The fact that his contract isnt done yet scares me.. the possiblity of him hitting free agency next year is a nightmare to me....

Don't worry man. It's going to get done, all of the other franchised players around the league got solid, long-term deals (i.e. Tamba Hali, Woodley). Ngata is just as good as these guys, and probably better. Oz isn't going to let him slip away.

Don't worry. It'll get done. Ravens like to take their time with these large contracts. Suggs had the tag on him for over a year. Ngata is a big part of the future, and the Ravens won't be letting him go.

The only way the Ravens don't re-sign Ngata, is if they know something about him that we don't. Rarely have the Ravens let a player walk that would go on to find greater success elsewhere. There's been a couple of instances (Priest Holmes comes to mind), but none that yielded a huge contract and lived up to it later.

Ngata is too big of the deal to let go and the man is a good man on and off the field. I don't see any reason we can't resign him unless something weird is happening like our owner is mysteriously switched.......

I think most ppl here are more worried about keeping Ngata forever than space cap right now.....

As much as I would like to get it done now and have some cap space and all, I would much rather our organization hammer out a deal that is good for BOTH sides where no insane money is paid out (haynesworth type ) so that it debilitates future FA and so on. I like there approach they gave suggs a huge deal at the time but was not to the point where it has hurt us later.

Lets pay this guy and keep a raven long after he retires.. We will need his services to help support this DLine talent and mentor our younger guys so that we may have another just like him......

Ozzie takes his time with extensions (Suggs came down to the last minute)

I personally am not worried. Both sides want this deal done

I thought there was a deadline to when you could sign franchise players to long term deals. Not sure where I heard it from, but I thought there was... either way:

I'm not really happy with how its dragging out but this is the Front Office MO. If Ngata has something like 8-9 sacks this year and a boat load of tackles... The price will go up even higher...

Typical stalemate between FO and player agent when it comes to big time money. The FO is using time to widdle down likely hefty demands from the agent. The Fact that Vick and Fitz are getting big money is likely spurring the agent to ask a high price.

Ngata's "holding out" for more money because he knows we need to free up cap space. It's smart on his end, but I would hope he'd be amenable to a tad "discount" lol

The deal will likely get done, he seems very content in Baltimore. Remember, this isn't baseball. The Yankees are not going to offer Ngata 100 Million for six years.

Ok, the fact that he is waiting for more money (if that is in fact the case) is kind of irritating because just because you can, does not mean you should. Now I think hands down he is the best DL in football but I will say this, I am not blindly in love with the man there are a few things that irritate me about him.

The first is he shoots gaps some and gets burnt doing it every once in a while. Now that alone happens to everybody but the next reason is what makes this one so bad.

Does anybody remember when he got burnt for the only touchdown we gave up against KC (in the playoffs) because he shot a gap. Then Ray takes him to the sideline and grabs his ear for a minute to try and tell him not to do that and if he see's something and is going to do it let him know, and he just sort of looked away as if he didn't care. That more than irritated me, but I can let that one go.

And then when he was a rookie he was holding out as well, which is why this does not surprise me at all, it seems like money is awfully important to him for him to be a true team player. ( However he should be paid what he is worth)

That being said If his deal is over the 85 to 90 mil for 6 years I am not sure he is worth that. I would be open to trading him if that is the price he wanted his next contract to be for 2 reasons.

Both of which are obvious but we could get almost anything we asked for him. and the second being equally as obvious cap space.

Now that all being said I want to see him back but only if it is for a reasonable price where not all of the risk is on us.

It's really a shame that all of these players are getting paid more than they're actually worth right now. Fitzgerald and Vick (and now Frank Gore) are getting paid extra to be the "face of the franchise", which doesn't provide added value to the team, it only provides added value to the owner's wallet in the form of jersey and ticket sales. Ngata could very well be looking to be paid along the same lines, while Baltimore feels like it's already doing that with Ray, Ed and Terrell (and next year will have to do it for Joe and Mighty Mouse, too).

Cap room: $2,344,835

Analysis: Baltimore's cap number is somewhat deceiving. The team will have more room -- perhaps as much as $5 million to $7 million -- once it reaches a long-term extension with Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. The Ravens are working to extend Ngata and remove the franchise tag. But both sides have been unable to reach an agreement. Baltimore has been active and has a chance to make a couple more moves after Saturday's cuts. But the Ravens first have to take care of their in-house business with Ngata. "
Ngata will get his deal done, and even so we still have over 2 million under the cap so when teams start making cuts we can pick up some more veterans who want to win a ring...

I'd expect the Ngata deal get done before the season starts...or at least I'm hopeful

but I DO KNOW it will get done
