Steelers Excuse Thread

121 posts in this topic

So I see what the media has done, instead of looking like complete fools and trying to come up with excuses on why Pittsburgh loss, they are just avoiding this game completely. Man I was looking forward to all the excuses and seeing them in this thread.

A number of Steeler fans are complaining about the 2-pt conversion, the pass attempt (Boldins OPI) towards the end of the game, and the fact that we didn't take our starters out...

But weren't the Steelers the ones starting fights and had Roethlisberger racking up garbage stats in the last drive of the game?

They claimed it was classless... Some Steeler fans came to the Ravens defense, though, credit to them...

You play the game to win. You make sure your opponent is down. The game isn't over until the clock reads 0:00. The other team has a defense. If the other team doesn't want to be scored on, then their defense has to stop you. (Bill Belichick's modus operandi)

Preaching to the choir. If the opposing teams' fanbase turns into a bunch of Todd Haleys every week, I'll be very happy.

When it comes to professional sports there is no such thing as running up the score. Every team has an even playing field to win. If they don't like it, then stop it. We have the right to draw blood, to help our teams motivation.

The one Steeler guy i ran into afterwards could only say to me "We gave you that one" Other than that there were no blips on the Steeler radar in my neck of the woods.

Fetal position in the shower. We hit them so hard, that even the fans feel dirty and ashamed.

Don't worry, he will be back come time for the next meeting. Some Steelers fans showed a piece of knowledge when they said "bench Ben!" because Charlie took his job over pretty easily when he was gone. It think it's funny that the QB gets thrown under the bus. Ben did play horrible, that's a fact. How about the coach....am I the only one that mad bro should have taken the hit?

Some Steelers fan on the NFL site attributes our win to the weather having been warm

The 2 pointer I thought was brilliant. But throwing inside the 20 on first down with a 25 point lead and only 3:53 remaining in the game was an attempt to run up the score. You run the clock out in that situation. But I will say, I think that was Cam, not Harbaugh. One of many things the Steelers will have in the back of their minds in November.

I don't think the Ravens needed to take out their starters though.

So one pass attempt means we were trying to run up the score? If we were you'd figure we would have passed again after that one failed.

"Failed" - aka bogus call on Boldin (yes, he pushed off, but should have been offsetting at worst case due to CB (Ike maybe) being draped all over him after 5 yards)

I agree, and I will say that I actually liked the call. Not to demean the steeler's, but a statement needed to be made and had we scored that next game who knows maybe one person on that D would sulk instead of rise to the occasion, but who knows that might be the one we need for a big play in a tight game.

And also we needed it to prove to the player's that yeah we can win but if we play well we can dominate any team in the league, even the dreaded steeler's.

I would have wanted to pad the lead too after the second half of that playoff game..no lead is big enough against the Steelers.

We aren't playing to preserve the Steelers feelings. We were playing to give ourselves more of an emotional high. There are a lot of teams that show no mercy, like the Pats. I'm all for pouring it on, because its going to give our young players more confidence.

And its a professional game! A business!! "Running up the score" complaints, a la Todd Haley, are pathetic! We have been beat mercifully before as well. It is what it is!

I'm tired about hearing about "running up the score", in general, not just in reference to this game. There's no such thing as "running it up". If you don't want the other team to score, you stop them. It doesn't matter how much time is left.

WIth how much Pittsburgh's beaten us, with the comments made by Ryan Clark, with how the media said we couldn't win, it was Baltimore's turn to embarrass Pittsburgh, period. No mercy, no letting up. We needed to make a statement, and we made that statement.

Clark said the Ravens-Steelers rivalry still wasn't a rivalry because it was so lopsided in the Ravens favor...

I thought Steelers safety Ryan Clark summed it up best, "They played this game the way they talked about it. They talked about how important it was to them. They talked about being tired of what's been going on, and they came out and played thay way but we didn't. They whipped our butts. It's not a rivalry now either. When you're that far away from it, it's not a rivalry. They're just the better team right now."
He keeps using that word, but I don't think he knows what it means.

Who cares if we were passing? You guys didn't stop passing even though the game was in hand, and a couple of years ago Big Ben had 5 TDs or something like that, and I don't recall you trying to not run it up on us. If your team needs that for motivation (which you don't) then by all means...

It's funny because everybody else in the world thinks it is. So you might be right. Maybe he's getting it confused with Chivalry.

What if the Ravens did take their starters out in a normally close game? I think that would be the ultimate pride buster.

Eh. No different than you guys going into 2 min offense with no chance to win trying to put up garbage time yards and stats with seconds left. Besides, I had the same thought about how many times you guys have come back to beat us. No points are too many points.

I thought we should have run it too, but no one is ever going to say a word when a team who is getting dominated keeps trying. So, no you're wrong. It's much different.
