Yeah but for most people it takes a while if you don't shave for the beard to grow in, so wouldn't not shaving toward the end of the season work better so that by the time the playoffs are there it's grown out and looks like a real beard.

Damn straight. You just can't start growing a beard whenever, then stumble into the playoffs and deem it a 'playoff' beard. A playoff beard is grown and kept only during the playoff period.

I am very serious about my playoff beards. Because it seems like if I don't follow the law, my team loses.
