Was The Playoff Loss A Blessing In Disguise?

23 posts in this topic

On the surface, it seems rather silly since we would have hosted the conference championship game and possibly gone to the Super Bowl. However, I don't think we could have beaten the Packers last year anyway and I think all these off season moves by Ozzie were a direct result of losing that game. Maybe if we won that game Ozzie is more inclined to stand pat and not make the type of wholesale changes to our roster. Instead of coming into this season as Super Bowl losers we have reloaded and look better than ever.

What do you guys think?

To answer your original question, losing was not a blessing in disguise. I would have loved it if we knocked out our nemesis and rivalry in the playoffs in their house. If we would have got to and lost in the Super Bowl it would have definitely hurt, but reliving the fact that we knocked the Steelers out of the playoffs would've taken some of the sting away.

I get what you're saying but I think the game this past week would have been different if the Steelers were the team that was angry. I'm also factoring in the draft too. If we got all the way to the Super Bowl and lost that stinks by itself but on top of that you get the 2nd worst position in the draft. It's doubtful we get Jimmy Smith or Torrey Smith or Jah Reid. Say what you will about Torrey and Reid, the coaches and Ozzie loved them and looking at our recent drafts I will not argue with their selections.

I get what you're saying, but only one of them has the potential RIGHT NOW to be an impact player.

I started this whole thread with a "big picture" view.

Losses are never a blessing, especially when it comes against your most hated rival. I have faith that Ozzie would have had a stellar draft picking #26 or #31 or #32... but I certainly see your point.

I don't know about this. I would have much rather beaten the Steelers and I'm assuming the Ravens feel the same. Everything that was addressed in the off season were already problems, our loss in the playoffs had less to do with those problems than the Ravens just giving up the ghost. I'm quite positive that the O-line stuff, receivers, Heap, etc. would have been addressed whether we'd gone to the Super Bowl and won or whether what happened happened.

naw bruh! losing wasn't a blessing in disguise! perhaps this type of thinking is as a result of some of our newer additions to the roster and our awesome win on Sunday BUT we need to move on now from week 1. it was just one game and now.....IT'S OVER!!!!!

let's focus on beating the Titans!

I'm going to continue to bask in the glow of the thorough embarrassment of the Steelers by the Ravens for the rest of the year, regardless of what happens with the season. Even if we lost every other game this year, I'd still be able to at least keep that game in my heart.

Not a blessing in disguise. You have to give yourself as many chances as you can to win a SB. Who's to say we can still stop the Pack this year? I'd like to give it a shot, just like last year.

True, one game at a time, but it's the players and coaches' jobs to move on to the next opponent; however, fans' job is celebrating every big win and sometimes the win so big like whooping the Steelers when no one in the league can is sometimes lasted till the the openning kickoff against the Titans.

My brother and I are still watching the highlights of last Sunday game.....

i understand what you are saying. i have the game recorded and watched it a few times this week myself...BUT...my mentality is that our job (Ravens) is no where near being finished. this is a long season and we (yes...we fans to) have to put that game behind us and get ready for the next team...the Titans! we (Ravens fans) need to act like this isn't the first time that we have ever beat the steelers. maybe not as by a large a margin as Sunday but we've beaten them before. now...let's move on! if not...we could be starring at being 1-1 instead of 2-0.

A loss is inherently a failure but I do think it added extra motivation to an already stoked fire. Obviously, it would be optimal to beat the Steelers every time we see them but it doesn't happen.

They did address some needs and it paid off in week one so if that is a blessing because of a playoff loss so be it.

I don't think so. When you look at the way we've improved, a lot of people say we're now better built to beat the Steelers but I don't believe that's necessarily the case. I look at it as though Ozzie tried to address a bunch of weaknesses. For example: the O-line, speed at WR, a number 1 corner. I think he'd have made the same/similar improvements if we'd beaten the Steelers.

Lolwut? We don't have to act like anything except happy fans. Sure, we've beaten them before but never like this, not even close. You're saying that if the fans don't move on, it might effect the team and we'll lose against Tennessee? Psssh, some of you guys need to lighten up. We don't have to prepare, we don't have to focus, we don't have to do anything except be happy and if people wanna revel in this most delicious win over the Steelers, then just let them and stop being stick-in-the-muds. If you have some sort of superstition thing going on as far as looking ahead is concerned, then just pretend no one is looking ahead and leave it at that.

The ONLY way I will ever agree that it was a blessing would have to be if we won it all this year. Otherwise no it still hurt just as much because we had that damn game won. Grrrrrrrr

Absolutely not. We would've hosted the AFC title game, and likely would've went to the SB.

I highly doubt we would've beaten GB, but still.
