MERGED: Jimmy Smith Injury & Updates

112 posts in this topic

According to 1winningdrive, webb was ibformed last minute that he would start. Which kinda scares me because it seems like the staff doesent want smith to start anyway. On top of the injury, we might not see much action from in for a while. Makes me kinda mad because I know jimmy is much better in coverage than webb. Webb would be perfect in the nickel

Cary missed on that touchdown, but I think we were in zone and that wasn't his zone to be in. He was our best corner today though, and Williams played quite well today.

they were definitely playing soft man, and they actually doubled hines, and miller in the middle, Cary just got caught looking in the backfield. Just a simple mistake that will be fixed in the future. You cant do that with Ben cause he often extends plays.

I think Cary should get a pass on this play because it's his first start and that was a big Ben scramble drill ( a play he makes or should I say creates regularly )
With so much time from protection on 3 man rush could help but lose coverage.

I don't think so because Cary and Carr were listed as the 2 starting corners for us. I thought Webb played great today though, keep in mind Wallace is a top tier receiver and Webb played him very well.

They were probably playing it safe with Jimmy. We didn't really need him by the time x-ray results came back.
Lardarius looked good, very physical. I'm hoping it's 1. Smith 2. Williams 3. Webb 4. Foxworth/Carr
Nah we need to keep Cary Williams as our #1, he's great.

he's a rookie so if other guys can be put in starting spots good..take more pressure off him and let him come along, he's not mentally where he needs to be, and against the Steelers the coaches probably wanted to make sure no mental lapses happened and guys didnt get past our corners deep...the most important thing now is for Jimmy and Carr to get healthy...cause now our depth is going to be key, Foxworth, Williams, Webb, and now Chykie Brown are going to have to step up and stay healthy

i hear what youre saying. i just know how sick jimmys coerage skills are and trust him more than webb in coverage. webb had 11 tackles today which is fantastic. he would fit perfectly in that nickel spot as he showed in preseason with all those sacks

idk, I know Jimmy will be good once he learns the defense more...the play in preseason where he just let a WR run past him and then tried blaming Ed Reed showed me that he still needs work...not saying he wont be good, he just needs experience, and Im not sure you want him learning the hard way against the Steelers

when he gets healthy i cant wait to see him making plays, work him in slowly unless other guys are playing horrible..its the best way to bring guys along if u can do it that way...Suggs wasnt a starter right out the gate, its not a bad thing

Outside of that one play he was fantastic. Cary made more mistakes. Foxy is flat getting burnt, smith would be the better option regardless of experience

The Ravens secondary was given up the underneath stuff all day (on purpose), Foxworth has one play where I yelled at him...even as well as we played I still yelled at the tv over a dozen times, us fans want perfection...what they did today just doesnt happen to the Steelers..but I was still upset at times because i wanted shutdown defense every snap..its not possible

Cary was great. The touchdown was unpreventable because Ben had too much time to throw. I hope Jimmy recovers quickly.

Both Jimmy and Chris Carr leave game with injuries, this is why we need Foxworth and all the depth at CB we can get...two guys go down and we are 5 deep with quality players at CB

Carr has a thigh injury...whatever that means
No this is why we should have dumped Foxworth early and tried to get another CB. When he came in he stank in coverage. Was nowhere near his man, ever.

Smith and Carr will be fine. We play the Titans next. Let 'em sit a week! Have Ngata and Oher play corner and we'll still be fine.

From Aaron Wilson:

Might be a high-ankle sprain. On crutches now. X-rays show no structural damage.

Hope it's not, would love to have Jimmy back soon.

Jimmy was on special teams because he was not starting. We do need gunners on special teams and most of the time, CB's fill that role.

I think Foxy needs to be given a pass for this game. Remember he is recovering from the acl injury and self admitted he's not 100%. Going against these speedy Steelers WRs was no walk in the park, especially for Foxy.

Let's see if Foxy returns to form the 2nd half of the season. Be patient.

Smith has a HIGH ankle sprain. Sometimes they are worse than a break. He will be out a minimum 4-6 weeks. And the ankle will probably still give problem for most of the season.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I mean obviously there are different levels of high ankle sprains, but hopefully he can come back after our bye week.

I don't understand why we had our first round pick out on special teams! i know that corners mostly fill those gunner spots but they could have put someone else out there. However, i personally don't think that the injury is that serious i think they just didn't see a reason to put him back in when we were already destroying the Steelers.

I'm really excited to see jimmy come back because we played great defense without him and Cary Williams had a great game (except for that one play) when we add jimmy back in to the line up even if the coaches choose not to start him we are just gonna be that much better!!!!!!!!

Common knowledge. The high ankle sprain was reported yesterday, and they are usually pretty bothersome.

Well this blows. I had a high ankle sprain a couple years ago. It was about three weeks before I could even stand up and have my weight distributed evenly on both feet. Another week and a half or so before I could run again.

He has an ankle sprain, whether or not it's common or high has yet to be determined.
