MERGED: Roster Cuts to get to 53

No real surprises so far. I just wished we had been able to trade Gooden. I heard that we were looking for a backup center in return.

On twitter, Jalen Parmele reminisced about his career as a Raven. Also, Davon Drew announced he is no longer a Raven. Presctott Burgess is reportedly out as well (could make the Practice Squad if he clears waivers). And so is Tavares Gooden; man!!!
I think this will open the dore for Philips and Josh Bynes. I think Bynes could be the next Bart Scott/Jameel McClain/Danell Ellerbe. I think this also means Anthony Allen and Kris Wilson make the roster.

Yeah, this is all being talked about in the pinned thread about trimming the team to 53.

And it's Kris Wilson, not Kyle Wilson, who's the sophomore cornerback for the Jets.

LaQuan Williams just tweeted:
"Got the opportunity to live out my dream. Made the 53 man roster. Phase 1 complete now time to take my game to the next level. #RAVENSNATION".

Looks like he's made it.

Yea big props to the Baltimore Kid.

on a bigger level, it's great to see the Ravens seemingly strike gold on an undrafted WR, for the first time.

Having a guy like Flacco, appears to be helping us turn around our poor WR development over the years.

As Quan said, the first part is over, now it's time for him and the other young WRs to put in work.

Hornfrog1.

I, too, left Phillips off of my 53-man roster.

I left him on. You guys dont realize, that guys like that, aren't even considered as actual Linebacker depth, he is purely a special teams player. We DO keep guys around strictly for special teams... much like Ayenbendejo. Even with the retarded new kickoff rule I still think they want guys that can cover kicks on the team, however they probably need less of them...

Chester Taylor has also been cut.

Cue the "Let's get him back threads" in five, four, three...

We don't need him with Ray Rice, Ricky Williams, and probably Ant, too!

With the new rule, punt returns/coverage became a lot more valuable than kick returns/coverage. I think Phillips is cut because he still hasn't progressed in the areas he needed to progress, namely pass-coverage - he made a few bad reads in that Falcons game, too.

Bynes I have making the PS. He played well but not well enough to make the 53. Ayanbadejo makes the team, in my mind.

Except that McClain and Ellerbe have contributed nowhere near what Bart Scott did here. Not in the same class at all.

The Ravens just cut one of their better young linebackers in Burgess, and the supposed "heir to Ray Lewis's throne" in Tavared Gooden. So I guess it's back to the drawing board to find someone to replace Ray Lewis. Not sure they'll ever get the chance to learn from the greatest though, which is really sad.

"The Cincinnati Bengals tried out former Baltimore Ravens center Ryan Bartholomew..."

The Bengals are interested in signing players - to their 53 man roster - that we won't even put on our Practice Squad?

I hate using twitter as a source; however, I read that the Ravens have cut Gooden (kinda sucks because he had so much athletic potential but just couldn't put it all together, and was made of glass), I also read somewhere that the Ravens cut Prescott Burgess (which will be a loss on special teams unfortunately); however, I've really liked what I've seen from Bynes , he looks like a play maker vs the 3rd and 4th strings, and can probably be a force on a few special teams units for sure. Auburn fans always comment on the energy he added to their BCS championship defence, a defence which had 1st round draft pick Nick Fairley. I say we give him a chance to AT the VERY least make the practice Squad.

Also congrats to Anthony Allen, and Laquan Williams for making the squad! Y'all earned it for sure!

It sure looks like we're making room for him. I think we found the annual UDFA LB. It seems every year we find a UDFA LB that outpferforms other players, makes the team, and then earns playtime. Hopefully, Bynes can earn said playtime, that is if he makes the team, which it looks like he will.

I heard we tried to trade him to San Fran, but the deal fell through.

Since Anthony Allen looked awesome this pre-season, no surprise. We had a boat load of TE. No surprise.

Yeah, they were saying we'd get a center for him or something, but how talented of a center would we get for Gooden? Unless we threw in a draft pick or something. And I don't think any team is desperate enough for an LB, to even consider trading for gooden....the eagles maybe? Haha
