Is Stover Burnt Out?

53 posts in this topic

I love Matt Stover. But in this league, kickers should be clutch within the 30 or lower. And Matt is. But 40 or beyond is just out of his reach now. Whatever happened to Czech, that guy had a boot and could kick that sucker 50+ yards.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, anyone can have bad games or bad luck. He's hit more then he hasn't and has proven himself to be reliable. I have faith he'll pull out of it.
First off how can any RAVEN'S fan say that he/she does not like M. Stover? The all time leading scoreer Matt Stover. Now if you are trying to tell me that his leg has weakened and he has kicked past his time I can agree to that but to say you do not like Stove is crazy to me.
yeah i dont like stover he cant hit nothing past 40 that limits us and im mostly a fan of our d and a lil bit of offensive players

i wont how many weeks do we have to see that he leaves point on the fieldpast forty yards and we cut two that boot it 50+
you know i question our choices sometimes like the whole qb situation we turn xavier lee to a tight end and then cut him then we end up signing two more. then we cut allen patrick then sign mason and draft ray rice and the use mcclain more we waisted picks and its costin us

We utilize our picks better than any other team. Any commentator debate your remark. This Kicker situation is a mild problem. Our kicker should be used for PATs and Kickoffs. We do need someone who can kick 40+ consistently.

I agree that Matt Stover seems to have lost his edge in the clutch, but I agree with all the guys saying what a great guy he is, our leading all time scorer, and all that...let's not kick the guy to the curb...

Maybe he just needs to practice more...get back his lost technique...or if he has lost it I'm sure he will be the first to admit it as the great man that he is.

Sounds like the offense needs to move the ball better...

Love Matt Stover.

But, when I watch, it seems like almost every field goal he kicks is dangerously close to missing. His one was way off today. Maybe he shouldn't be doing kickoffs anymore. I hope he pulls out of this rut-ish kind of thing, but he is getting old.

lol yeah that's what I was thinking.

But still, he's still reliable. I'll start panicking once he stops hitting them from inside the 35.

I love Matty, but maybe he is feeling 40. I did notice the wind was swirling a bit, but that kick was just ugly bad.

True.. But not even the best offense of ALL TIME made TD's everytime and still kicked the FG's, from 25 yards, to 50-52 yards.
Money matt will retire at the end of the year.

I remember reading this article a while back. It might be a mental thing. I have a feeling that he was used to a certain rhythm under Billick. Now that a special teams guy is a head coach, it might have affected his timing or placement or something. The kicks have the distance but the accuracy is lacking.

Interesting article, maybe its time for Harbaugh & Stover to have another heart-to-heart conversation.
He made just five of his first 10 field-goal tries and needed a heart-to-heart session with Brian Billick to save the day.
Nevertheless I love Stover, but we do also need a guy that can boot 50+ yarders.
well lets not get off the stover wagon this early. its still early and it hasnt cost us games to this point. The kickoffs were supposed to be like that in an attempt to not kick it to cribbs.
Um, we could have taken the Titans game into overtime with that miss...

I think everyone can agree that we all love Stover and always will appreciate everything he has given to this team since its inception. But, really 4 for 7 is not a good statistic at all. I would be a lot more accepting of those misses if they were from 50 yards or more, but they were all 40-49 yard attempts.

And on another note, does Koch ever handle kickoffs, because if he can we should use him in that regard. He can definitely boot those punts. If i'm not mistakened, I think he is leading the AFC in net punt yards.
Adam Vinatieri?? He has a long way to go....
There is only one true placekicker in the Hall of fame: Jan Stenerud, Let's Compare

Jan Stenerud - Points 1699 - FGM 373 - PAT 580
Matt Stover - Points 1831 - FGM 436 - PAT 523
Adam Vinatieri - Points 1401 - FGM 314 - PAT 459

Jan Stenerud will have company in the Hall of Fame - that Man, Matt Stover. Stover also leads a team in career points, and help win a superbowl. The only thing Adam Vinatieri has done is be on great teams that have reached the superbowl and he made his kicks. Some impressive ones nevertheless.
Great numbers dude...It is obvious from both the numbers, and the hearts of true Ravens fans that Matt Stover is a HOF kicker.

Lets just hope he gets out of the funk he seems to be in...I'll bet he will.

I dont know. I like giving Matt the benefit of the doubt but remember he did miss that 46 yarder in OT @ MIA. I havent seen Stover in the same light since then. He's not automatic to me anymore. I am praying he makes them just like I pray other kickers miss.

:werd:

I think it's a crap shoot anymore with Stover. I was watching the game with my buddy when he was getting ready to kick that field goal. I said to him "How far? 45? He'll miss". Sure enough. 4 of 7 isn't acceptable in the NFL. Time to start looking.

not too long ago when it was time for stover to kick a field goal id say "heres 3 more" and not blink, those days are over as mentally i cannot relax when he kicks now, its sad to see a great players career wind down isnt it? but its been an awsome run and maybe weve not seen the best from him yet? we'll need him alot when playoff time rolls around and he'll be there in the clutch - i think -
