Lee Evans' 1st Game

17 posts in this topic

Is it me or were the Steelers really keying in on him. Also i like how he made Anquan's job much easier this season as oppose to last year along with the TE's. hopefully we get him more involved throughout the season.

Lee Evans had a good game despite not recording a catch. He consistently took coverage with him on deep routes opening up the middle for Pitta, Boldin, Rice, et al. Those back shoulder catches, deep balls, and slants will come in time. They're just not in-sync yet.

Yes indeed, they put their best corner on him and Polamalu was worried about him all night. If Boldin, Rice and Dickson/Pitta weren't so effective I'm sure he woulda got his yards.

We should write a thank you note to the Bills for trading Evans to us. Evans' speed is in doubt to cause worry for the opposing DBs. The guy can turn up his turbo speed easily if he wants too.

We all know his presense makes a huge different, and as the season goes on, his reception and TDs numbers will stack up immensely.

I agree. It's also nice that he's just really happy to be on a competitive team. I don't see him as the type of guy to complain about not getting enough targets. He seems like he really just wants to be on a winning team, even if that means he's just pulling the secondary away from Q and TEx2 (my new shorthand for the deadly Dickson/Pitta combo).

His opportunities will come, as The TEs and Q have more success and with success in the running game, the attention he got sunday will drop off...

For a second I thought this thread was gonna be complaining about how he didn't have a catch in his first game, and I was gonna descend on it with righteous fury.

But yeah, Lee Evans drew coverage a lot in the first game of the season and it really opened up the field for the rest of the guys. It really threw into relief what we have been missing for so long on the offense--a deep threat.

Lee Evans had some chemistry problem with Flacco. There was a couple times there was a timing problem with both of them. But let's be realistic, it is going to take some time to have timing with Flacco. But Evans will have good games. This is not the last we will see of him

Lee Evans not recording a catch proved to me that he is doing what we brought him here to do. Evans is here to stretch the field, and pull the safeties back. Boldin had a great day, and a lot of that success can be attributed to Evans doing his job.

He did exactly what we brought him in for. He made everything easier because he already showed in the preseason that he can still beat man to man coverage and just flat out outrun people on a 9 route. The Steelers didn't want to chance it and some teams will play it that way but there are going to be teams that will go the opposite way with it and try to cover him without safety help to stop the run and everything underneath. That's when he is going to have the big games. Joe is going to wear single coverage out with Lee Evans. But we have to get the first brave DC and aggressive CB to see it in action. It will happen though, just be patient

Lee did his job by drawing double teams away from Boldin and the TEs who were able to do work underneath. no doubt Lee's big game through the air is coming for him in upcoming games!

Heh, on numerous replays during the game, you could see Lee just taking coverage around with him all over the field. He may not have recorded catches and Steeler fans may think Ike had him 'blanketed', but that was obviously what the Ravens were trying to do - use Evans to drag extra coverage around so Dickson, Pitta, Boldin and Rice would have field days underneath all day long. It worked, to a T.

I said in a post a couple weeks ago, (not being an I told you so..not who i am and we're all on the same team here), taht evans wouldnt need to put up numbers to have an impact. It worked out just like that. Like has been said earlier in this thread, he drew coverage, which opened up the run game, the TEs, and kept the double coverage off Boldin. Whether or not he is scoring, his mere presence is making it harder for a defense to cover everything, and I'm loving it :)

Not worried at all that he didn't have any catches. The offense operated smoothly as ever with him just being on the field. When defenses try to take something else away he'll get more opportunities.

On both, Dicksons TD and Rices receiving TD, it was clear where the focus was on D. They were covering Evans in the middle with 2 and 3. Good job, Lee!
