More Shots At Flacco (Still?!?)

158 posts in this topic

I just read an ESPN.com article where Trent Dilfer rated what under 27 QBs have the highest ceilings (thus who will be the best at the height of their career.) All of these QBs were rated above Flacco.

-Josh Freeman
-Mark Sanchez
-Matt Ryan
-Sam Bradford
-Matthew Stafford

I'm sick of hereing about this, the exact words Dilfer used in his articles were "Flacco needs to prove he can win those big games and succeed in critical moments." This article was written today (after the Steelers game) so why are we still talking about Flacco's inability to win big games. Either way when is he going to get any respect.

It's Trent Dilfer. I know he helped us win a Super Bowl and all, but he's in no position to be able to rank QB's. This list became a joke when I saw Mark Sanchez on it.

Oh Trent. Still sour over what happened. Trent knows what its like to get no respect, perhaps he's just doing Joe a favor in his eyes. Pocket a SB.

1st....the "BIG" games have playoff and superbowl implications. those are the more pressured games...NOT....a week one win over the steelers. sure, Flacco has won more playoff wins on the road than all of the above mentioned QBs but he still have to produce wins in the "BIG" games (i.e. AFC Divison and Championship games)

2nd...now that we have a O-line that knows how to block for Joe, he will really put up great numbers and then Dilfer and all of the other analysts will be singing his praises. don't worry about this article. we have bigger fish to fry...you know....like the Titans tomorrow.

I understand that Flacco had seven turnovers and 170 yards rushing to help him on Sunday, but a lot of that (especially the turnovers) was directly affected by Flacco. Flacco put us ahead early, making the Steelers play catch up. Flacco also controlled things in the offense like line assignments and I'm sure he probably adjusted or audibled some runs to help Rice. Heck, Rice even said it was the Joe Flacco show. 3 touchdowns as well might I add. And we know Flacco can come back in the fourth quarter. He's done it many times. Granted, he even had two taken away by a missed field goal and a missed penalty.

Yeah, I think Trent will never get over it. I don't like how he's become this supposed "QB guru", spouting off garbage all the time. He's a lot like Warren Sapp I suppose. I do not get the irrational disdain for Flacco. Tell me one thing these "high ceiling" guys can do that Joe can't. What a stupid topic (Dilfer's high ceiling, not the OP).

Josh Freeman...one good year against bad opponents...missed playoffs.
Sanchez, great playoff runs, but is really more of a game manager with some clutch ability.
Stafford? Has he played a whole game yet? Oh yeah, one.
Ryan....I'm not going there.
Bradford, wayyyy too early to say anything, but I like him the best out of all of these.
Flacco? 33 wins in 3 years and one week? 4 playoff road wins? Just demolished his biggest rival? Nah...

The thing that annoys me is that Trent wins ONE superbowl, which had little to do with him as a QB and more to do with a shaky opponent and a good offense, and yet he thinks he can criticize quaterbacks as though he is Johhny Unitas.

Until Flacco does something that separates him completely from these other QBs(Superbowl, amazing stats, etc) he will always be looked down on by analysts and whoever else that doubts him despite the fact the he has had more success than anyone on that list except Sanchez(who is carried by his team more than anything).

He must have some nice vaulted ceilings at his house.

I guess its not too bad to be underrated because then we get to watch analysts eat their words. Something like "Baltimore cannot win against Pittsburgh." Good call guys.

I hear you on this one... Sanchez barely deserves to be in the discussion. If it wasn't for the fact that the Jets have luckily backed into the previous two playoffs then he most certainly wouldn't be in it. He's never had a 80 or above QB rating on the season whereas Joe's never been under 80 and he has a career completion percentage of 54.6, 7.3 percent below Joe's career average. Sanchez is the definition of "riding the team".

Lol coming from Trent Dilfer means absolutely nothing. Dont let it bother you. If it came from someone more respected like Joe Montana or something it might make me a little upset but it still means nothing. We all watch Ravens more then they do. We know what Joe can do, its just a matter of time.

Ability to play doesnt mean you judge qbs well.
Its an opinion, piece, they all are. Even the ones we choose to like.
I dont agree with trent and most importantly joe doesnt care....

Trent is barely different. He rode the team to the SB and then took glory he didnt deserve. Dont get me wrong, he helped win certainly, but it was not because of his superior QB skills.

There's a difference, though.

Trent Dilfer is, arguably, the worst ever QB to win a Super Bowl. Joe Flacco is a legit Franchise Quarterback that I'd take over EVERY player he has listed.

Josh Freeman - One season slightly better statistically than Flacco's second year season and he's getting hyped. He's a one-season-wonder that was pretty bad against Detroit, at home no less.

Mark Sanchez - He's closer to the bottom 10 QBs in the NFL than he is the top 10. Inconsistent and incredibly over-hyped.

Matt Ryan - Awful against the Bears. Chokes in most (I don't count the game against us as coming through in the clutch: White cheated. Fact) key games and struggles against good teams out-doors.

Sam Bradford - Decent rookie season? Awesome. How'd he do against the Eagles? Oh...

Matt Stafford - Bring him up when he starts more than 4 games consecutively.

My real beef with this whole thing is how in the whole wide world could Mark "The Choke" Sanchez have a higher ceiling than Joe. He throws about as well as Frank Walker plays CB.

Are you kidding me, Dirty Sanchez, im sick of him getting all this love with his one page playbook. Did Trent even watch the Jets game. lol unreal, i think he should keep his mouth shut and wait a couple of weeks before opening it. I think Trent is still bitter of what happened to him over a decade ago. What a Joke.

We as Ravens fans cannot make other people respect Flacco, that is something he has to do for himself, not that he cares what other people say about him because he knows the Ravens fans have his back. As for Trent Dilfer what does he know about playing QB, he's definitely the wrong one to rank the position, if not for the Raven Defense he'd be in the stands beside us

I could actually see that happening. "Now that Stafford has played an entire quarter of a season, it is clear that he is an elite quarterback in the NFL."

Not surprised, Trent is still extremely bitter about how things worked out for him in Baltimore, and i don't really blame him, I mean he won the Superbowl and they brought in someone else; that's pretty weak.

But, Lets not get ahead of ourselves here though, Joe played a great week, but he does still have a lot to prove, it was after all only one week.

Joe could lead us to a 41-7 win in the Super Bowl and the critics still wouldn't be satisfied because the game was too easy and he didn't lead a 4th quarter comeback. Joe just cannot win.

When Joe leads us to a 16-0 regular season record and throws for over 4,000 yards and 30+ TDs, it's going to be because we had an easy schedule. Watch.
