We may have a SB team but we are going to need to get younger to continue to be competitive. We are only old in a few positions but they are HUGE for us.
I agree with you totally. But honestly if you look at it, our older players, are still playing at a really high level. Reed led the NFL in receptions last year in just 10 games. Ray is still ray, of course hes slower, but hes still key for our defense. Redding is getting up there but hes gonna have a break out year this year. Birk, this will be his last year. Everyone says we are so old, but when those players are still big pieces to what we do, I dont see the problem in that. Like everyone says the steelers defense is one of the oldest in the league, which is true, but guess what, they are top 3 every year.

ahh man I hate time warner haha. and np, naturally he didnt have time to talk about all that, but he did point out the players as upgrades, I just added the explanation to them. again, im glad we have flown under the radar this far, but I have a feeling by week 6-8 that will change if all goes well.

Good to hear an analyst finally sees all the moves we have made and reviews them instead of the verbal diarrhea we typically get with Warren Sapp. I want to hear more from Faulk and less from Sapp. Hopefully we can get the video segment from BR.com. (hint hint BR staff)

good call on that one. AFC playbook comes on tonight on NFL network, will atleast be able to listen to people who actually know what they are talking about

You make good points, and im sure something will surface, or possibly injuries. I just feel like this is the best starting point we've been at, since well... as far back as I can remember.
Agreed but I would have said the same thing a year ago. It just comes down to luck with injuries. Good teams are prepared (like the Packers last year) but you just need to get lucky and not have key players hurt. We had a lot of players hurt last year.

Sapp needs to remember it's not Joe beating Ben......It's the entire team beating their team. Joe didn't drop balls, recievers did, etc....etc...

IT TAKES THE WHOLE TEAM!

very true, hopefully we can make it through a year without key injuries. I feel better about our depth this year tho.. especially oline, and especially CB

National analysts typically only give you general knowledge of any team. For more in-depth accurate information it's best to follow your local media.

I do my own analysis. Local media is biased and of course they are gonna think the team is better than it may be. But your right, they usually know most of what is happening with the team. A "good" national media guy IMO is better, cause if they do enough film work i.e. sharp, faulk, baldinger, they look at every team in depth. Its a good barometer when it comes to how we will stack up with other teams.

Yes I think I wasnt clear. I think overall we are a very young team.

However there are a few cogs on this team that are gigantic and the way we run we expect a lot from those respective positions so it will be key for us to find those this year.

yup, I agree with you, Ray i dont think will be replaced in the draft (with the position we will be drafting), there will prob be a 2 year period where we fill in with a stop gap free agent,

safety I think will either be addressed in the draft, or Zibby will be the stop gap until we find Ed's replacement.

Reddings position I think will eventually be taken by McPhee

Center I think after Birk retires this year, possibly Gurode could take that spot.

LT........im a firm believer that Reid will end up as our future LEFT tackle, ... book it

I think it is imperative that Ray's heir be found in this draft. A.) to learn under him B.) this is a year of very talented linebackers so one may actually fall to us that is not a reach and is ultra talented. Their is only one free agent that might come here that I would want and that is Jon Beason he will be a free Agent next year and might want to get off a losing team to lay with a legend.

Gurode is no spring chicken either so that position needs to be addressed.

As far as LT goes I would love to get Kalil from USC but he is a top 10 guy so barring trades that is not going to happen. I am not sure reid will but if he does that would be outstanding.

Zibby I love as a backup but as a starter not so sure I think e could do better in the draft. I really wanted ahmad black this year but hey I like our 2 fifth rounders anyway.

yea i have been hoping that we would have found our heir to Ray already, and they could be groomed under him, cause IMO, ray has this year and next.. (tops). We thought Gooden would be, but he didnt come to fruition. Zibby im not comfortable with as a starter either, but hes a great backup. Your right about Gurode, but hes younger than Birk. Hopefully we can have a good linebacker fall to us next draft, and Ray will stick around for another year.

Game 1 isn't your best chance to beat Ben, more like game 9. It's going to take awhile for your offense to gel with all the changes. Come week 9, the Ravens should be clicking on all cylinders. I think the game this Sunday belongs to the Steelers for the sole reason of continuity.
I tend to agree to an extent. Lets look at this though. Our offense NEVER clicked last year and we pushed you guys to the wire. I'd take players on the Oline who have been great elsewhere at times, that havent built a cohesion YET V.S guys that WERE NEVER GOOD and never had any chemistry anyhow. If the Ravens win this one, with what we're talking about... the Steelers would really be in trouble on November 6th. Of course, this is all hypothetical ( based on agreements that the Ravens will be better later)

well said, I like the fact we have so many unknowns. On film, they wont have the material they usually have to study and then exploit us. And your absolutely right, if we win week 1 with what we have, in week 9 after several games of cohesiveness, we should be that much more improved.

Gurode can be a stop gap.

Don't forget about arthur jones, that can could turn into a really good 5 technique.

And there is no way Reid can play Left Tackle at any point in the near future. Or at all. He's not fast enough, and doesn't have good feet. For gods sake he barely has feet for right tackle.

That is how I feel but who knows, we kow he has the size for it. The only problem is oher will never be a franchise left tackle. He has the potential to be a good one no doubt but he will always get beat by the best in the league.

I would not mind trading up for Kalil who I think is the best tackle since Jake Long and in my opinion is better than Jake, again just an opinion though. That really hurt to say because I hate USC.

My only slight concern about the O-line is how well can McKinnie do at LT. If he does well then I think we've got a great line. The trouble being that I doubt how well he will play.

Our depth at CB is very good but I am still worried that we'll line up a rookie (no matter how talented) and a guy who has one start in his career against Mike Wallace and Hines Ward who are in their own right one of the best combinations in the league.

im not sure what you've been watching, but Reid has the basis of every tool you need to be a good LT. His feet areant as bad as you say, actually he moves really well for being that big. He bends well, transitions his hips quickly, has long arms, and is a good anchor. He just needs to develop. He similar to gaither in many ways, but a much better work ethic.

I just said clicking on all cylinders but I didn't say if it was going to be a 4 or 12 cylinder engine, gotta watch my words on an opposing teams forum. lol.

Many guys have potential on your team, you guys just have to wait to see what that translates into.

His feet are bad and he struggled at RT all season. He's never played LT in his life.

Just because he's tall and bends well, doesn't mean he can play LT.

I was actually pretty impressed with mike in preseason. He looked like a starting quality LT. Not elite, but good enough to play.

Preseason. But just from watching preseason I'm about 90% he doesn't have the athleticism to play LT, he's slow getting off the line and doesn't mirror his man well.

Oher was horrible this preseason at LT, blew assignments left and right. Reid was the QUICKEST of our Oline off the ball, (hence why he got us 2 first downs cause he was quick enough to recognize and move when there was incroachments), and maybe you should really go back and watch every snap he took, I have, and although there was some mistakes (hes a rookie), he has tools that will only be enhanced. And back to your previous statement about him being big and bending well, you didnt get my point or didnt read it right, he bends well which helps with anchoring and leverage, and his arms are extremely long, (not just his body being long). His feet are nimble for a dude his size. All im doing is making a prediction and I believe he will at the very LEAST... be tested on the left side. I know ozzie.. hes my brotha from another motha. He told me
