What Is Wrong With The Steelers?

I don't get NFL Network but I just saw this clip

Looks like some "experts" are starting to talk about how old the Steelers are and surprise surprise...not the Ravens.

They'll come back strong like last year form on week 9....

But but but, by then we're already so much improved from week 1 coming in their house. Although we might not see dominant scores from week 1 against them, we still beat them by 2 scores on week 9.

Everyone including NFL N, and even James Walker on ESPN.com even said the Steelers defense looks old. James said the Steelers D has 8 starters who are over 30, no wonder why they are the second oldest defense in the league.

See now Pittsburgh is doing what we did, sitting our young talent on the bench. Now there is nothing wrong with it but at least we knew it was time to let our young guys play, and I think it's time for Pittsburgh to let some young Defensive players play and see what they can do. Ziggy Hood played great when Aaron Smith was injured and I'm surprised Hood didn't start this season and maybe Cameron Heyward should start over Santa Keisel, but hey if they want to stay old I'm fine with that too lol.

I'm not looking forward to playing them again. It'll be in Pittsburgh and they'll have a lot to prove.. Should be a great game though. I don't buy that we have figured out the Steelers and will now destroy them with ease from this moment on. This COULD be a collapse year for the Steelers, because they do seem to do that every other year, but it's way too early to say that based on one game.

Here are my thoughts
1) It was the first game , things happen
2) They [s]think[/s] thought they owned the Ravens
3) The Ravens changed so much on offense and they had no game film on it.
4) The Ravens wanted this a lot more than they did and it showed.

I think this is about as bad as they will look all year, still expect the ravens to win in Pitt in November but not dominating like this past Sunday

The same thing that the media said our weaknesses were/are, is the same problems the Steelers are facing, just those problems are now coming to light because media can't use the excuse that the Steelers were playing in the Super Bowl against Aaron Rodgers or against Tom Brady/Peyton Manning in a regular game. Their problems?? O-Line, aging D which means slower players there(2nd oldest D in the league, pretty dang bad), and horrid secondary outside of Polamalu (who looked aged himself in this particular game). If Polamalu is lost for anytime, or is truly slowing down, then they're in a world of hurt, because it doesn't matter how much pressure you're getting on a Qb as long as they have a reciever open as soon as they snap the ball.

Everybody is on the bandwagon. Charles Davis was on NFLNetwork talking about how everybody was underrating Joe Flacco, while not a month earlier. He, Jamie Dukes and Warren Sapp couldnt shut up about how old our D was and how inexperienced our Offense was. And now, everybody loves Baltimore. It makes me giggle.

I don't think the Steelers' age necessarily makes them less competent; the fact that (and Billick did say it this way) they played like they were old made the difference. In typical arrogance, they thought they could dance on in and dominate us. Maybe by the time they became attuned to the fact that they were playing a much different and improved team it was too late for them to have any control over the game aside from taking cheap shots.

I just hope the Ravens can keep playing at this level and with this intensity.

Nothing is wrong with them...... besides running into a buzzsaw. I'm sure they'll recover.

It's true. I'm a everything Ravens guy and even I have to admit that the Steelers didn't play the absolute worst game ever. It could have been worse. They did have a few good strides. I was trying to brag infront of the only Steelers fan in the school, and it just didn't work. The game has to be close for it to feel more I don't know....important I guess. Don't get me wrong, this game could go down in the NFL top ten as the best revenge games of all time. But that's not the point. I'm waiting on some jerk to say something like "Ohhh that Flacco can't get it done in Hienz Field!". The next matchup will be so much more important. It might be the game to decide the division. Bottom line, it's just the first game but a huge game no doubt. Who knows!

Ziggy Hood and Camron Hayward will probably be getting some playing time very soon. I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron Smith is realeased before the season is up.

i don´t think that there is a chance to see the steelers as bad as they where against us again this year. we had the best game in the last three years and they had the worst. nothing more to talk into that.
they will be dominant again. i just think that we have the perfect mixture on our team now. fast burners (lee and torrey) the best midrange receiver in the league (Q) and a very good couple of fast sure handed tight ends compared with the best all around HB in the game and a QB who can make ALL the throws.

teams will have problems game planning against us. not just the steelers.

but other teams will have much bigger problems to play against the steelers like we do because we do have the best D in the nfl!!!

Let's see how they do against Seattle. If they look that bad again, then it should be panic time in Pitt.
Guess it could be like the Raiders a couple years ago. During their last Super Bowl run, everyone was calling them a veteran team. The following season when they looked horrible, everyone said they were an old team. Don't think that's what is going on with the Steelers though. Time will tell......

I don't buy into that "old" theory. Those guys had one of the top run stop defense's in league history just 8 months ago. Most of the older Steelers are D-linemen and LB's... the primary run stoppers. I'll give em another game or two to get back into rhythm.

I just wanted to post in the last Steeler centric thread before it gets locked. I have a feeling it's gonna be a long season for them.

Whats wrong with the Steelers...well the biggest problem is they have an abysmal O-line, and its not looking like its going to get better anytime soon. Those young, talented WRs can only do so much if Ben is constantly on the run.

Their Defensive Line also got pushed around...Steelers fans can claim they arent too old, but I find it hard to believe that line wouldnt be better with Hood playing the majority of snaps and maybe even Heyward in a steady rotation.

You really think they're going to cut Aaron Smith??? They kept him off IR all of last year in the hopes they'd have him in the playoffs (9 months ago).

I'm disappointed because I know he is smarter than that. You on the other hand.... lol
