1. Ryan v. Flacco debate heats up.
In 2008, the Falcons made quarterback Matt Ryan the third overall pick in the draft. The Ravens held the eighth pick. They traded down with the Jaguars (who took defensive end Derrick Harvey, a bust), and then the Ravens moved back to the 18th spot to get quarterback Joe Flacco.
In the three-plus-one-game seasons since then, Ryan has been regarded as the better player. But the facts suggest otherwise.

Statistically, Matty Ice and Joe Cool have generated virtually identical performances. In his regular-season career, Ryan has thrown 1,503 passes, completing 916 for 10,380 yards, 66 touchdowns, and 35 picks.

Ryan’s career passer rating? 86.6.

Flacco, in turn, has thrown 1,445 passes, with 895 completions for 10,430 yards. Flacco has thrown 63 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions.

Flacco’s passer rating? 88.5.

In the postseason, Flacco has operated at an even higher level. He has won four playoff games, all on the road. Ryan, in contrast, is 0-2.

And so, when Ryan hosts Mike Vick and the Eagles next week, in Vick’s return to Atlanta as the starting quarterback, Ryan desperately needs a win in order to maintain his image as a top-shelf quarterback. Though he may not lose that standing over only one game, Flacco has caught up Ryan — and Flacco could soon pass Ryan by.

They said something like "no one has won more" which is true. He's also got the most wins by a QB if that chart they showed was accurate.

Last year, Matt Ryan had an outstanding O-Line, Flacco had backups starting there (Chester) and people who moved out of their natural positions/positions they were much better at (Yanda/Oher). Flacco did great considering that fact, and the greatness is now showing even more now that he has a line that compares in a majority of ways to the 09 line did. Ryan has also always had the advantage with the recievers as well. White is a top reciever in the NFL, and Gonzo was consistently good and playing in games. Heap was good, but was always hurt in some way, even when he was playing he was nicked up and slowed down. Flacco now has a very good, if not great, group of recievers to throw it to. I'm excited about how good this offense will be this year once all the players grow chemistry with each other and all. If the Steelers think that first game was a fluke, they'll get beaten even worse next game as we will have the all important chemistry factor between the players by that time.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....... this may just be the best Ravens team we've witnessed thus far. Sure, our D isn't 2000 level but they are 2006 level..... and our offense is the best we've ever had. That equals greatness and beast mode.

It seems Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco will be compared to one another for their entire careers. Thus far Matt Ryan has been praised left and right, while Flacco has received nothing but....flack. Both entering their 4th years these 2 will be expected to "put their respective teams on their backs". HOWEVER, Joe flacco orchestrated an almost unbelievable whooping of a division rival, a perennial superbowl contender, and I want to say Rival again simply because this isn't just ANY divisional rival, its one of the greatest in all of sports. On the other hand Ryan lost to the bears.....a good team....not a great team. He made a couple of incredibly costly mistakes, held onto the ball too long, put the ball on the turf for some unknown reason, threw some iffy balls, and just over all didn't look nice. I know its only game 1, but it certainly puts some ammunition in the pockets of Flacco defenders, and leaves a sour taste in the mouth of Ryan Supporters.

Critics are coming around to what we as fans knew all along. They are just now starting to eat crow pie.

http://www.sbnation....teelers-bengals

The Ravens punch the Steelers in the mouth. Did anyone see this coming? 35-7? I certainly didn't as I wrote earlier this week: "As long as that Steelers defense is there, they're competing for a Super Bowl." You'll have to go back to November 2007 since we've seen a game between these two teams that wasn't within 10 points. The Steelers had won six of the last eight games and this one looked primed for another 13-10 finish. Baltimore's defense is elite but at some point we need to start recognizing that QB Joe Flacco is really good and perhaps the best in that 2008 draft class, even better than QB Matt Ryan.

Some people are starting to open their eyes, others will stay blind. Flacco has outplayed Ryan their entire careers, this is nothing new. Nowadays it takes a Superbowl victory to get universal respect.
Anybody know flaccos stats over the last 15 regular season games?
Did some research. Hopefully this is readable, and this includes sack, rush, and fumble stats, as well as QB rating at the end:

key:
cmp / att, yds, td, int, sack, -sack yds, rush att, rush yds, rush td, fumble, fumble lost, rate

2010:
306 / 489, 3622, 25, 10, 40, 294, 43, 84, 1, 9, 4, 93.6

2010 weeks 1&2:
37 / 77, 402, 1, 5, 3, 19, 7, 11, 0, 1, 1, 41.2

(2010) - (2010 weeks 1&2) = 2010, weeks 3-16:
269 / 412, 3220, 24, 5, 37, 275, 36, 73, 1, 8, 3, 103.4

2011 week 1:
17 / 29, 224, 3, 0, 1, 9, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 117.6

(2010 weeks 3-16) + (2011 week 1) = Last 15 Regular Season Games:
286 / 441, 3444, 27, 5, 38, 284, 36, 73, 1, 8, 3, 104.4

You didn't ask to see it, but I figured let's take a look at his entire body of work since that unfortunate performance in Week 2 against the Bengals last season... So here is everything from 2010 Week 3 all the way up to and including 2011 Week 1, including last years playoffs:

2010 playoffs:
41 / 64, 390, 3, 1, 9, 51, 9, 25, 0, 3, 2, 90.0

(2010 weeks 3-16) + (2010 playoffs) + (2011 week 1) = Last 17 Games / All Games Since 2010 Week 3:
327 / 505, 3834, 30, 6, 47, 335, 45, 98, 1, 11, 5, 102.5

Joe Flacco showed he's capable of bringing the Lombardi to Baltimore yesterday by getting over the Steeler hump. I think Ryan has yet to display proof quite like that. Flacco > Ryan.

Tell the critics and pundits to take their "New found love" for my QB and stick straight up their tales! Flacco has done nothing but win since he got here, yet everyone was head over heels for Fraudy Ice. Stick with your Fraudy Ice and Josh Freeman while watching Joe Flacco ascend to Greatness!

Flacco vs. Ryan? lol, never was a debate. Best QB was in Baltimore the whole freakin' time as I've said in many, many post.

The playoff record says it all Flacco wins on the road I'm pretty sure the falcons got Ryan a home playoff game last year and he still lost so how did he ear the title "Matty Ice"

Eh. Another Flacco and Ryan debate. Sounds like we the fans have a chip on shoulder more than anything else. Flacco and Ryan are both good players. No need to figure out who is better because who really cares.

I dont think it's about the actual players as it is the hypocrisy and bias involved. You know how we love the "Us against the world" mentality

I'm not exactly sure we can say either one is better than the other. They're both pretty close to each other as far as talent and production. The interesting way to look at this is that the reason there even is so much debate as to who is better, is because they are so close.

It's not about figuring out whose better, its about trying to get Joe the respect he deserves. Ryan and Flacco are the best young quarterbacks in the league, and Ryan is the only one who gets any credit. Do I think Flacco is a bit better then Ryan? Yeah, I do, but its not them putting Ryan ahead of Flacco that makes me mad. It's when they put him 3 or 4 or 5 spots ahead of Flacco, or call Ryan "elite" while talking about how maybe Flacco will be more then a game manager if he continue to progress. They should be placed right next to each other, not a spot apart. That's what makes me mad.

Agreed. As long as flacco wins who cares who is perceived better

There is only 2 defenses that rivals the steeler's and that is the jet's and the pack, and I dont think Matt Ryan has ever done anything like this. That being said I think Joe is great and played one of the greatest games I have seen by somebody who hasnt been a SB MVP, but it was one game. If he plays games like that consistently then there is no flacco v.s. ryan debate it isn't even close.

I would take Flacco, I like his skill set. You can learn to read defenses faster, you can't learn to have a rocket arm and be unaffected by bad weather. Both are great QBs, I just see Flacco's ceiling as significantly higher.
