What Happens If...(James Hardy)

46 posts in this topic

James Hardy absolutely tears it up in the final preseason game. I was watching the most recent 2 minute drill video and it got me thinking about it. Granted, it's pretty unlikely but physically he is unlike any other WR on the roster at 6'5". I love LaQuan but I think there is at least a decent chance he would make it past waivers and we can put him on the PS but if we cut Hardy he's gone for good. It sorta reminds me of that undrafted rookie WR for the Giants last year that nobody knew of until he had that monster game in the preseason and the Giants were forced to keep him on the 53 man roster.

Thoughts...

If Hardy wanted it he would have outplayed Williams

He's been injured since early in training camp. This final preseason game will be his first.

Cruz yea, he was a monster last preseason. You bring up some good points. But honestly, Hardy would have to have like... a perfect game (on tape w/ route running, making the right reads, picking up the correct blocking responsibilities) in addition to him making some big plays on the field, to be considered by Harbaugh atm. Looking at Harbaughs interview today, he looked completely dissapointed in the whole Hardy conversation. I believe Harbs is gonna look at (the body of work), more so then the potential... only because with uncertainty with how the top 4 WR's will fair, you never know when you might have to call upon someone deeper down your depth chart. And unfortunately Hardy has had pretty much NO body of work... his body of work was ummm... broke lol

Is it impossible for him to make the team? No, he definitely has a chance. I just think he would have to play absolutely lights out, and the trainers have to feel comfortable about him moving forward. Hes just soooo injury prone.

The chances that the Ravens take a flier on James Hardy at this point are slim and none and I think I just saw slim leaving town.

It's never been an issue with talent but the man just cant stay healthy, Buffalo gave him two years to get healthy and get on the field and they gave up and cut him. The Ravens picked him up and the first week of training camp Hardy has a hamstring injury and hasn't played at all until this past week. The Ravens would have to be blown away, if they keep him they'd have him sign a contract with a clause in saying if he gets injured they can cut him outright, no questions asked. Maybe an incentive laden deal like..you play this many games you get this, you catch this many TDs you get this..etc etc

Hardy's problem is definitely not his size nor is it because of his raw talents..... its because of his injuries that he has been derailed of his career so far. I think the injury in camp was not an aberration but instead a sign of things to come for Hardy this year. I'd rather have a healthy Williams by far over a useless, oft-injured Hardy.

Why would we not be able to put Hardy on the practice squad? Don't forget special teams being a big factor for Harbs, we know LaQuan can contribute and I'm unaware that Hardy can.

IMO we just took a flier on Hardy with a minimal risk, potentially rewarding signing. His major criticism was that he couldn't stay healthy and all he's done whilst here is prove that. I imagine it would take some performance in Atlanta for him to make the roster.

He's been on an active roster for an accrued year (6+ games)....cannot go to the PS!

We know how much Cam loves tall WR's but I think the thing that will work against Hardy even more so than his injury history will be special teams. I don't think he contributes on special teams. Does he? Whereas LaQuan clearly can return kicks.

It's really unfortunate about Hardy though. Ozzie seemed to bring him up every chance he got during the lockout.

That's one of the exact reasons I dont want him on the team. All the guy does is get hurt

We will not be keeping and injury waiting to happen on the 53 man roster. This guy would probably pull a groin doing stretches pre game.....thats just the way it is, its how his body is built. Sure he's a big target but Joe's not going to be throwing the ball to him on the sidelines unless the rush is on and he has to throw it away.

Losing all of training camp....sure he could play against ATL and look good but do the Ravens really want to gamble on this guy staying healthy? His past says thats a losing bet.

What happens if the Ravens sign Andre Geroud or Pat Williams
[/quote]
Then, we will have signed two players that we don't need!

Thats exactly it. And it is really unfortunate someone of his talent and ability that he can't stay on the field. And that is probably the main reason Williams will win the job. Doesn't matter how talented you are if you get hurt all the time and can't play. Might as well get a young guy who will play special teams and has a higher percentage chance of staying healthy. Its just business

It is a shame about Hardy. I loved him when the Bills drafted him. Kept waiting for him to breakout and he never did.

But in all honesty I think they just want Hardy to play and not be injured in the final game, so that they can cut him without giving him an injury settlement. No matter what he does in the final game, I think the coaches minds have been made up.

idk, depending on the contract he signed and what clauses were in it, because he has a known injury history, the Ravens could cut him and be in the clear/right in doing so...he's worse than Matthew Stafford and that guy gets hurt like REAL easy

You can't really judge a player's ability to make the team by what he has shown in preseason games. What is his ethic like in practice? We weren't there everyday at training camp and we have no idea what Harbaugh and the rest of the staff has in mind for Hardy.

I'd personally like to see the team throw him on IR and give him one last shot next year. There's tons of potential if he can avoid injuries

Can you put someone on IR that's not injured...?

It's only a matter of time...

But seriously, it seems like we do it every year to Matt Lawrence. Aside from last year, none of his injuries were ever bad enough to where a trip to the IR was necessary. Teams put guys with minor injuries on IR all the time to keep them around

Is his body made of Tofu? lol...

I think the reason that his body is so fragile is his diet and work ethic. If he eats right, exercises right, and stretches right, it's tough to get hurt unless someone hits him really bad....

But bob sanders was a real difference maker when healthy on the field. Pro bowl , defensive player of year.
Hardy is barely a 4th a string WR with his on field accomplishments.

I pretty much believe the coaches have their minds made up for most of the players. At this point they just want to make certain their decision is the best decision. And to evaluate who to place on the practice squad.

Ah right. Thanks for clearing that up. In that case it's likely the end of the road as a Raven for Hardy then. I'd rather not chance Williams being picked off of our PS.
