Im sorry im not trying to be rude, but why is everyone keeping this topic alive. Do you understand how disrespectful Stealer fans are on their own forums.I joined to talk about a game and got banned for no reason and all they do is talk crap, just go check their forums. Maybe 5 people on that forum will give you respect , maybe its these guys but for the most part they have no respect what so ever

that is a great statement for your steelers to remember.

The statement holds true for both teams. When a game is as lopsided as this one was.....the Steelers are not as bad as they looked.....nor are ravens as good. Like I said, It's week 1

I hear ya and after reading some of these posts, i think these are the some of the people that are disrespectful. You can see they are still cocky , Id be angry after a loss like that. As bad as we have played against the stealers in the pass, we never got whopped like that, maybe the last game in the second half last yr but never a full game. I like where the RAVENS are headed and am hoping we keep it up. Ok Now im done posting on this topic. Next

And that is how topics stay alive forever, haha. So now I need to respond to your response.

Now when I said needed this, I don't mean the Steelers didn't need it in the standings. It's the proverbial hump in the road for the Ravens, you've played the Steelers so close in all the loses over the years, this was a big statement and was not just a win in the standings but also mentally for the Ravens.

Even a large majority of your fanbase admitted this game was bigger than just a win/loss and was to get the monkey off your back about Big Ben, and all the bull.

I don't know how many times I've said that this wasn't me making an excuse for the Steelers lose because, "They didn't need it as much". I definitely didn't relay those thoughts.

Seriously, did you even read the posts from the Steeler fans on here? Because if you actually did, you'd see that most of them were complimentary of the Ravens. Please stop playing the martyr card because there is nothing to complain about based on what we've said.

And I'm pretty sure topics aren't closed based on your suggestions, well at least I hope they're not, ha!

Just wanted to point out that Suggs never said the Steelers were "lucky" in that Jim Rome interview, PFT and everyone else jumped on it and changed "fortunate" to "lucky." In my opinion there is a difference in those definitions. When you hear an athlete say "I was fortunate God blessed me, etc" its clearly a different definition to me if said athlete says "I'm lucky God blessed me, etc" Maybe its just semantics but it definitely seemed like Suggs went out of his way to avoid the L word there, but surprise, the media's gotta get their site hits, etc somehow.

Thanks, hopefully I fall into the better of the two categories. Unfortunately, I'm way too righteous and feel the need to get what I'm saying across to every single person which I should know is impossible especially on an internet forum!

You guys really don't think you needed it more than the Steelers? I don't know why you guys consider that an insult. Even on your own forum prior to the regular season, your boards were filled with how to build a team to beat the Steelers. And how many of your own forum members said how sick they'd be if the Steelers ended their season last year and then gave them their first lose this year.

The average person builds an opinion based off the masses and no offense, this offseason a high percentage of your topics referred back to beating the Steelers, etc... Now that isn't my opinion, that's fact, go look through older posts even from a month back.

So if you don't really feel this was bigger as a win for the Ravens then to each their own, we agree to disagree but if your fanbase wanted it this bad, don't you think the players kind of felt the same also?
^^^ what does that say?
What are you even talking about? Reading comprehension is key to life.

In what world did I say this game wasn't important to the Steelers? I'm not making excuses for the Steelers for not showing up because "It wasn't as important for them". You're right, they got "blasted, crushed, smoked" blah blah. You point out the obvious like it is relevant to anything I was talking about just because you like how it sounds being typed.

And P.S, you are completely not right, incorrect, erroneous, wide of the mark and flat out wrong when saying that everyone picked the Steelers to win in the media.

I apologize to the rest of the civil posters but responses like this that are intended to force confrontation when that wasn't my intention with the original post.
look at the above posts of yours. now...what was that about reading comprehension? smh!

P.S. i spoke of the NFL Gameday show with Jim Brown, Mike Ditka, Bill Cowher, Boomer Esiason and Shannon Sharpe. ALL of them picked the steelers to win.

You know how it is with the media, they use synonyms to the fullest. If a player says their team is solid, they misconstrue that and say he meant that the other teams in the division suck and their team is the greatest.

Hype is the medias favorite friend. What makes people watch the weather channel, if they say it's only 3 inches of snow coming, they get no ratings, but if they say there is a Noreaster and 30 inches will be dropped on a city, then you have ratings higher than American Idol.

No offense kind sir, but what you underlined and made bold on my quotes did not contradict each other if that is what you were trying to show.. Do you really think they did?

I'm not arguing the point that a win is a win and counts in the overall standings.

Let me give you an example on my end. What if the Steelers were playing the Patriots and Tom Brady in week 1 and won. It would be foolish for me not to admit that the game had extra meaning than just 1 win. Since Brady has had our number over the years, it would feel fantastic to beat Brady the way you guys beat us. To every story there is a side story. The story was the win, the side story is it was the Steelers.

It will all be forgotten after week 9.
You better worry about Weeks 2-8 b/c y'all have issues with the number 1 priority for any team, your O-line. Teams will be able to drop 7 back and rush 4 for most of the game getting pressure on Big Ben and they will give Big Ben the comeback routes which is not a easy route to throw ( Flacco specializes in throwing that route though ) taking away the big play from Wallace and Co. Mendenhall will obviously be the key for you guys. Talking about all will be forgotten after Week 9, hell, Week 9 significance might don't be that strong ( rather you 0-10 or 10-0, the games will always be important so don't get me twisted ) if you come into that game with a losing record which is very possible. Y'all got dominated man and that speaks volumes right there, y'all got issues.

Just wanted to drop my 2 cents on the "who needed it more debate". Obviously a win in this game is huge for both teams, its week1, divisional game against a team that is not only a huge rival but also a legit SB contender. I do think it means a little bit more to the Ravens, but only because it was on our home field and you always want to win at home. Other than that it means the same to both teams, although you could argue it means a lot more to Ravens fans.

Can't we all just get along? The Ravens came out and were ready to make the Steelers stop pushing them around. They socked em in the mouth. End of story. We'll just have to wait and see how the Steelers retaliate, if at all.

I appreciate Pitts200's class and as 1/28/01 pointed out he is not trolling. It is nice to find Steeler fans who can be (mostly) objective about football because they seem to be few and far between. There are probably quite a few fans like him, my father is one too who has been a Steeler fan since the late '60s (don't ask how he fathered a Raven fan, especially since my younger brother followed his lead, haha) but the problem is the ones we see all the time, usually because they are ensuring everyone sees them, are so annoying, uninformed, and arrogant its disgusting. There are obviously people like that in every fan base but its like some virus that keeps spreading in our eyes. Maybe those tools will sell their bandwagons for the next cool one and we'll all be better off. I don't think there's any question the informed people here have a lot of respect for Pittsburgh's FO, coaching staff, and MOST of their players, just the same as I know the informed Steeler fans acknowledge our team the same. But jeez those fans are the worst and they make the good ones look bad by association.

All that said, I agree that this game was a little more important psychologically for the Ravens despite the fact that you will never hear anyone in the organization admit it. With that, you really can't discount that this was an all important divisional win that always is a factor for post season berths between our two teams. It could obviously happen this way for Baltimore as well, but if BAL-PIT split the series for example and PIT is upset in one of their Cincy or Cleveland matchups, this win for Baltimore could have major ramifications towards the division title. A lot of speculation here I know, but for any Pittsburgh fan to act like this game didn't matter at all in the long run is an oversight on their part.

Any Ravens fan who says otherwise is in denial. We're all pretty ticked at our shortcomings the last few years when playing PIT.

Thanks sir, I've posted here since the end of our '07 debacle of a season so I know how to be civil and objective despite that season giving me no reason to be that way, haha. For the record, you, gabefergy, EdReed_20, Franny and a few others often echo exactly what I'm thinking, we must have the best reasoning of all the people here, haha! Just kidding peeps..

Ya, I think the mods can shut this down too, we've learned all we could from it:

1.) Ravens got lucky this week

2.) Steelers should still be #1 in the power rankings.

3.) Flacco can only beat Ben when celebrating 9/11

4.) Ben getting married neutered him and took away his "swagger" and the ring on his left hand threw off his throwing balance.

5.) 1 out of every 2 Raven fans enjoy fudgsicles after a win.

6.) Ed Reed is so use to intercepting passes that he was caught on video running through the parking lot pre-game picking off passes from unsusptecting Steeler fans and giving the footballs to Raven kids in attendance.
