Cut Ayanbadejo? No way. He's a ST Pro-bowler and a very good ILB.

I do not think that Lequan will get cut... Hardy and Jones are my opinions of getting cut...
Thats what I said. Anyone not named those receivers will be cut. So Hardy, Marcus, Jones and whoever else will get cut.

Everyone on here says to cut Phillips... and I agree. He's a definite liability in coverage. He can make the tackle if the play comes to him, but he doesn't have great lateral speed or agility (like Ellerbe, for example).

I considered him history, no chance of sticking.

Unfortunately, in today's Insider, Harbaugh said, "Jason Phillips is outstanding and really stepped up,” Harbaugh said. “He was all over the field making tackles.”

So, he may stay... The question is, who's place does he take?

Damn. I really don't think he's that worthy of a roster spot. I was hoping we'd cut him and maybe even Gooden if necessary so that we'd be able to keep Bynes and maybe even McAdoo.

I think it's still likely Gooden gets cut though.

Bynes has outplayed every other LB in preseason, and McPhee every DLineman.

Who would have thought we'd be saying that?

Harbaugh BETTER keep Bynes on the 53 man roster - if he tries to slip him onto the PS, someone is certain to scoop him up. The Eagles are hurting for LBs, Bynes would be cheap, and I'm sure they've watched film - we did play them, after all...

The question about McPhee is not whether he makes the roster - it's whether he's STARTING. :)

Good points. Also, with regards to McPhee, he has the added safety of being a draft selection. To not make the roster he would have had to have been completely outplayed by the competition. As it is we know the opposite is true and he's really opened eyes this preseason.

He's also 34 years old, coming off injury, only 228 pounds, and a career special teamer. There's a reason McClain and Ellerbe have gotten more time than him. We can survive without him. STs are actually easy to find. If he's such a "very good ILB", why isn't he starting? Look at the depth chart, he's not even 2nd string.

Phillips.... Think we need to cut him. He shows flashes of greatness, and then shows flashes of "bumness". Lol. If he could cover, or play sweep... Maybe...

We need to keep more OL this year. I think last year proved we needed more depth at OL, and we need to keep the depth we can.

He can cover and he did spend time with the 1s this preseason. I haven't seen much of him during the games but he is in the loop for the ILB spot next to Ray.

No. No he didn't. You haven't seen much of hm during the games, because he wasn't on the field much. He is not in the loop. McClain has that locked up, and the only one threatening him is Ellerbe. He can't cover, I dont even know how many times I've seen passes go over his head, this year and last. and don't try and say that was a good pick, Jimmy tipped it, and Phillips was in the right spot at the right time.

I was talking about Ayanbadejo. But I admit, when I said "he can cover" I thought you were still talking about him and not Phillips. My mistake.

Brendon is a good cover guy. Phillips is not.

You're good. Brendon is a good cover guy, and a good ST, but he's aging, and declining. He gets his but kicked in the run. ST experts are also a dying breed due to the new kickoff rules. I just think he's replaceable.

I think since Brendon is the best cover ILB he might as well be on the team for those all-important passing downs. Or we could see McClain get mismatched all year.

I think we let his contract expire or release him after this year, but now is too soon.

Philips was on his last legs anyway, yes he made some plays in last nights game but was that enough for him to remain on the team? I dont think he's done enough

Trade Foxworth and maybe Kruger.
Why Kruger, he's looking pretty darn good this year so far. Just curious.

That scares me. I would much rather have Bynes on the roster than Phillips, or Gooden for that matter.

I really hope the Front Office reads these post, Phillips is a major liability we do not need. Trade for briggs, and keep Bynes. Briggs next to Lewis Bynes along with Suggs and McPhee will be so awesome.

I really hope not. These guys are paid to do this as a job. We sit on the sidelines and play armchair GM. If they keep Philips its because they want something he can potential offer.

I hear ya'. I would hope they don't pick "experience" over the rookie - especially because the experience is all bench-time. Neither Gooden nor Phillips have shown me much, even if they are former draft picks. This is Gooden's 4th season and Phillips' 3rd - it's not like they haven't had time to improve, or a chance to show their talent.

Bynes has so much energy, hunger, passion - you can see him flying around the field, flying to the ball... QUALITY youth is what we need, and at some point, Ray Lewis is going to hang them up - and it sure won't be Phillips or Gooden replacing him.

I don't see the benefit to wait this year for a potential offer from Phillips if we can get instant results from someone else.

we will need to trade for Briggs
No offense, but I think there's zero chance for this... and everytime a quality player on another team wants to be traded or is released, someone here suggests we sign him / trade for him.

Like Andre Gurode a couple of days ago... ;)

Like I said on the Briggs thread in the "Other NFL Teams" section... Briggs is 30 years old, makes $6 million, would require us trading (probably) draft picks, and is not a need. The upgrade of Lance Briggs over Jameel McClain is not such a wide gap that it would be worth us giving up draft picks... and having to reduce our salary cap by $3 million + somewhere else...
