And that's what makes this rivalry the best in the NFL. Both teams are so good, that every game comes down to the wire. I LOVE it!

He's just talking out of his as..........oh wait........he said something positive about us?

Damn autopilot mode, I was expecting another negative remark to respond to. His remarks are the type of respectful comments I enjoy (from either side).

I know some of the Steelers players as well as possibly as fans know how good the Ravens are and how close in game when rivalry Ravens and Steelers games are. We fans only answer as respect to those respect us.

In this case, 2 lions are going to a cage, and only 1 can exit.......

Ben is always respectful of his opponent, which is one thing I like about him. Steelers are a frustrating team, and Ben fits them perfectly with his ability to frustrate defenses. Just wish he wasn't so darn good, he stands in our way.

Damn it the words taste like vinegar but that was classy Mr. Roethlisberger, thank you (wow those tasted even worse)

I don't despise Big Ben. I actually like him. Big, tough, blue collar QB. He has always given the Ravens their due when he talks with the media. I'm sure it could have something to do with how hard and often Suggs seems to hit him when we play each other lol. One I do despise, Ward, also always gives the Ravens respect. Hairball too.

It is a rivalry. There will be smack. For the most part though, there is a mutual respect between the players and the fans. Sure, I despise the Steelers but I also respect them as a football team.

Ben is smart enough to NOT give any Bulletin Board material, plain and simple. Smart move, I wouldn't want any Ravens players mouthing off either.

Ward did the same thing too saying nothing worse than opening game at the Ravens with a loss. The Steeler vets are smart.

This is what a QB is supposed to do. Let the other guys talk the smack and the QB has to the sensible one. Flacco would do the same as well would the other starting QB's in the NFL. Even the backup QB's understand what they are supposed to say.

I give Roethlisberger credit for saying what he is supposed to say but I am not going to credit him with anything more than that.

Don't take much stock in this.....wouldn't expect an opposing qb to say anything less...the junk talking is for the players that actually get to hit...

do we all forget that Ray Lewis and Big Ben exchanged Text messages in the past, especially when Big Ben was going through hard times? Yes we hate them but i think rule #1 is to respect anybody you hate so much, i mean you have to have a reason to hate them and it's usually because they are better then you in something.

i hate the black and gold more then people to my left and right (no matter who lines up to my left and right) but u still gotta respect at least some of their players

Well having won playoff games each of the last 3 years does in fact make us "one of the best", so he's being truthful as well as diplomatic. But that quickly is forgotten in the wake of disrespectful comments from other players and 99.9% of Steeler fans. But I appreciate the OP's point, and he is one of the 0.1%.

He is afraid that the Squeelers are going to be dominated by the Ravens so he is already thinking up excuses. We had them down for the count three times last year and they wiggled free. Not so this year, Rottenberger knows it and he is giving himself an out for losing the season opener. Maybe Ngata can straighten his nose out from last years break!!!

There are many Steelers and Ravens that are absolutely classy when it comes do discussing their rival and Ben has always been one of the ones to give our team its due from what I've always seen. Even though there are several Steelers I don't like at all, I still respect the heck out of almost their entire organization.

Really, its just the boatloads of absolutely stupid Steeler fans (that's being kind) that always get under my skin at least, dunno about the rest of you. You know the ones I'm talking about, the ones who can only say "6 rings 6 rings!" But probably couldn't tell you the years that they won it all in the '70s.

Come on now, I think you're being a little harsh. If a player doesn't give a team respect then that opposing team is getting overlooked and not getting respect. But then if an opposing player does give a team respect then it is juts a ploy and he doesn't really mean it.

They ONLY have two rings since the establishment of the Ravens in 1996 and we have one. So this is a good year to tie things up. All of that historical bunk is like saying the Deadskins are better then the Ravens because they have won more SB's.

But the Steelers have been to 3 SBs during that time. No one likes to lose them but they have.

it seems to me alot of ravens fans think no one acknowledges how good the ravens are.....

well here is someone alot of you despise giving you your props.

"You get a divisional opponent right from the get go. Both teams are in the same boat. It’s the first game for both teams. It’s a physical game. It you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. We consider them one of the best.”

Ravens generally do get recognition from the players, ala the NFL top 100 and so forth. It's the analysts, sports writers, and commentators that don't give us the credit.

Although, I do like Berman and what he has to say no matter if it is against or with us.

Both teams have a lot of respect for each other because they know the physical beating they will take everytime the two play. There are trash talkers on both teams who like to stir things up but most of the "Hatred" is fan based. I do not like the Steelers and it goes way back to the 70's but it does not mean that i do not respect them...You can't dispute Six Lombardi trophies.

Well one interesting thing is there has been ZERO trash talk about this game at work. I think Steeler fans are optimistic (mainly about receivers) but remember SuperBowl hangover seasons as well. Everybody agrees that this is too important of a game to play week 1.

He ain't lying he said we were one of the best... Everyone already knows the Ravens are one of the best teams in the NFL. No news there, Ben is setting up his loss in week 1 already. This way the steelers fans don't take it so bad that they lost to the best.

1. And there are a lot more Ravens fans not seeking that acknowledgement; we already know it.

2. I don't despise Ben at all. I'll feel warmer and fuzzier about his comments in the post game interview
after the Ravens beat them next week.

Ben knows the truth. He has never had a cake walk with us. He has never had an easy game with us. Never will.

reality is it would not be a rivalry if the steelers sucked, and we hate Ben so much because he is so good.

On the field I hate Ben, off the field he is pretty classy. I saw a TV report where he bought a little league football team a bunch of new uniforms and paid their way to a little league play off championship thingie.

I love these games because they are two awesome teams.
