Donnie Avery: This Year's Housh

19 posts in this topic

Tell me your thoughts on this.

Rams cut WR Donnie Avery, something that definitely surprised me, but I obviously dont follow the Rams so I wouldnt know if his production is down.
Last year, the Ravens came out of no where adding Housh last year right before the season started after he was surprisingly cut by the Seahawks (but we later kinda saw why).

So do you think bringing in Donnie Avery would be a smart move/financially worth it, considering our youth we want to develop at the position and clear #1 and #2 in Boldin and Evans.

I doubt it. Reed and Doss have been impressing the coaches, and you have to give young guys a shot.

I don't think WR is much of a need either. I do think that Ozzie will take a look at what is available and will make a move or two but nothing too drastic.

WR is not much of a need at this point.

I'd rather target an ILB.

I think if we go after any of the free agents being cut its going to be along the OL, I could be wrong though Ozzie has a better feel for the team and whatever piece he thinks we need he will pick up...expect a move to happen in the next day or two if its going to happen at all..maybe

I don't see anything happening tbh. Maybe a back-up center though.

Donnie Avery's game is speed. His past injuries have hindered that going forward. He'll never be the same guy we remembered. Plus we are deep at WR with youth.

There's also (WR) Yamon Figurs (Tenn), (WR) Eron Riley (Dnv) & WR Kelley Washington (SD) out there...

Or not. ;)

I actually always liked WR Justin Gage, released by Tennesee. He's 6'4, but he's 30 years old. Also, the Pats cut Brandon Tate and the Eagles cut Sinorce Moss.

But, as was mentioned before, we're set at WR...

Nope. I'll pass. Can we just develop the young kids now? I swear, at the beginning of the offseason, everyone complained that we had too many old WRs and had to get younger. Now, we wanna sign more old, stop gap receivers.

There's really nothing in FA that would help us right now. Not an ILB, not a C, not a CB, not a WR. There are really no upgrades available. All of our needs need to be addressed in the draft. We'll do good this year with what we have.

There is a safety out there that I would take if we didn't have Pollard though....

Idk man, if BB cut him...

Belichick is arguably the best GM and HC in football, and the best talent evaluator as well. If he saw fit to cut him, there must've been a reason. I mean, he traded Seymour, why couldn't he trade Merriweather?

Belichick isn't a patient man. He is the best coach in the league and the best personnel guy I know. I was pissed we didn't make him our head coach when Browns moved to Baltimore. Yeah, Merriweather might have caution tape but we are a team that just signed Bryant McKinnie.....

Ed Reed is the perfect guy to take Merriweather on his wing and teach him the ropes.

BUT like I said, we are all set away with Pollard. I was merely implying if our SS was Tom Zbikowski than I would be screaming for some better talent to come in to start at SS.

Hc maybe, talent evaluation no, GM definitely not, too many people get caught up in his hype. he has only done average in the draft imo. He trades and gets a bunch of picks next year sure but you don't win games with empty draft picks. lately he has gotten mayo and mccourty. AS far as TE gronkowski and hernandez are products of tom. and bringing in haynesworth and ochocinco I would not have wanted them if they said they would have played for free. Once Tom leaves he will get exposed.

Really? Since he got there they've had ONE losing season, that was his first year. In 11 years of being a HC, he is 126-50. That is a .713 winning percentage. In those 11 years, he has finished in first 8 times. This is the guy that trades away any veteran player, and gets better production out of a undrafted guy nobody heard of. I'll let you decide if he's as bad as you say he is, but NE isn't just riding on Tom. BB is a friggin genius.

Dont remember saying he has not won a lot of games. If you had done any research there are maybe 6 players after the first round that have contributed to the team in the last DECADE that was drafted by that team. Their first rounders hit about every other year ad then after that outside of asante samuel, matt cassel and ben watson(I guess) after the second they are terrible. They rely heavily on free agency and Tom making a average offense great.

And really releasing veterans yeah ok........ There is a reason New England is called the place where careers go to die. Lets see this season was haynesworthless, and ochocinco. remember troy brown, what about junior seau, or round 2 of ty law. or maybe corey dillon. They are not nearly as good as you say they are they rely heavily on free agency, there is a reason they always have to trade to have a pass rush, because they dont draft well. Just do the research man.

And second eight games a year for at least 7 years was given to them. The bills, dolphins, and jets were all pretty terrible for at least 7 years.
