Apollo 18

73 posts in this topic

Ok so there's this new movie coming out called Apollo 18 as I'm sure some of you have noticed on TV. I know there's a movie thread but I don't want to focus on just the movie I was also wondering what you all think of the theories out there about this stuff. The movie is supposedly footage that was found of a secret moon landing in 1974 in which the crew encounters aliens and dissapear. The tagline of the movie is "There is a reason we never went back." Do any of you think it is plausible that this could of happened? I don't believe in it but it does strike me as interesting.

Six Apollo missions successfully landed men on the moon. Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, and 17. So why haven't we been back in the past 40 years? I guess it could be because we accomplished everything that we wanted to on the moon and had no interest in going back. Could there be any other explanations? There is also a conspiracy out there about an Apollo 20 mission that spotted an alien aircraft on the moon. And we all know about the theory that we never actually landed on the moon in the first place. Does anybody here believe that to be true? Thoughts on any of this?

If you ask me the movie looks kind of lame. I won't be watching it.

This is where we get political. It has nothing to do with interest. We have plenty of interested people. Do you think lack of funding could be the reason we have yet to go back?

I don't believe in Aliens, The Tooth Fairy, or Santa Clause

Yea I knew this was gonna be an issue my bad haha...Yea probably funding but it's been 40 years and I think if we REALLY wanted to go back we would have by now....Well I don't believe in the tooth fairy or santa clause bbut I don't think they fall in the same category as aliens. The universe is gigantic there's gotta be something out there. And an alien doesn't necessarily have to be a big green thing or whatever.

Personally, I only think there is life on Earth (unless the Russians have a military hidden on the moon :P ). As far as getting back to the moon, I would love for America to get there this decade. It's been too long.

Agreed about going back. I'd love to see that since I wasn't alive in 1969 haha

Even though I can't prove it, it is pretty much mathematically impossible for there NOT to be some sort of life besides us out there. Even if its just single celled. The universe is mind-bendingly massive.

You're telling me. It is HUGE! No one can really comprehend it's size.

What are we talking here? Like 10 football fields? 20 football fields? I mean, how many?

True, but I think Mod 6 meant within our solar system. I don't see how anyone could rationally believe there was NO other life outside our solar system. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some other types of unintelligent life forms on planets like Venus, Mars, Jupiter, etc. Heck, there are plenty of life forms on our own planet we are still discovering every day.

Anyway, to the topic, no I don't believe in conspiracy theories or modern interpretations of "aliens" or life on the moon. Apollo 18 (as well as 19 and 20) were cancelled due to budget cuts and other projects taking priority. Just Hollywood making a story with little basis in reality, which is absolutely fine, but that's all there is to it.

Watch the Epic Rap Battles of History - Albert Einstein vs. Stephen Hawking. If nothing else, you learn there are 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 particles in the universe that we can observe. I would imagine that's only like 1/the number listed above that are actually out there. 1/28/01, that's how big it is..if that helps? Lol.

The universe is ever-expanding, we're seeing more of it everyday as light from distant stars is JUST reaching our planet. Hasn't stopped yet, even 4.5 billion years later.

we also have found all the building blocks of life in space

so if all the same materials are out there then its virtually impossible that there isnt life somewhere out there

we havent found any yet but space is huge

Life as we know it anyway. Who's to say life can't be on other worlds in a vastly different form than anything we're familiar with.

Just because the universe is so big doesn't necessarily mean there has to be life elsewhere... until otherwise proven, we're it, and that's fine with me.

Ive always found the theory of "seeding" very interesting. Turns out, things are looking up for the theory. Still needs to be proven inconclusively, but it makes a lot of sense.....

Also. Jupiters moon, Europa, Is thought to have a massive ocean under its thick ice surface. Water=Life. Mars also appears to have massive canyons created by flowing water eons ago.

Just recently, I heard on the news that they found new evidence of water currently being on Mars, where they found new indents in the surface as seen on a satellite, that weren't there before.

This movie looks a little cliché, but I'm a sucker for alien movies, so I'll go and see it. You're very narrow-minded if you don't even give the possiblity of life being out there a chance. Like it's been stated in this thread, the universe unbelievably massive. Give me a break if you possibly think we can be the only life form to live in it.

I believe FF is devoutly religious, and I think thats where he's coming from. But thats about as far as we can discuss that matter.

There's gotta be something out there, there's too much empty space for there not to be something.

I really do wonder why we haven't gone back to the Moon. I'm sure there's interest. It's gotta be a financial issue. But what if it's not?

lol...the observable universe stretches out 13.4 billion light years. ONE light year equals 6 trillion miles and I have no idea how many football fields that'd be.
