Bucky Brooks Gets It

I know we are only a small part of this article on NFL.com, but he is one of the few that I have seen that get what is happening around here. He recognizes the changes we all talk about here, and not just the downer material that everyone else seems to harp on. Pretty good read for being so short.

has good points, and as much as i would like to call our line monstrous, (is a big line}, there not proven as a unit and need some gelling. I definitely believe it'll come in time, but for now it's a question mark. i just hope we play well enough as a team to win week one, i'm extremely confident with our roster and the talent, now lets see how they do on the field sunday.

yes, i read that earlier..its a small majority of 'expert analysts' who actually understand what teams are trying to do...I'm a Ravens fan so I know all about the team and who is coming in and who is looking good...most of these analysts dont know whats going on around here....not until the real games are played and then they watch playback or whatever

I wish the media would just not comment at all on a team they dont know much about, you can tell some media really have no clue..

Yeah, for sure. That is the only part of the article that was a bit of a head-scratcher. He has a little more faith the the status of our o-line as I do, but we all just don't know. I hope he is right though, that's for sure.

You have to keep in mind, though, national media outlets can only comment on what they see on a larger scale. If you want in-depth analysis of a team, you always go to local media and team websites.

There's only so many hours in a day and so many stories to cover for all 32 NFL teams, along with so little airtime to equally devote to all of them. It's like a hamster spinning its wheel in a cage; no matter how hard they try, they can only do so much, given the circumstances.

That's why, despite hating ESPN, I like their general approach in having one person cover each division. While I would prefer for them to have one guy covering each team and then one person overtop of them in each division, that's just asking a bit much in terms of sifting through stories and seeing which ones appeal more on a national scale.

This is what happens when someone takes the time to look at the Ravens instead of the usual "Blah blah the defense is too old". The front office knows what they're doing. Except moving Oher to the left side. That was a bad idea.

Yea he gets it, until he say Ryan or Freeman is better then Flacco, then everyone will call him a foolish, or a know nothing guy.

However, I did like the article when I read it. I agreed alot with what he said, and I think we'll surprise people this year.

Flacco was sacked 40 times last season, which was the 2nd most of any other QB. Yet after week 2 of the regular season, the only QB who played better then him was the MVP Tom Brady.

We're talking about a guy that despite having a roster full of possession WRs, he was still able to average 12 yards per completion. By comparssion the best QB in the NFL at yards per completion last year was Phillip Rivers at 12.8.

So what that looks like to me is, if you get Flacco a better Oline and more explosive WRs, he'll take off.

I think the Ravens have done that this year, so lets watch him take off.

yea but the positive thing about our line is we have all the pieces, its all there, you couldn't say that two weeks ago, and we even have depth now which is a good feeling. i'm sure by our bye week the line will gel, we have some very good run blockers and with leach bulldozing the way for rice i only see us getting better each game.

Its amazing how often I hear the analysts on NFL.com talk about us and dont even realize the most important moves and upgrades we have made.Every one of them talk about our defense being "long in the tooth"... sapp, sanders, Lombardi, etc. Ok ray is old in the tooth, Reed is just over 30, and Redding is getting up there. But past that... we've actually been getting younger.. little by little on the defense and offense. And ontop of that, I think EVERY pickup we've made this off season, has been an upgrade, minus maybe ricky williams for willis. (not an upgrade IMO) .

Pollard is a clear upgrade over Landry
Leach I believe is an upgrade over McClain.. (think he will be good out of the backfield also)... he didnt need to do that w/Texans
Evans upgrade over mason and younger
Dickson is a potential upgrade over heap... hes more athletic and faster, has the same hands, and is becoming a better blocker.
Cary Williams, Jimmy Smith, Chris Carr, Foxworth, Webb = upgrade over last years CB's and we are getting younger

we had a pass rush issue last year.. and what are we doing this year? ....

Kruger =going to be a beast, could see the emergence the end of last year. He consistantly gets pressure and is developing his pass rush repitoire.

JJ is healthy this year... he wasnt all last year

Kindle made it to the field and is showing potential

Mcphee is a moster and similar to Kruger his motor is ridiculous

oh plus a tighter Defensive backfield = QB holding ball longer = more pressure/sacks/fumbles/mistakes
Our offensive line was suspect last year, suspect in preseason (it was basically all 2nd/3rd stringers), what did we do?

Oher moves to RT... will be in the pro bowl, its his natural position, hes meant to be here... and on the cheap compared to LT

Yanda moves to RG... one of the best in the game IMO

Birk is unhealthy, but we bring in talented backup AND mattison turned heads this preseason.

MckInney at LT "could" be an upgrade over Oher... and I believe it will be.
I get annoyed with experts talk about our team like they've been paying attention, when clearly they havent.

I agree with everything you said. except for this highlighted part. I don't know if you noticed or not, but Ricky was creaming pass rushers, while protecting Joe this preseason. That alone imo makes him an upgrade over Willis.

Also, I like Willis so I wanna be careful not to seem like I'm bashing him, but I have no doubts that the combo of Ricky and Allen will be able to outproduce McGahee's 100 carries for 380 yards.

As for the media, those guys are just for entertainment.

They say we are long in the tooth, but no one every backs up that claim with facts that those older guys are becoming a problem for our defense.

What's the point of pointing out age, if Ed Reed lead the NFL in Ints last year with only 10 games?

What's the point of pointing out age, if Ray Lewis is still one of the top LBs in the NFL today?

If they cared enough to actually look at any of our first 3 preseason games, they would have saw that Cory Redding looks like he's in for a breakout year.

If they actually saw how Pagano is using this defense, that 27 sack total wouldn't even come out of their mouths.

But I don't worry, because my the time we reach the 2nd Steelers game, they will be talking about how this defense is back to dominance, and how this is Flacco's year.

I'm with ya 100% on that one. I just hope we don't pay for it up front in week one. If we do, we may find ourselves in a spot where we have to go to *hittsburgh and win one to take the division. I have faith though.
