Trade a 4th or 5th round draft pick and Foxworth. done deal. Foxworths cap will cover briggs
Only one problem with that - trading a CB that we consider our 4th/5th best, who's still struggling with a serious injury... for a Pro-Bowl LB...

No one will want Foxworth and his $7 million salary for free, at this point. It's too high a price for an injured player.

ok let put our heads together to get Briggs. Try to trade or cut Foxworth or him and Kruger. I would also like to get Asante Samuel from the Eagles. Your thoughts. I will be back and forth with this post, I'm playing Wii with my son.

Does anyone think we can get Chicago to trade Briggs for someone and a draft pick? we have a week from sunday to get the talent we need to beat the Steelers. We have a lot of talent it's just a few unsure positions with the offense and defense. I really like all the pick ups we done so far. I just feel we are one or two signings away. Please tell me if I'm way off.

Well, I admire your ambition. You shoot for the stars - literally.

The hardest thing about upgrading your roster with major moves, at this point, is the salary cap.

Asante Samuel is a top-tier CB, is available for the right price - and he is scheduled to make $9.5 million. Briggs is scheduled to make $6 million. That's $15.5 million, more than anyone on our roster is making...

We are currently $2 million (plus some change) under the cap. Also, the Eagles have whispered that it will take at least a 2nd round pick to get Samuel.

I think that if you want to upgrade with top-notch talent, you upgrade weaker areas that need it, more than increasing already strong areas. I personally think that LB is an area of strength - outside of Ray, you still have Suggs, Kindle, Kruger (both of whom look great this PS), JJ, Ellerbe & McClain as locks to make the roster. I don't think you need to break the bank to improve that area...

PIttsburgh has excellent LBs, but James Farrior is 36 and James Harrison is 33. Their starting four may be better than ours at the moment, but in 2 years... not so much.

CB - the Ravens are better - with Williams & Smith - than the Steelers' CB-by-Committee system. The Steelers don't mind this weakness, because LeBeau's system is maximum pressure and soft zone coverage - which is perfect for his personnel.

So, I don't think we need to upgrade these areas to pass them. The only place I would look for an upgrade would be if someone is cut that interests Ozzie at OLine. However, you're talking a reserve, not a starter.

Remember, the best teams - like the Ravens, the Steelers & the Colts - build almost exclusively through the draft. It takes patience for fans, but it is the best system. Just ask the Redskins fans... their eternally-active in FA owner still hasn't figured out that you can't buy success in the NFL, you can only grow it.

Too bad Mahaffey is going to be cut, he's had an awesome preseason.

He's probably going to make another team when he's gonna get cut

Thank You for that insight. I want to get the personel now to help Ed and Ray get the second ring. We need to keep pace with the Steelers and the Patriots.

While I can see keeping pace with the Steelers, we will pass them this year. We made the necessary moves to do so.

We are ahead of the Pats though, remember how many playoff games they've won the past 3 years...none. So to keep pace with them we'd have to go backwards...no need for that.

I'm surprised that it was Burgess who was cut and not Phillips/Ayanbadejo as he has been our leading special teams tackler the past couple of seasons.

Ravens waived LB Prescott Burgess.

Burgess was one of the Ravens' top special teamers the past two seasons, making 31 tackles while appearing in 29 games. Still only 27 years old, he should be able to keep his career going.
According to Aaron Wilson, it looks like LaQuan is going to make the team:

Didn't surprise me, had him off my 53 man roster.

Burgess has been good on ST. But just ST play isn't going to cut it with the new rules.

Davon Drew has also been cut according to Aaron Wilson via Twitter.

And apparently the Ravens are also working on trading Tavares Gooden, possibly to the 49ers.

Aaron Wilson tweeting that Davon Drew has been cut, according to agent. Looks like Kris Wilson has made the team.

Wilson also tweeting that Tavares Gooden is on trading block, likely destination is San Fran. Ravens are looking for a backup center in return.

Special teams is going to take a huge hit this year with kick-offs moved up. It isn't surprising to see some guys who can really shine in ST cut. But I figured Burgess would be cut sooner or later.

Haven't heard Gerry Sandusky say Burgess' name much, if at all, this preseaon. Hasn't made a significant impact this year.

I'm so excited to see Allen now.

It will be interesting to see who gets cut and who the Ravens pick up here. Also a few minor trades in the works.

But we do know:

WR - Boldin, Evans, Reed, Doss, Smith, Williams
TE - Dickson, Pitta, Wilson
HB - Rice, Williams, Allen, Leach at FB

Gooden has got some talent but when you're always riding the bike while everyone else plays football it's just a matter of time before the team cuts you.

Glad that Anthony Allen looks to be making the team with Parmele cut. I honestly thought they would try to get him on the practice squad

Being a sick human being, my 53 looks ok so far. I don't think I had Burgess, Gooden, or Parmele making the team. I had four TEs making it though Drew and Wilson...

The Gooden experiment is over. That works in Jason Phillips'/Josh Bynes' favor. Though I don't think I have either making the 53.

Well you have to play catch up now. Since I am dead on so far. Doubt that lasts. But those were some of the tougher ones.

still will be interesting to see which 2 of Phillips/BA/Bynes make the team as I dont see 1 or 3 of those, I think it is 2 of them, just not sure which two. BA and Phillips have ST experience but with the new kickoff rule ST is less and less valuable so who knows
