Mike Florio Standing Up For Flacco

21 posts in this topic

During the SNF postgame, Bob Costas, Tony Dungy, and Mike Florio were discussing the Ravens/Steelers game. Costas then posed this question to Florio:

Costas: Good game Mike, for Joe Flacco. Now, Flacco and Matt Ryan are connected through the 2008 draft. The general consensus is that while they're both good, that Ryan is the better young quarterback, or has been to this point. But you disagree, right?

Florio: Yeah, absolutely. All you have to do is look at the statistical performance of both quarterbacks through their first three seasons plus one game, and they're almost identical; and Ryan has arguably had better weapons on offense around him than Joe Flacco (flash screen showing near identical stats, for the skeptical viewers at home); and in the statistic that matters the most - post-season success - Joe Flacco has four wins, all on the road, Matt Ryan is 0 and 2 all-time in the playoffs, and Matt Ryan gets his ultimate test next Sunday night when Mike Vick and the Eagles come to Atlanta...If Matt Ryan can't win that game, I think the national perception of Matt Ryan is going to change dramatically.

---

Florio has always defended Flacco in the past, so this was not surprising to me, but I was surprised to hear him say it on national TV.

I have no issue with Ryan, by the way, I actually like him quite a bit. But I'm glad there are media voices out there that are arguing against the notion that Flacco is in a lower-tier.

I've thought Mike Florio was a dope ever since he picked the Steelers to beat the Redskins in the super bowl prior to the 2009 season haha but he just earned my respect back.

He's a fantasy expert and he's picked Flacco as a sleeper numerous times. He obviously pays attention to the stats and yes, Flacco does more with less. After today the stats should be even farther in his favor.

Just can't admit when you're wrong huh?

Don't we have like 3 Ryan vs Flacco threads circulating right now?

As far as I am concerned. I know Joe is a good QB and he is exactly what we need. That's all that matters. As far as everbody else's opinions, they are entitled to them. I don't need to justify my thoughts by having other validate it.

But on a side note. I am pleased to see ratedr come with some positive notes. I guess that deserves a separate thread.

Now i want to hear from Warren Sapp and the other NFL Network experts.
I'd rather hear it from some of the fans around these parts who have done nothing but trash Joe all offseason long and throughout the preseason.

Rodney Harrison's head on a stick anyone?

Any time someone like the Steelers does something, it means something, but when we make a statement, it means nothing. Good luck with that.

What a moron. They will be fine, but we can't feel good about ourselves, and we will get our butt kicked. LMAO at these clowns. I seriously wonder how these guys make a living "analyzing" on TV.

Don't call me a hater or stupid. I don't know who you are or "remember" anything you've said.
I didn't call you stupid. You're just acting like it. Now you don't remember. That's funny, at least some Flacco haters around here have finally given him respect. Nothing irks me more than having our own so called fans saying he'll never be more than a game manager. At least be a man and say when you were wrong. I can go back to the Matt Ryan thread where our conversation was in, but I don't want to put you on blast. I just hope this game opened your eyes.

We all knew what would happen if we actually protected Flacco for a change. The results against one of the most fearsome D's in the league speaks for itself.

We keep protecting him, and we will be talking about him like we do Rivers and Brees by the end of the year. Or at least I will.

Flacco has arrived.
