Marshall Faulk's Paying Attention

I was actually pretty impressed with mike in preseason. He looked like a starting quality LT. Not elite, but good enough to play.

Preseason. But just from watching preseason I'm about 90% he doesn't have the athleticism to play LT, he's slow getting off the line and doesn't mirror his man well.
I dont know I think he could be elite.

But Oher could start at LT. It's hard to find better Lt's in the 20's-30's.

I dont disagree totally with you man, he is a "servicable" LT, i just worry about him over there I guess, to many false starts cause his competition over there is better than at RT, and he just blows assignments over there for some reason, maybe hes thinking to much.

Oher can play LT I think he has a more attributes that fit a RT though. He mauls guys. I was watching some video where Oher flattened Harrison multiple times. I was one of the Jerry Sandusky Shows.

Awesome analysis from Marshall.....It seems to me we have made very obvious moves to patch up any weak holes of last year, but the media don't really care of what we did to improve the team instead of referring to last year performance. Finally, someone notices our "stealth" upgrades, but who cares what others view of us, as long as we starting winning games and SB of course....

Let's call Marshall Faulk the anti-Eddie George.

Eddie had this to say:
http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/nfl/Y_Sports_NFL/26549421;_ylt=AqRRIcO4KEeahBQY3NAisDk5nYcB#nfl/Y_Sports_NFL/26549421

First he said the Ravens did nothing to address the O-line during the offseason or free-agency. (We drafted a tackle in the 3rd, re-signed Yanda, and signed two vets. One of which is starting at LT)

Then he claimed the Steelers defense was "young and fast". Amazing.

Also said Joe and Evans don't have a chemistry yet. Certainly didn't look that way in the preseason.

He blew the assignment on Orakbo because it wasn't his assignment. It's just he didn't know that the corner was blitzing too and ray rice could only pick up 1 guy. So Oher gave up 1 sack. He was definitely progressing, but he's the best RT in the league.

Michael Irvin just said something similar:

"Well you know, I'm going with the Ravens in this game, and let me tell you why: this is the first time that Joe has had some real speed. You know, they talked last year about the pick ups he had...TJ Houshmanzadeh, he had Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason...THOSE ARE ALL THE SAME GUYS, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! Now you go get a Lee Evans who can knock the TOP off of a defense while an Anquan Boldin comes back and knocks around the intermediate areas. I take Flacco [over Roethlisberger for this game]: something new for the Ravens this year."

(I added the punctuation for effect. These are his exact words. You're welcome. )

Jamie Dukes actually wasn't in his usual Flacco-hater mode (I think all the people on twitter calling him out had gotten to him ), but he said the Steelers will win because the OL needs time to gel, which is fair. But then he basically said it's not a rivalry because the Steelers always win.

And of course after that Lindsey Soto chimed in saying Flacco might not be there mentally, since he's 0-6 vs. Ben.

That is how I feel but who knows, we kow he has the size for it. The only problem is oher will never be a franchise left tackle. He has the potential to be a good one no doubt but he will always get beat by the best in the league.

I would not mind trading up for Kalil who I think is the best tackle since Jake Long and in my opinion is better than Jake, again just an opinion though. That really hurt to say because I hate USC.
I find it hard to believe that you can say "oher will never be an elite LT",after one full year at the position and you're making this assumption?

That's the problem with a lot of fans in general a player has one greast game and its "OMG,he's a future HOF'er",and the next day he has a bad game and it's "OMG,we should cut this bum, he will never be a great NFL PLAYER"

You're judging Oher way,way too early.Oher has been in the league for what?2 years?I'm not saying you will be wrong but it's way too early for you to say that, I doubt you're that much of an NFL guru to already know Oher's future.

Generally I would agree with you about NFL players, however not in this case and for two reasons.

1.) now matter how hard I close my eyes and wish he just does not have the typical sie for an elite left tackle, if you look around the league the majority are 6'6" or taller. Generally the taller you are the longer your arms are therefore can get more space against defender's which is key to a bull rush. he does not have it.period.

2.) With most great LT's you knew in the first year that they would be exactly that. Not to say they were that there first year but you knew they would be. When JO, jake Long, Joe Thomas, Joe Staley, Willie Roaf, Walter Jones, etc... May not have had great rookie year's but you knew they were going to be special and with oher I see that....just not on the left side.

and to my guru status maybe not , however I don know even I surprise myself lol.

That is true but if I had to pick one GM to do it,m it would be ours. In my opinion bar none Ozzie is by far and large the best in the league.

On a side not everybody wants to ride Belichek's jock for finding Tom at 199 overall but outside of that to say he has been unimpressive about sums it up for me.

good post, and i'm with you on that one. everything about him screams he can be an elite RT, but if he was ever gonna be an elite LT, he would have made "progression" on that side, and I havent seen it, and honestly hes REgressed IMO.

I think the big questions going into the Steelers game are:
1) Can we stop the big pass play to Wallace that killed us in the divisional playoffs?
2) Can we stop the run?
3) Can we sack or hurry Rothy enough to disrupt the timing of pass plays?
4) Will our offensive line hold up to the Steelers' rush?
5) Can we establish the running game?
6) Will the receivers get consistently get open and not drop the ball?
7) Will the tight ends establish themselves as legitimate threats?

We have an advantage in the kicking game. The secondary of the Steelers are beatable by Evans. Rice can be the key factor by catching short passes as the check down man. If we run well, and establish the passing game against a great defense like Pittz, then the rest of the teams in the league will take notice.

This is the blessing and Curse over upgrading (As a Falcons fan its the same with us) .. Its no more excuses for Matt Ryan or Flacco... They have their weapons going into their 4th year.... They have to take that next step and produce... By saying that i dont mean jsut win a championship (which is the goal) ... I mean become that QB that can and is carrying your team... If the game is a shoot out because your D is getting beat (like the Packers vs Saints) ... You make sure your offense score points (donst mean u will win... But your team is in the game because of you) .

I agree with Marshall... You guys got more explosive at the explosive needed positions (of last year)

Sidenote: I also like Pitta

I agree with everything you said, with one added aspect. When plays break down and Ben gets out of the pocket (if we cant get him down)... will our DBS plaster the recievers they are covering

Not to be petty, but Wallace didn't "kill us" in the playoffs. He had 3 catches for 20 yards. Antonio Brown caught the 58 yard pass that ended it.

That's what concerns me about tomorrow - they have Wallace + Brown + Sanders... We must get pressure on Ben.

And, their run game didn't do much - 71 yards on 31 carries.

It all comes down to which OLine can protect.
