Colts passing on the #1 DT?

11 posts in this topic

I have no idea why they could pass on Alan Branch for Anthony Gonzalez, its obvious that they want a great offense but I still think that Defense in the #1 issue on that team and they were fools to pass on Branch and Paul Pozulony. Thoughts???

I agree Defense should have been their #1 concern

But Branch wasn't the best DT

I have no idea why they skipped over him though

Stupid pick.

Colts wanted a Slot Receiver because Stokley gets hurt a lot. I guess they want to replace Brandon becasue they will get rid of him.

Fact of the matter is, Alan Branch is somewhat undeserving of the title of #1 DT, simply because there are questions about his motor.

On-field play aside, if there comes a point where a player's passion for the game is ever questioned, then that's bound to raise a red flag. Character is a big deal in the NFL nowadays, and if Branch becomes lazy and finds distractions other than football, there's a chance that he could be a repeat of Tank Johnson, Pacman Jones, Chris Henry, Odell Thurman, etc.

If the work ethic isn't there, the productivity won't be there. And you don't want to invest millions of dollars in a player who refuses to keep the weight at a reasonable range and refuses to even look at a playbook or work out. Simple as that.

I don't care how u are, you shouldn't spend you frist pick on a slot receiver. They have 2 probowl WRs and solid TE that they use as a slot, and a really good run game. I know their D had a hellva run but u have to address it. They lost June and a couple of DB's, i mean how much help doesn't the best QB in the game need?

J man, The Colts already got rid of Brandon. He signed a one year contract with the Denver Broncos on March 20th.

Espn story link here

Stokley was hurt most of last season, I expect the Colts let him go for the same reason that the Ravens didn't attempt to re-sign him when he was a FA here....injuries...injury prone.

He's a good wide out when he's healthy, which unfortunetly isn't much of the time. Not for what he was being paid by the teams he was under contract with.

We'll see how he does with Denver next season.....

they shouldve gotten him

and any good DT that gets released should be picked up by them

hope not though so when we play them we can make it so willis runs over a safety and then the run is a TD. cause they got some problems with that run defense

I actually liked the pick of Anthony Gonzales as I think he fits their offensive scheme perfectly. I do, however, think they needed to address their run defense in a major way and while they have slept on it Denver has gone out and got big Sam Adams and traded for another 330+ DT with St. Louis. So they showed that there were options there but Indy doesn't feel the need to go after any of them.

well we know Gerard Warren is no Pat Williams so they needed a DT

their run defense will improve ofcourse Sam Adams is not as good as he was and a DT from St Louis is like signing one from Buffalo or Indy...it cant help very much

Harrison is getting old and I'm sure they wanna have security just incase.
