Good for Vick. Hope he lives up to it. He will really need to become the pocket passer so he stays healthy and can have a longer career. He isn't going to have the same wheels once 36 comes around. Gotta be a more consistent passer

Just don't like seeing any team from Pennsylvania succeeding so I hope he does not live up to that contract and looks like Pre season game 2 Mike Vick all year....

Signed a 10-year $130M contact with the Falcons, now a 6-year $100M one with the Eagles... INSANE money.

Considering what the Eagles have done this off-season, we should be able to keep Joe, Rice, Grubbs, extend Oher, and extend Ngata all in one off-season........ oh wait we have a salary cap to follow.

Eagles will be in Cap Hell in about 2-3 Years and their team will implode.

I'm a Vick fan and all, but thats is a ridiculous amount of money after just 1 great season.
That's what I was going back and forth about with my buddy originally from Philly. You know Vick would have signed for a lesser amount. I don't get it AT ALL!!!

Talk about a waste of money, especially for a guy who can't make it through an entire season. That's way too much money and time for a QB as old and as flawed as Vick. Once his speed goes away he has nothing to fall back on, since he's really a skinny running back that people claim is a QB. Now that there's fresh game tape on Vick, he won't have a season anywhere close to the one he had last year.

You would think, but that kind of money is not enough for Vick. He will find a way to go bankrupt again.

Did you even take into consideration that his offensive line is falling apart infront of him? The guards suck, Deseans upset, and Andy has too much on his mind(I think Andy wants Mike Kafka to start two years in). This makes for a horrible offense when your quarterback drops back for 20 yards and hardly ever looks to pass. Big one up for you!

I doubt he'll see the entire 100 million since NFL contracts aren't completely guaranteed. He'll probably see around 60-70% of that money and a good portion of it will go to his creditors. The real money will be from endorsements and he is racking them up again. Wonder what the Nike deal is..

Excellent article on the breakdown of the contract. Curls the thought that Vick is actually going to make anywhere close to 100 million.

How does Vick make out?
Well, he's allowed to keep the money left over after his creditors are paid off on the schedule made by the court. So next year, he starts with $17 million, takes $300,000 for himself, gives $5.85 million to his creditors, pays taxes and makes after taxes and makes required monthly payments to his ex-girlfriend and his mother, among others. That leaves him with about $3.7 million.
Of that, he has to pay the lawyers and accountants, 50 percent ($1,850,000). Vick can then bank the other $1,850,000, but can't touch it. That means that on a $17 million salary, Vick will net about $1.88 million next year. That means he makes 11 percent of what the Eagles pay him.

On PAPER Vince Young is the backup, but Kafka has outplayed him in every preseason game...

Like James said, in 2 years, if Vick fails, Kafka will be the next Kevin Kolb.

I really can't see Viince staying past this year. He hasn't given the Eagles much to be pleased about. I think the Eagles would prefer to go with Kafka and wish they didn't spend 4M on Vince Young.

I hear ya'. I don't understand the Eagles. They have 2 starting-caliber QBs in Kolb & Vick, and they seemed eager to trade Kolb, to eliminate a QB controversy (not to mention the 2nd round pick they got :) ). But then they bring in Vince Young - another former starter (for $4 million, like you said) with Kafka on the roster.

On defense, they have Assante Samuel for $9.5 million. They trade for Rodgers-Cromartie, a very good CB with a cheap contract - only $1 million/yr for the next 2 years. So, they sign Asomugha for $12 million. He's a great player, but was unnecessary, when they are terrible at LB. And, they give Jason Babin a large contract when he's had ONE good NFL season.

They look clueless.
