Ngata's Contract Not Done Yet Scares Me

37 posts in this topic

Keep in mind that there is a lot of risk on Ngata's part if he does not get a deal done before the season starts. If he goes into the season with this one year franchise deal and then blows out his knee it could lose him $$$ millions.

If there is a fair deal it will get signed, if not then maybe what he wants is not in the best interests of the Ravens long term

Ngata's "holding out" for more money because he knows we need to free up cap space. It's smart on his end, but I would hope he'd be amenable to a tad "discount" lol

He has said he wants to get it done. He's the epitome of a team player, and he realizes we could spend money elsewhere. He's not really holding out. Chris Johnson is holding out. How many players hold out, or demand trades after being tagged?!?! Ngata's being very good about this situation.

Ok, the fact that he is waiting for more money (if that is in fact the case) is kind of irritating because just because you can, does not mean you should. Now I think hands down he is the best DL in football but I will say this, I am not blindly in love with the man there are a few things that irritate me about him.

The first is he shoots gaps some and gets burnt doing it every once in a while. Now that alone happens to everybody but the next reason is what makes this one so bad.

Does anybody remember when he got burnt for the only touchdown we gave up against KC (in the playoffs) because he shot a gap. Then Ray takes him to the sideline and grabs his ear for a minute to try and tell him not to do that and if he see's something and is going to do it let him know, and he just sort of looked away as if he didn't care. That more than irritated me, but I can let that one go.

And then when he was a rookie he was holding out as well, which is why this does not surprise me at all, it seems like money is awfully important to him for him to be a true team player. ( However he should be paid what he is worth)

That being said If his deal is over the 85 to 90 mil for 6 years I am not sure he is worth that. I would be open to trading him if that is the price he wanted his next contract to be for 2 reasons.

Both of which are obvious but we could get almost anything we asked for him. and the second being equally as obvious cap space.

Now that all being said I want to see him back but only if it is for a reasonable price where not all of the risk is on us.

How many times has he been burned while shooting gaps? I'll admit tht, but how many DL do that? ALOT. Ray's been burned, gonna trade him too? Reed's gottne burned goin for picks, wanna cut him or trade him? Suggs has missed a sack or too, I guess ya wanna trade him too. It's not all about the money dude, read my points I made to FerrariFan. He's the epitome of a team player, thats a fact.

What I think is funny is how many haters show up when contract issues arise, but months later, forget they ever hated. We all remember all Ray's haters. Suggs had haters too. Shame...

I think if it was a concern, ESPN would be on it like white on rice. Now's a quirky time and the front office has plenty to do. He'll be a Raven for a long time, like everyone else said.

I don't blame any player for holding out for the biggest possible contract. Ngata knows that he has bankable skills and that he can push the Ravens to pay him big. Plus, his contract won't be guaranteed--if he blows out a knee then the Ravens cut him loose then that's the end of his career. He's trying to protect himself against that.

It seems that fans put a lot of pressure on individuals to be "team players," and give their team a discount on contract, or play all the way through a disadvantageous contract, but when a team makes a decision to cut loose a faltering player it's a business decision. That's a double standard that needs to be thought about.

Ok everything you just said I had already said or did you not read those parts. I said a lot of dline guys get burnt shooting gaps. I also said I wanted ngata back did you miss that part too. And I am not hating on the guy in fact I think I gave him props by saying he was the best dline guy in the game. The only two things I said about him that was "hating" i guess would be how he brushed off Ray, and how he held out his rookie season for more money. I guess it is not really hating if they are facts but if that is how you choose to see it fine.

I was just stating that if he chooses to go elsewhere, well worse things have happened.

Seriously man take a riddelin and re-read my post you will find that I said I want him here and if you look at it reasonably you will also see I didnt hate on the guy.

Although I wish this had been done weeks ago, I am not worried at all about the Ravens getting this taken care of in some way, shape, or form.
