Packers v. Saints - NFL Opening Night!

Surprised at how bad Ingram was. Such a thick back, you'd think he'd atleast be good on goalline and 3rd and shorts. He was terrible on those downs. I can think of 2 3rd and shorts he didn't get, as well as the key goalline play at the end. I remember Jamal Lewis went something like 2 years without missing on 3rd and 1, and these guys are supposed to have a couple of pro-bowl guards.

Prisco has been flamed in a big way from Ravens and Jets fans for what he said. At least he sort of reasoned that we don't let Joe throw it enough rather than Joe can't throw it which is the impression he seemed to give out.

However, it doesn't change the fact that he is an idiot.

The running play for the untimed down was inexplicable... they couldn't get a yard on the ground when needed all game! Play action would have been a better choice, but what do I know lol?

I wanted NO to lose so I was glad to see them try something so predictable.

Sadly, it brought back the memory of the Raven o-line in 2009, when they couldn't run for one yard in three tries against Indy's defense. I'm hoping that I'll forget that soon.

FWIW - Pete Prisco (CBS) tweeted, right after the game:

"Teams that can throw like these two will be in the mix. Those that can't will be left behind. Hear that, Jets and Ravens?"
Well it's a quarterback driven league; I can understand why someone would be a little skeptical of run first offenses. Of course, both the Jets and Ravens have proven quite capable of being "in the mix" even when their qb plays bi-polar or is handcuffed.

Wonder if he meant teams that get 35+ thrown up on them will be in the mix all season. Sapp still think the Saints defense is top 5 now? No self respecting top 5 defense gets 42 thrown on them after preparing for GB for an entire month, thats a sick joke.

Great game last night. I did not get the sense watching this game that this would topple the Saints downhill the rest of the way. That usually happens to the team that loses this Thursday Night opener vs. the champs. That said, their defense was taken to school last night. Gut check time.

Everyone in the media is saying what a GREAT game it was last night. It was interesting, to see if either defense could stop ONE drive of the other team. The way the league has rewritten the rules has turned the game into a subtle version of the Arena league - at least that's what they want. They despise running teams and team's that accentuate defense. Someday our NFL is going to turn into a copy of the Pro Bowl, where no one hits each other and it's a track meet, at the expense of the controlled violence that used to fascinate us. The record book will be continually rewritten... and every record will mean nothing.

The Saints offense are still good, but their defense are so horrible. Patrick Robinson was so horrible, reminding me of Washington.....

I know he's a rookie, but it seems to me 1st round pick looks like going to be a bust.

He's not a rookie, drafted last year.

I don't think it's so much that the league hates running teams as the fact that they love their media darling quarterbacks. You don't see them constantly making new rules to protect running backs like they do [s]Tom Brady[/s] quarterbacks and receivers. I do, however, believe that they want to replace defenses with tackling dummies or perhaps just make the entire game a series of quarterback drills.
