn't block anybody). As far as defense goes where were the secondary. The d-line did a good job of shutting down CJ but did a horrible job of pass rush or even applying SOME pressure. And on another note, why in the fourth quarter with only a few minutes to play did we kick a field goal on fourth and goal. I know we had been backed up a little due to a penalty but we were down by thirteen. We should have went for the touchdown because it could have made it a one possession game. If we had failed on the touchdown it would have been the same as a successful field goal, a necessary two touchdowns to win. It just seemed to me, mathematically, to be a dumb decision.

Agreed. Although it is a "team" sport, certain players need to step up and play better, like Foxworth and Flacco. He's in his fourth year and he still has trouble against the cover 2. He's my boy, but he needs to play better.

did u see how the Steelers bounced back against the bad team today?

well the Ravens get the Rams next week and they arent that good either, if the Ravens get whooped next week then u can start to worry

its only one game, the OL didnt play well, Boldin had drops, missed PI calls by refs especially when the defender held onto Boldins arm on that TD pass in the endzone..that would have been 7 if Boldin had two hands

the secondary played the worst game I can remember in a while, the entire team played poorly

im out, i cant stand all the negative ppl who overreact, Lee Evans needs to get his ankle healed up, he's still not at 100%....we need his speed because other guys just dont have it...i'd like to see Doss and David Reed get more looks...where were our TEs? They can play better...but it all starts with the OL..today they weren't very good

There's a difference between criticizing him and saying he's hit his ceiling, a substantial one.

And honestly, he wasn't even the biggest problem today. Aside from the atrocious coaching, LeVoir and Foxworth were awful all day long, and Williams wasn't a whole lot better. He didn't have a good game by any standard but he certainly looked on point at times.

I can't believe Webb is leading the team with a crushing 20 tackles on the year. Never want your CB leading the team in tackles.

Honestly I think you're taking way too much stock in what is just us being honestly critical of this team in what is ultimately a bad loss. We looked terrible. Saying "we'll look better next week" isn't really a way of dealing with the actual issues, which are very real and have plagued this team for years now. We lost this game to the Titans the exact same way we blew last year's playoff game: mental errors, flat play, poor decision-making. Until we can correct these kinds of things, we are going to continue to have a hard time every January.

They have to annihilate the Rams before people regain hope. How are we supposed to make a run for the Super Bowl if we can't even stop the Titans.

i think that mainly has to do with him being at the los so much.. i swear he is lined up by JJ or suggs all the time and he has made some great tackles these two games

It was not our game today. The titans looked good and we should look forward to next week. I'm still happy over the steelers beat down.

This is the first time the Ravens have lost by more than a touchdown since the Green Bay beat us 28-10 in 2009.

Wish it was to a better team.

You know your defense is struggling when the CB, Webb, is the leading tackler in both games

last week he had 11, this week 10..that means guys are getting to the 2nd level..that needs to change going forward, the defense needs to play better especially in the secondary

AND we need to find a way to get pressure on the QB..because when they have time we get lit up...

I disagree. Its just like Cam to send all of his receivers on 10 yard patterns in the Cover 2 so they're all cut off by the entire Titans defense. Should've been sending Lee (and Torrey if he's in) deep while having Dickson and Boldin cross the middle. He called the deep ball several times but Flacco either got hit or ran after the stellar play of All-Pro Guard Mark LeVoir got him wrecked.

It was also the first time in 26 games that we gave up a touchdown in the 3rd quarter of any game.

The fact that he can't beat the cover 2, even with additions like Torrey Smith and Lee Evans, should not only fall on him, but Cam Cameron as well. I just thought that it was having three of the same WR's last year that made Joe had a hard time against the scheme, but I suppose it runs deeper than that.
the part that bothers me the most about our offensive play calling is last week against pittsburgh we had tight ends and receivers running across the middle of the field. this week on flacco's tipped pass interception was 2 receivers streaking downfield and a tight end running across with a corner on him.

cameron always wants to run plays like san diego where he runs streaks and 20-30 yard developing routes, you cant operate that way in the nfl anymore. thats y new england and green bay are murdering everyone because of gaining 30 to 40 yards in the air they are gaining 30 to 40 yards on 5 yard dinks turning into 40 yard runs.

Titans D shut down the run early, taking away the PA pass, which is really the Ravens' strong suit. If we can't get the run going, our ability to go over the top is seriously limited. Flacco always seems to overthrow those routes unless they're PA passes.

You'd think we'd try to go over the middle more often than we do when passing. We've got Q and 2 really good young TEs to use, but we're busy with this Air Coryell "Run to set up the big pass" mentality. Mostly because that's the offense that Cam loves. But we've got the personnel to go for the mid-range passes, too. Too bad Cam always sticks to his guns, even when against a bad defensive matchup (like, say, the Titans' Cover 2 D).

As for the D, it looks like our weakness against the pass is starting to hurt us. We thrive on forcing turnovers when they try to pass, so we can't putz around without pressure, lest our mediocre secondary get picked apart. Of course, the Steelers' mediocre O-line probably made our pass rush look quite a bit better than it really was; against the Titans' solid O-line, it became apparent that the only real threat we have in our pass rush is Suggs.

I could just be overreacting to one loss so far. But note that we also lost (or almost lost) several games last season, too, and often for basically the same reasons we lost today (couldn't run, didn't adjust offense, defense couldn't get to the QB or stop big pass plays from happening).
