Big Ben Calls Ravens "one Of The Best"

69 posts in this topic

Quick story about Ben. Obviously everyone knew his off the field issues, but his second year in the league he was at a golf outing run by Arnold Palmer. Along with Ben were some other Steeler greats such as Franco. Well after the round was over this group went to grab a bite to eat at the 19th hole and a group of kids came up to the group and asked for autographs. Well Ben declined saying that he wasn't in the mood and just wanted to eat.

Well sure enough these weren't just any kids, somehow Palmer found out who was also at the outting, he approached the table where Ben was sitting and told him that he is going to sign everything those kids have and that he is not welcomed back to the course.

I'm guessing sometimes a hard lesson will change your outlook.

Good job Arnie.

it seems to me alot of ravens fans think no one acknowledges how good the ravens are.....

well here is someone alot of you despise giving you your props.

"You get a divisional opponent right from the get go. Both teams are in the same boat. It’s the first game for both teams. It’s a physical game. It you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. We consider them one of the best.”

Damage control after the way his other teammates have been popping off at the mouth all off-season. I may always respect the Steelers, but I will never like them.

Dang. Maybe the kids' parents should teach them manners and not interrupt people while they are eating?!

This isn't really a surprise. Ben isn't much of a trash talker.

Its easy to talk nice about your "nemesis" that cant seem to ever beat you. You wont see too many Ravens sharing the same sentiments about them...

not all of them, but Ray Lewis and Ed Reed both are respectful, hell Ray Lewis even mentors Ben...especially when he was going thru his rape allegations last year

Ben is always classy and smart with his words in regards to giving respect where respect is due. Despite how many times hes crushed by Sizzle, or chopped in the face by Ngata, he knows how these 2 teams go at it. Just as we aspire to be them at times cause they are a successful franchise year in and year out, he knows what the Ravens bring to the table... the best rivalry in football. We can dislike the steelers all we want, but that in itself is respect for them being our biggest competition.

I'm pretty sure it was an outing to benefit kids of some sort. So I think tons of kids were around looking for autographs. it wasn't just a random round of golf where kids were approaching him.

I dont think I recall seeing Ben ever talk on the field either. You can clearly see when Suggs or Ray are getting in guys faces talking crap. But I dont really recall Ben doing the same, he's usually actually having fun with Suggs.

He's been tame against us, yeah. I would keep my head down around Ray Lewis and Haloti Ngata, too.

He is afraid that the Squeelers are going to be dominated by the Ravens so he is already thinking up excuses. We had them down for the count three times last year and they wiggled free. Not so this year, Rottenberger knows it and he is giving himself an out for losing the season opener. Maybe Ngata can straighten his nose out from last years break!!!
Dominated? not so much, there was only one season that Ben was dominated and that was 06, when the ravens were on a totally different plane of football that year...i actually rooted for the ravens in the playoffs that year, since pitt wasnt in there to represent the north.
Well one interesting thing is there has been ZERO trash talk about this game at work. I think Steeler fans are optimistic (mainly about receivers) but remember SuperBowl hangover seasons as well. Everybody agrees that this is too important of a game to play week 1.
Thats only when we win the super bowl. The last time we lost the super bowl (back in 95) we won the division the following year
He ain't lying he said we were one of the best... Everyone already knows the Ravens are one of the best teams in the NFL. No news there, Ben is setting up his loss in week 1 already. This way the steelers fans don't take it so bad that they lost to the best.
Rarely will you ever see Ben make excuses for when the steelers lose. He is usually the first one to take blame for the losses, and he never takes credit for wins, he spreads that around to all his players.
Ben knows the truth. He has never had a cake walk with us. He has never had an easy game with us. Never will.

reality is it would not be a rivalry if the steelers sucked, and we hate Ben so much because he is so good.

On the field I hate Ben, off the field he is pretty classy. I saw a TV report where he bought a little league football team a bunch of new uniforms and paid their way to a little league play off championship thingie.

I love these games because they are two awesome teams.
He had a cake walk back in 07.... :P

He is just saying that because he doesn't want his nose to get broken......

All joking aside, he is one of the 2 players on that team that shows class (other being Polamalu).

Come on now, Farrior, Kiesel, Smith just to name a few. And what is the definition of class when it's your opponent?

Our players hate their guys and vice versa but we aren't dumb enough to mouth off saying they aren't a great team. This is the best rivalry in sports because it's 2 identical teams playing each other. Honestly, I think the Ravens are more talented but Pittsburgh is better coached.

Hopefully we learn how to play 60 minutes of football and then guys like Clark, Hampton, Woodley and Harrison will shut their mouths.

It's always interesting to see how much these teams hate each other, yet the how much they respect each other too.

Ben isn't stupid. He saw what happened after Rashard "Al Qaeda" Mendenhall trashed talked the Ravens. I've never really heard him talk trash actually. It wouldn't be too smart for any QB to do that though.....

Ok Even at that I still dont fault Ben. The dude was eating how about just waiting until he is finished if you want the autograph that bad. Just because you are a star you should still be entitled to some semblance of privacy.

If it was an event for children then there were assigned times to get it and even afterward should be no problem but damn leave the man alone while he is eating.

I Know both teams respect one another. And even as fans we respect the steelers and vice versa theres just so much smack talk that its hides it lol, Thats what makes it such a great rivalry if we had the better winning record we would be just as cocky to them as they are to us Ravens fans, But I for one like the underdog status in this rivalry cause it makes our team hungry and always strive to be the best. With that said Sunday is a good enough place to start to shut some steelers up a little if thats possible.

All players with real talent on their team have this response but the ones that aren't talented seem to have a lot of lip! Case in point: Fat Woodley, Ryan 'weak and untalented' Clark, Humpty Dumpty Hampton!

I have nothing but respect for Big Ben. I know what he's capable of. I feel that he's the best clutch QB in the league. He has a talent of being able to extend the play when it looks as if it's going to crumble. Few have such a talent. I know that most of us acknowledge his talent, even if we don't care so much for him.

Forget Matt Ryan, I think a lot of people get on Flacco because he has to play Big Ben twice a season, ask any other QB to do that and they won't look so hot.

Ben has usually said respectful things, no big deal here...
