Belichick To Reed: You're The Best Free Safety To Ever Play This Game

45 posts in this topic

I watched the first part of "A Football Life" on NFLN on Bill Belichick (it's him wired throughout the '09 season, and they spent quite a bit of time showing them planning for the Ravens), and it's amazing how he and Tom Brady spent a good hour or so gameplanning for Ed Reed as if he was the only person on the team. Both Brady and Belichick then go on about how Ed is exceptional at everything, and that you always have to know where he is.

Before the game, Belichick was talking to Ed and was gushing over him like a 15 year-old girl at a Justin Bieber concert, ending the conversation by saying "You're the best free safety to ever play this game."

There it is, from a guy who may go down as the greatest coach of all time. I just thought it was cool to see. And it's an interesting special in general, I'd catch it if you haven't already.

On a related note, Belichick is not a huge fan of Derrick Mason.

I watched it too, watching it again now, just to see him and brady going over Reed lol. Even Brady was like "my god thats incredible" when refering to Ed's ability to recognize where the offense is trying to go, and when Ed totally disregarded one route that most people would bite on, only to break off to another reciever to pick the ball off

The only bad thing is that watching this reminded me of that Clayton drop on 4th down.

Spygate or no Spygate, Bill Belichick is still one of the best coaches in the history of the game, if not the absolute best.

Such praise from Belichick doesn't come loosely. It means an awful lot, coming from him. Despite popular opinion of his arrogance, Belichick seems to be a decent person. He's the same guy who called Steve Bisciotti direct to lobby on John Harbaugh's behalf for the vacant Ravens head coaching job.

I remember seeing footage of him after he coached Ed Reed in the pro-bowl.

He's almost as big of a fan as I am. ;)

I am quite curious as to what he said about Mason.

BB has always had a major man crush on Ed Reed and, why not? Dude's amazing.
Was going to say the same thing. He's been a fan #20 for a long time! He said something about Sammy Baugh and Reed being the best football players ever!

Not to mention he's the one that stockpiled the draft pick that picked up our Ray Lewis.

Can u imagine if Art chose to keep Belichick when he moved team to bmore?
That would've been amazing. We'd be a dynasty right now (with probably Tom Brady as Qb; I'd rather have Flacco though solely for the future). The pats would be patsies hahahahaha

Did anyone else find it kinda creepy when Belichick started talking about Ed in that low voice, zoning out about our boy in front of Tom Brady.

"You know, he's crouching down low back there...playin... playin real low..."

Then he seems to remember his surroundings, and starts getting technical again. That was weird.

Question; what did Mase say to set Belichick off? I couldn't understand what Mase said lol
IIRC he said "I keep a smile on my face" or something like that.

I will give him that he is one of the best in the modern era (although I would still take Parcells) but all time. I mean it is your opinion and is totally subjective I guess. Although all time he MIGHT be top 5 in my book.

Knoll
Landry
Lombardi
Halas
Walsh
..... this is where it is iffy. Buddy Ryan, Madden, Parcells, Bellichek, Could all be there

No Shula? I believe he supplants Knoll somewhere.

Trying to steal Ed in the latter part of his career, is just a guess. Belicheck is a good coach he def in my mind at least will not go down as one of the best in history with cheating on the resume. You have to be kidding me. I will never forget, the poor man's wife he stole. Smh......

While this is about Bellichek, Why does his drafts gets so much hype. I was looking at this the other day he really is not all that impressive in the draft, Ozzie and Colbert do better jobs in my opinion.

Oh and if you are going to say "nuh-uh", or "your crazy" please have proof

I agree Belichick has missed a lot in the draft, but he manages to make so many smart moves leaving the Pats with such an excess of draft picks that they still have a strong young team. He also approaches talent evaluation differently than most. Instead of going after workout warriors, he picks smart, hard-working players that can fit his system.
