I live in DC and was in a bar talking about the Ravens/Skins preseason game the night before it went down. Some random skins fan turned to me and said "it's not called the battle of the beltway, nobody ever calls it that."

Skip Bayless' opinion carries about the same weight with me as that guy's.

Well technically it should be the battle of I-95 or Battle Maryland because the two teams play on separate beltways.

Okay, further proof Skip just talks to get people up in arms, they had to rank all 4 AFC North teams, and Skip put the Bengals ahead of the Browns....and then it was Ravens, and the Steelers at first. AND once again they saif Baltimore is getting too old and no mention of how the Steelers are one of the oldest teams in the league and the Ravens are actually around the 13th youngest

Take nothing skip says seriously

He also insinuated that Troy Aikman was gay in one of his books. I didn't discover that until yesterday but it's hilarious. More reasons to disregard Bayless.

Did you read this article, where Aikman said that if he sees Skip, he won't rule out punching him out? He's still pissed, 15 years later!

My appreciation for Troy Aikman just increased... :)

Mark Sanchez is a media darling and he sucks.

He was the 27th ranked QB (in passer rating) last year, ahead of only:

28. Matt Hasselbeck
29. Brett Favre
30. Derek Anderson (backup to Cam Newton)
31. Jimmy Clausen (backup to Cam Newton) :)

Scrock, you're right, ESPN sucks, Skip sucks, and Mark Sanchez sucks.

Just now on First Take they were talking about Mark Sanchez and his progression and he he has new weapons to throw to and he's not going to be as accurate or it might take some time to get it together.

Okay, how come a guy like Mark gets a pass but when Joe Flacco loses Mason and Todd Heap,,it seems like people dont take that into account. Why is there such a double standard? Like its okay if Mark struggles early because has has to overcome losing some pieces but when Joe Flacco loses some pieces its completely on him.....its ridiculous to me.

They discussed this on !st and 10 and their podcast of todays show will be online sometime later today...

Just irritates the hell out of me that Joe Flacco an Mark Sanchez aren't judged equally. Joe has to overcome some losses and make do with some rookies and 2nd year players. The one thing they did get right is Skip got on Mark for his poor accuracy throwing the ball....but other than that its the same old thing. Joe Flacco is like the ugly stepchild and every other young QB is chosen son.

ESPN sucks

Hey Scrock, you'll enjoy this article, entitled, "When Did ESPN Lose Its Journalistic Integrity?"

It's actually pretty insightful... not to mention scathing. ;)

Bayless' persona on ESPN is being the tool that people love to hate--just like Cowherd. He takes it all the way to the bank. I remember several years ago in that Florida-UCLA championship basketball game when he said Noah was going to get destroyed and UCLA would stomp all over Florida. The man knows sports, alright. I'll take his Flacco comments as the greatest compliment the media has ever paid Joe.

I forget who the guy was today reviewing the division, but did he even mention the addition of Evans? I just heard him say how we have no speed, and teams will box up Rice.

I like it when we are under the radar though. We always seem to be at our best this way.

I read the PFT article to the same effect. Just ridiculous. Especially considering Aikman had been married for 10 years (until recently) and has two daughters. Anything that will sell books or get viewers, right, Skip?

The First Take episode about the AFC North rankings irritated me today. First of all, whoever ranked the AFC north before Skip talked about the lack of deep threat in Baltimore. I hate when those guys don't even know their own things they are reporting, when we got Lee Evans and he has looked sharp in Baltimore for a deep threat.

Then when Skip got up there, he basically was doing things to the entire city of Pittsburgh that is inappropriate to say on this forum. He was saying how there is a broader gap between the Steelers and the Ravens, even more than last year. Did the Ravens not improve their deep threat? Did we not improve our offensive line (we are going to be better regardless since Oher is at RT and Yanda at RG. McKinnie just has to be solid and we are better than last year. I mean we had Chris Chester starting some weeks....). Did we not improve the cornerback position? Has Flacco not improved the past 3 years so what makes people think he won't improve this year?

Sorry, I'm probably repeating points. I just had to vent a little
