Torrey Running With 1's Over Doss!?

Its a combination of complimenting skill sets, what they have invested in Torrey compared to Doss and frankly after 1 training camp its too early to pass off on Torrey and give Doss the time with the 1s. Plus this is the "natural progression" so to speak, Torrey is the #3 on the depth chart, Evans gets hurt, everyone bumps up 1 spot, no leapfrogging. If this was year 3 for both Doss and Smith and Smith was still with the 1s then Id be inclined to agree. But Smith needs that faster pace the 1s provide to get used to the game,

Torrey should not be #3 on the depth chart in anyone's mind at this point in time though. He has not proven he can perform at an NFL level by any means. I am not suggesting in any way that he is a bust and the Ravens' give up on him, however, anyone with half a brain can see he is not ready to start, period. For now, he should be relegating to sitting behind those who have earned their playing time.

1 thing is clear, let the QB, Joe Flacco, pick and choose what WR we should draft from now on. He said Doss catches the ball easy and looks like he'd be easy to throw to...and so far Doss is just that. As good as Ozzie is maybe Joe also has an eye for receivers.

I say let Joe into the war room next year and if we draft another WR or something let Joe make the pick

Thats simply not how things work in professional sports Im sorry. With contracts and draft slots, those guys will ALWAYS get the opportunity before a later round pick. Especially after a 3 week camp. With these young guys alot of it has to do with how much is invested in a player. Torrey has more invested in him than Doss, ergo he gets more opportunities to play.

Actually, it is about putting the best product on the field. It always has been. Sure, they will hang onto high rd draft picks longer if they underperform than a later rd one who does not perform, because of their investment. However, at the end of the day, in the good organizations, it will be about who is performing and this has always been one of the better organizations.

Torrey at this point in time, is not putting the best product on the field.

Smith will be ok he just caught 8 balls for 182yrds in madden 12 ha but seriously smith will pan out. The guy is trying to hard to be perfect instead of letting instincts take over.

...actually tears it up in practice. It's live games that he struggles with.[/quote]

What does Justin Harper have to do with Torrey Smith? Oh wait......

I think you can make an argument for both BPA and potential, for example some teams like the Dolphins don't invest as much stock into draft position as they do cash.

The reason Torrey is running with the ones, is to simulate the speed that Evans has on the outside. Lord knows he needs the practice.

What they don't have in common is about 3 years of NFL experience and Torrey went in the 2nd, not the 7th...

Torrey will be fine. He has an awesome work ethic and his route running is actually pretty good. He needs to just relax and get out of his head.

Smiths biggest issue right now is that he over thinks if he just goes out and plays then he will be fine. He needs to listen to his boy Williams because so far Williams is showing what we had hoped to see with Torrey. Truthfully tho I believe against lesser competition Smith will thrive. Taylor will put on a show down at his mentors old home and im ready to see it.

Then why do first round picks get more opportunity than 6th round picks? Its the nature of professional sports, Torrey Smith is going to get every opportunity to succeed ahead of Doss. Thats just the way it is. The Steelers, a great organization, held onto Limas Smeed for what 3 years trying to get something out of the 3rd round investment. The Jets held onto Gholston for 3 years as well, even though that was blatantly obvious he was no good.

Im not saying your wrong, it should be best player plays regardless of draft slot or contract worth, all Im saying is there are definite gray areas that come into play in professional sports.
