MERGED: Loss To The Titans - General Observations

You might be right. This game was not won or lost in the trenches as much as it was in the secondary.
Our secondary isn't really designed (until Jimmy starts progressing) to be shut down. They rely upon the front seven to get pressure. Our front seven was non-existant which made the corners look a lot worse.

How did Flacco figure into this?
He didn't play like the elite QB like everyone on this site is saying that he is. Especially considering the Titan's secondary isn't "amazing" as BmoreBmore pointed out to me.

and Kenny Britt is a great WR, he's going to have a monster year with a QB who can throw the ball

Titans always play tough defense, if we hadnt turned it over 3 times and our defense played better we could have won..

coulda woulda shoulda

the Rams are going to get destroyed thats all i know

I never expected us to go 16-0 no way that could happen... I was just counting on a winning season, I assume we should be able to pull out 10 wins this year. We should atleast be a wildcard for sure in the playoffs, could be better, but we could be worse, but I am hoping for better!

I wouldn't hang on this loss to much, the Titans are a sound team... they have a nice defense, vet, qb okay receving core and one of the best if not the best RB in the NFL. In my opinion? The Titans played a good game, you can't say we lose because we sucked, we were just out played by a team that realllly wanted the win. I am sure we will be back in full stride next week against the Rams.

Still early in the season. We didn't come to play they did. We'll makee our adjustments for the Rams and come out swinging. Until then it will be funny to observe the notorious baltimore fans who will start calling for Flacco's head, the fairweather fans.

well when your OL doesnt pass protect and your WRs cant get open its tough for any QB to have a good day

...Joe knows how things work, he was praised last week and will take heat this week..but its still not all his fault

the story of this game is the Ravens D and their inability to get off the field, the secondary needs a lot of work

Exactly. "Nobody was open" is not a defense that you have to hear used to defend Brees, Brady, Manning, or Rodgers. Watch last week's Packers/Saints game. Those QBs made a ton of throws to well-covered receivers. Joe has to work on his accuracy between the numbers if he's going to join their company.

That tipped ball was because Finnigan was a step ahead of Dickson and was deflected by Finnigan, so yes the interception was Joe's fault because the ball shouldn't have been thrown. But I'm not going to blame the loss on him.
Basically Finnigan left his man open twice. These things happen. When you have teams early on, you have no film. I think our goal should be to go 3-1 before the bye.

Game made me sick to my stomach. I don't think it's because we lost...I expect some losses this year...it's because we played so well last week to absolutely playing horrendously this week. Too much of a high to go straight to a low.

I feel Cam should have been terminated after last season, this game only serves as a reminder of how horrible an OC he is. We are back to not having an offensive identity...great.

well thats attainable, the Jets are the only team that really can beat us imo...the Rams OL isnt very good, their defense isnt very good, their top WR got hurt..etc etc

the Jets D is good but they still dont have a good pass rush, we should be able to do enough to win...as long as the Defense decides to show up

The QB pressure excuse isn't really flying, either. Hasselbeck had a small pocket all game, hands in his face, short times to throw, just like Joe did, and he made it all look easy, hitting plenty of receivers who had DBs draped on them. I love Joe, but this loss is around his neck.

While all the critics are debating about whether Joe is an elite quarterbac, we need to be worried about becoming an elite team. No matter who lines up against us we should be able to handle the challenge. There's not a team in the league that I can say is flat out better than us talent wise (minus our CB situation). So no matter if it the Steeler, Colts, Patriots, Jets or whoever, elite teams do what they do best and win

what game were you watching? this was a team loss..did Joe allow the Titans to go over 400 yards of total offense? their OL played much better than ours, part of the reason is crowd noise and their defense getting off the ball quickly

its not all on Joe thats for sure, but since he's the QB thats who ppl point to..which is crazy because the entire team lost this game, the WRs didnt get separation same as last year..so that kind of makes it hard to complete passes, Joe was on the run quite a bit...

Once again. Don't even worry, the Ravens will be back. But whats most amazing is if the Bengals win today they will be leading the division at 2-0... lol.
I know I was thinking that earlier. They have a very legit shot at being the division leader. That's a head scratcher.

I agree with this. Except for a few nice throws when he had a nice pocket, I think Flacco played terrible today. He tried to force too many throws, and he should've been picked off a third time at the goal line. Whereas last week he was quick and decisive with his passes and was throwing guys open, today he just looked really slow getting the ball out. I'm actually not as disappointed in the Ravens loss (because I think with their schedule, the playoffs are pretty much a lock) as I am with Flacco not turning that corner like a lot of us thought he did last week. I think it's probably pretty much accepted as fact that the Ravens will only go as far in the playoffs as Flacco can take them.

i thought the ravens d played alright especially given the fact that the titans won the field position battle all day. they started a lot of drives in our territory. they gave up a lot of yards but thats how our defense works. hold teams to 3. but we definitely have a lot to work on defensively thats for sure

exactly

im worried about our defense...and im worried about our WRs not being able to get open...thats a problem, Joe cant do anything with defenders all over the receivers

What about Torrey Smith? Isn't he supposed to be a burner? Yet he's never open! Put him or Laquan to return punts. See what they can do.

People keep saying Kenny Britt/Nate Washington are great players. They are decent WRs. But our secondary(especially Foxworth) made them look like superstars.

From pre-season, week1,week2 Foxworth blew out almost every pass that was thrown to him.
It's time we get rid of him. His the highest paid CB we got and his either going to be 1)injured again 2) cost us a game, with gurantee TD pass to every game.

Flacco in week2 had the worst Quarterback rating with 61.8. Just sad.

We lost to a 3-13 team today, a team that lost by Jags(who got owned by Jets today). This is not acceptable, considering this should be a Superbowl calibur team.

yeah u have to hold the ball longer when your WRs arent getting open...funny how that works, the offense and defense didnt look good, and because of that Joe doesnt look good

this is a TEAM Game

its amazing how some ppl just single guys out, Ed Reed got beat by a TE on a big pass play, Ray Lewis had 1 tackle after halftime..the DL got zero pressure for most of the game

flip that and the Titans did everything that the Ravens did not

I'm just going to be honest for a second, and this isn't out of frustration. I wouldn't think twice about a loss if it were to a team like the Packers, Patriots, Saints, Steelers, Eagles, etc. But the fact of the matter is, we lost to the Titans where Foxworth was burnt and we couldn't even get one sack. Elite QB's like Manning, Brees and Brady would find ways to come back and find open players in spite of their OC not being able to deliver with the best plays. This is a knock on Flacco, and I'm sure that a lot of people here know that I'm a huge fan of his, but he needs to step up. Not sure how we can beat the defending AFC champions in a convincing victory, then lose to the Titans where Chris Johnson didn't do much. There's nothing that we can take away from this game to stay positive for next week. We should have won it, it's as easy as that.

I'm not hitting the panic button, but this team as a whole disappointed me today.

I am not worried, just feel we shouldn't have to even go through this. We should destroy most of the league not be up and down all season. I am glad it is early because soon we will have to kick it in to the next gear to push for the playoffs, but if we look like the same old Ravens, we will more than likely have the same old results

Yes and that Interception to Lee Evans near the start was a horrible throw.

Id like to see David Reed get some passes thrown his way, I like LaQuan too and Doss

..guys just werent open, the announcers were saying it all day..Joe had nowhere to go and when he tried to force some throws they got picked off...just a sad performance

We threw one deep ball all game. Its not torrey's fault hes not targeted. We never use our #3 receiver. Doss isn't going to be any better.
