Haloti Ngata

Sorry if theres thread about this....
Whats the hold up?
Im really starting to get concerned about us not giving him a new deal yet.
It has to be his agent wanting more I guess. Im just getting worried because I thought we would have a deal done by now for sure.
I dont want to head into next year w Joe,Ray,Grubbs and Ngata free agents.
Does anyone have any updates on him?

I don't really know what's going on with this. The Ravens have to want to get this deal done to free up cap space just incase they have to pick up a player during the season and to lock up Ngata of course. Part of me is thinking that Ngata's camp may want to take this to free agency with a lot of teams having a ton of money to spend out there still. Teams don't have to spend the minimum until 2013 I believe but that doesn't mean they wouldn't mind signing an elite talent beforehand.

IF this is what the Ngata camp is doing...I'm sure they will give the Ravens the opportunity to match or beat the offers out there for him to stay.

We need to get this deal done! Not just for locking up the best D-Lineman in the league, but to free up some salary space. We need to ensure we have enough cap space in the event that someone goes down during the regular season.

Ngata and his agent have the leverage. He's one of the few Tagged players that hasn't been signed...

He's gonna walk as a UFA, may as well enjoy his last season as a Raven.

Ha...yeah, okay

If that happened, it would be the greatest failure ever by the FO.

We are going to give him a Suggs-like contract.
We'll be very LUCKY to give him a Suggs-like contract.

T-Siz got $61 million for 6 years - $10.2 million/year.

The Panthers just signed Charles Johnson to a 6 year, $76 million contract, and he's not close to Ngata's talent or production.

Chicago signed Julius Peppers to a $84 million contract for 6 years = $14 million/yr.

This may be in the ballpark of what Ngata is asking for... even though Ngata brings more to the table than Peppers does.

Of course, fat Albert signed that 7 year $100 millon deal with the Skins before the '09 season... and promptly showed Dan Snyder that he still can't buy a contender. Haynesworth's deal was 2 years ago, and still upped the salary structure for DLInemen... much to the chagrin of the other owners... especially since Albert turned into a bust.

Ray Lewis & JJ would be too

JJ ain't coming back. Kindle and Kruger can handle that spot without him.

Ngata was a brief hold out coming into the league, his agent likes to play tough... Let's hope Ngata doesn't get bad advice and leave.

Also, when talking about a Suggs like contract... He was given 40+ million guaranteed. That's the real figure that matters, not to value.

It'll get done. The Front Office have made it clear that he was priority number one for the offseason and just because they haven't re-signed him quickly like they would have preferred, doesn't mean they're gonna let him walk.

Plus, what do we need the cap space for right now? Who out there could make a necessary improvement to our team?

Considering that Grubbs, Ngata and Rice are all Free Agents next year, and Joe is entering his contract year next year it makes sense to get at least 2 players under a long term deal. I have to think Ngata and Joe will be next year, and that it's more realistic that we could get Grubbs & Rice under a long term contract before the end of the season, but I also can see us letting Grubbs go just so we can take care of Ngata & Joe and Grubbs signs a big contract somewhere else.

Totally agree, but I'd hate to see Grubbs walk, after seeing Jason Brown leave. You hate to have young talent just walk away with no compensation (except for a compensatory draft pick).

Just concerned that Ngata wants to see his value on the open market. It would have been better to tie him up before the season started. Most FOs don't negotiate after the season starts - and Ngata could get top dollar if he chooses to test his worth.

Flacco's contract doesn't expire until after next season, but I agree - we have to ink him to a long-term deal. We've searched for our franchise QB forever... We really should strenuously try to sign all four, they're the core of our long-term future.

There is now way that we let any of these guys go. These guys are the core of the team right now. I know that it will take a lot of money to get these guys re-signed but it will get done. Guys like JJ, Birk, Foxworth, and Redding will be released or restructured due to plenty of up and coming talent. Ray and Ed may hang it up as well after this season, as much as I'm in denial with that, it may very well happen. Lots of things will change but not these guys!

Come to grasp now that we wont be able to keep all our guys, its just not possible to sign everyone to a big contract, Bisciotti said this deal will get done and I think it will, it just may not be right now

Ya I was just being sarcastic because that's what these other people seem to think that are panicking about us signing him to an extension. Like we couldn't really use the cap space at this point, so there's nothing to worry about because obviously he wants to be a raven for life.

Oh I agree, I don't want to see us let Grubbs walk either, I mean I'd much rather see us get Ngata under contract at some point during this season, so we could use the Franchise Tag on Grubbs next season. Hopefully maybe just like the deals with Troy and AP, maybe a Ngata deal can be announced at some point tonight. I really want to get a Ngata jersey but I don't want to buy it and end up having a jersey of a player who leaves the team because I have 4 jerseys that are useless, Heap, McGahee and Boller, Bart Scott) and both Ngata & Rice are the next jerseys I plan on getting so hopefully we can keep both long term.

The two guys we absolutely have to keep are Ngata and Flacco. Ngata is one of the top 5 best defensive players in the league, and you don't let a franchise QB like Flacco walk. Running back isn't an important position in today's league, and if Rice wants Chris Johnson money we have to let him walk. Honestly, if I had to choose between the remaining two I would sign Grubbs over Ray Rice. As much as I like Rice, I bet we could get a guy that could put up similar stats for a lot cheaper. Offensive Line is far more critical than having a talented running back because no matter how talented that back is he can't do anything if the line can't open the holes, as we saw last season.

Like T3hRaven said just after you, Ngata & Flacco are the two key players to sign - the future cornerstones of the O & D. After that, Yanda (which we did), Oher, and Grubbs are the next essentials.

You're right about Grubbs as the Franchisee, too. With AP's new deal and CJ's added in, the "top 5" RB price just went up. It could be $10 million + ... and I'm not sure we're ready to do that for RR.

Unless he has a monster season...

Ed Reed's contract is up after 2012, like Flacco's - but he'll be 34 by then. He won't break the bank.

Uh... the Woodley deal is a big time contract that got done before next offseason. Oh yea, so is the Timmons deal....Oh and now the Polamalu deal too. Why would anyone expect that from the Ravens...{sarcasm}

werent the steelers doing everything possible to get under the cap? I would figure that would be the reason for getting all those contracts done so quickly..
