We need to take shots though, especially against the blitz to Evans. Otherwise its the same old Ravens offense that doesnt get it done against the Steelers, minus one game. Even if we go into the huddle and Evans isnt 100% and just tell Torrey to run as fast as he can straight down the field, we need to stretch that defense out.
I'm not saying we won't. I'm just saying it won't be as often as everybody wants. We need to stretch the field. This is important. But how confident are the coaches going to be with McKinney and Birk being so fresh and the whole O-line shifting about? The last thing they want is to allow Woodley and Harrison to tee up on Flacco several times.

I think if as the game goes on and the confidence level is there, than we can seek the more aggressive portion of the game plan.

The way to beat the Steelers is thru the air, so the OL has to be able to pass protect, if not then we'll be throwing a lot of short slants and check downs to Ray Rice...then every once in a while Joe will take a shot deep

We saw how Brady and Rodger tore up the steelers defense, and if Flacco can step up his game as well as his receivers, he can beat Pittsburge no problem. It's easy said than be done though cuz those two mentioned are elite and top of their game.

It's big task for our whole offense.....

Our defense and theirs are pretty much equal but I think we have the edge of CBs....

Evans will be ready for Pitt cone Week 1. We need him to stretch the field and open up things for Boldin, etc. underneath. Dickson should also be able to do some things when lined up against a LB or Safety.

I think we'll be able to score at least 17 pts against their defense. Tim Hightower ran the ball down their 1st string run defense's throat in their first game, and Matt Ryan passed for 220 yards in 3 quarters against their 1st string pass defense.

We just can't overlook how their offense is playing.

Roethlisberger is on fire. He's 21 for 31 with 4 TDs and 0 INTs - a 146.6 rating - this preseason. Antonio Brown is lighting it up, and combining him with Mike Wallace...

Yes, we need Lee Evans out of his boot... but mostly, we need the OLine to gel, and give Flacco the time to put some points up... I don't think Week 1 is going to be a 13-10 game.

Ya, and the last thing we need are some of Cam's sweet max protection 2 route play calls with no check down against the Steelers. I think early we're going to see if Oher can handle Woodley on his own, if thats the case in our split back formation Williams will chip on McKinnie's side.

What has the team "officially" reported on Evens status?
Not until after week 1 cuz we don't want the Steelers' strat including Evans....lol

I think Foxworth's 4 year, $28 million contract will be an anchor that could sink him. I wouldn't be surprised if they told him that a pay cut is the only way he makes the team...

Channing Crowder was the face of the Dolphins defense last year... and now he's unemployed.

NFL - Not For Long.
LOL calling that sack of worthlessness the face of a <very> poor defence is a slap in the face to the Dolphins Defense. LOL The only thing worse than his play is his dumb things that come out of his mouth.

I wouldn't mind the Ravens going to a 3 wide receiver set first play of the game and hit Lee Evans for a long bomb for a TD

that will get the house rocking

I just heard on The Fan that Evans is still in a boot and not practicing... I'm getting a little worried now.
Its not anything serious, they wear the boot so nothing can touch it, the opening isnt for another two weeks or whatever, he'll be ready to go, Evans and Joe already have good timing together too

The boot is usually worn for a week or so anyway

Yeah it sounds like the Ravens should have even more interest on finding a veteran #3 WR since Reed and Smith aren't looking so hot this early on. Especially with Lee Evans having foot issues.

David Reed and Doss can make plays man, last night was just bad..the OL was pretty shaky all night and the QB Cantwell hadnt seen much action at all...Reed had a couple uncharacteristic drops but thats all....he did make the one nice catch but the ref said he pushed off? JOKE

now....when roster cuts occur across the league if Ozzie sees a veteran WR who could help and come in for league minimum then sure he'd make that move potentially

I'm just hoping people don't freak out when we don't go deep as often against the Steelers. I can see the Ravens gameplan being toned down due to the fact that the O-Line is still working to get into game form. And since its the blitzing Steelers we are playing against.
I agree with you--I just think HAVING him there forces drastic changes in defensive schemes because you can't ignore the real threat he poses. You let Mr. Evans get behind you once and that can be the difference between winning and losing a game.
Yea.. I agree I'm not comfortable with none of our young receivers at this point. I thought Reed would take the 3 spot last night, but after those drops I think he lose it. I think Doss would be the best option now but, I think we should look elsewhere and give them more time to learn.

Im comfortable with David Reed and Doss as the 3rd guy but if they can bring someone in to make us better I'm fine with that too..David Reed can catch the ball, the entire offense looked bad last night, Reed was catching balls from a QB who doesnt really do much work, he did make a real nice catch but the ref said he pushed off which was BS...Reed is a good one, he just needs to get some game time

David Reed is going to be a really good weapon for us
I believe in Reed and think he could still be our 3rd receiver but if there is better options out there for us then we should look at it. It's not the end of the world if we don't make a move, but they still have to grow on me pretty much. One thing I did forget was that Flacco wasn't throwing the ball to none of our young receivers besides Smith in the preseason. That alone should make them better lol.

sure, with roster cuts coming like I said if Ozzie sees a way to better the team I'm sure he'll make the move...

And this is why the title of this thread is so important... Lee has to stretch the defense, and won't be able to do that if he's gimpy.

I know everyone's saying the (mystery) injury is nothing, but a 1/2 speed Evans won't help, even if he's healthy enough to suit up.

I'm pretty sure he got injured with that horse collar-esque tackle he got in one of the preseason gamest. I immediately thought he blew his knee out on that play, I was pissed... but a foot sprain makes sense with how he came down

Has anyone read or heard any updates on Lee Evans? I can't find anything...I'm starting to think this is a ploy by the team trying to make the Steelers think Lee Evans wont be out there on Sunday...probably not the case

I wish they'd say something I have Lee Evans on my fantasy teams

Its still nice to hear that he practiced, still an ankle injury can get bad fast...thats why they took the precaution with the boot and gave him a week off...

So he can be ready for week 1

No doubt stretching the field helps the run and opens up the underneath routes but let's face it... with an o-line that needs to gel & going against a good blitzing team, the way to tear the steelers up is to dink/dunk them to death with the quick short passes like the pats do to them but cam don't seem to be capable to go from his preferred offense plan.
Last year we only had possession receivers & a shaky o-line yet cam refuses to alter his offense but at least this year cam would have no excuse for not performing.
