so has Cary Williams been dropped to a backup role already? I thought he was a potential starter and had been running with the 1s?

thats too bad, I think he's played better than Jimmy so far, Jimmy will be good but he's still learning, he says he didnt communicate well on the play he let the WR run past him for an easy TD...he needs to learn his assignments better, that CANNOT happen in the regular season against the Steelers
jimmy has outplayed cary imo. the only play he has given up anything was the td where he thought ed had his back. other than that he has only given up 2 catches to a top 10 reciever in the league. and both catches were pheonominal plays by bowe. Cary has straight gottem beat plenty of times. jimmy has surely been better than cary

They've both made plays and they've both missed some, I'd say its pretty even with Cary and Jimmy and I'm not biased towards either one...I think they both could start its just a matter of getting them experience and playing time..how soon will they start? idk, i just want the two best CBs to play

Yeah, "I didnt communicate"...... = forgot we were in a cover 3
yeah and when it happened he was mad and pointed towards Reed, like Reed wasnt in the right coverage or something...Reed started running once he realized Jimmy whiffed on his assignment but even if Reed was younger he wouldnt have been able to make up that much ground..Jimmy will learn in time

I don't see how Foxworth could start over cary Williams unless game 1 against the steelers will be played with 2008 Foxworth on the field

I hope hes just taking it easy, this would be a huge blow for them
yes, back on the topic of Lee Evans, I read on fantasy sports on nfl.com that they dont think its anything serious, its a precaution they are taking i guess they are being overly careful

so it could be nothing....maybe they are playing mind games on the Steelers, make them think our deep threat is hurt ha

You are all acting like not having #83 for week one would be tragic. Now, of course any Ravens fan would love to see him out there but i am 97.65% sure that our very David Reed could step right in, fill the hole (downfield threat), and we wouldn't miss a beat (well, maybe 2.35%???). Yes Evans is a Vet and him and Joe have already developed good chemistry, but i bet you Reed knows the playbook a lot more, pros/cons for each.

All i'm saying is that IF, and we all hope not, but IF the injury is something that makes a impact on Evans season, there is no reason to go through a box of tissues crying over it. We have Reed who will play our 2 and Doss would step in as our 3. I would be comfortable with that combination.

Can't wait for 9/11, going to be time to break out my yellow/black toilet paper!

Edit:
Not to mention i think we have some amazingly talented backups, maybe a bit raw but amazing talent, in Hardy, T Smith and Williams. And i think the Taylor to Jones TD pass to win over the skins solidified his % of the 53 man roster.

1057 said they would have an update a littke bit ago. Anybody catch it?

I'm 98% sure he's fine and will be good to go week 1. If he was seriously hurt we would know.

To the guy who said 97.35, your delusional. Lee Evans is a legitimate #1 in the nfl. David reed is a #4 who can return kicks. To even compare them is an insult to lee Evans. Reed is a good #4. Evans is the key to anquan being anquan. Without Evans our offense looks a lot like last year and will disappear at times versus good defenses. With Evans and vonta we are better at running and better at attacking teams deep with the play action which takes our offense to the next step.

this. david reed is a CLEAR downgrade from lee evans. against a team like the steelers, having reed as our #2 rather than lee evans would be borderline tragic.

yeah losing Evans would be a big deal, the dude is a big playmaker and can be a so called home run hitter for us...we need him, can other guys make a few plays? sure it could happen but we need our veteran guys to make plays for us

AND chances are Hardy is gone, he's been injured and hasnt done anything...and BRandon Jones did catch a pass for a TD but he's not going to be on the field much if he makes the team..which is unlikely

still with the "we need him we need him".

FIrst of all, i never said it would be a good thing if Evans went down with a injury, nor did i say i prefer Reed over Evans,

All i said was that IF it is a bad injury, we STILL have a downfield threat. Of course Evans would be better, i said that but we're still going to be an efficient football team without a player we have had less then 3 weeks. So quick to jump to conclusions....

You all attack me saying that Evans is a vet, i mentioned that in my post. Wow, its like you guys just sit here waiting to pick apart somebody's post and put words in their mouth just to start an argument. Read before you argue, everything you all said i had already stated in my post. get with it guys, the season is not over if we lost Evans.

It gets so hard to keep things positive these days on the boards. people are so quick to turn things negative right after somebody (ME) is trying to pick up the spirit...

Man I hope it's nothing serious. We could beat the Steelers week 1 since it looks like we finally got our O-line together, but Lee Evans would help us secure a win that much more.

I don't think there is a question in anybody's mind about Tyrod-i would hope that we are all excited to see what the kid's career can do for Baltimore, i was referring to Jones. And yes, one catch is just one catch, but from what Harbs said after the game in the PC, sure does make you think they are going to keep him around.

How can anyone misspell boot? Anyway, I think that Evans will be fine in 2 weeks. Let him rest in the last game. He certainly earned it. There is little doubt that he is coming into the season as our #1 WR. Even Q can't get downfield to make the big plays like that. If Evans isn't ready for the Steelers, then we run and hit them with the short passing game. Q, Rice, and Doss have great hands. It's all going to come down to whether or not we can put pressure on Rothy and stop him from killing us with the deep ball. I hope someone picks up the Polly overload blitz this time.

I think the "box of tissues crying over it" comment led people to be critical. Losing our best deep threat, two weeks before facing Pittsburgh, is not something to be flippant about. You say David Reed could step right in, but Reed - despite looking great in preseason - has ZERO career catches.

No one is attacking you, but your post made light of losing (perhaps) our best receiver...

Fair enough :). i don't think any ravens fan wants to see him injured at this point, let alone any other ravens player. We're going to make a strong push this year , i have good feelings about the season (the easy schedule helps too!).

and i hope everyone up there is ok tonight. I know the storm is passing through, well just about right now. Us "south east Floridians" got lucky with this one, for once...I was around for Andrew, heck-i remember having to go help cleanup our townhouse on 141st street in OC. Funny, just got a call from my Mom in Towson, of course no power but said it wasn't so bad outside. Good Luck Everyone.

Just read Aaron Wilson reported that Lee Evans' foot was in a boot today after meetings or whatever...anyone else read anything about this? Hope its not anything serious, this would be really bad news.

Maybe just a sprain ?

Thats just great, Torrey you better start putting some glue on your hands like they did in the 60s and 70s, Good thing we still have Doss, Reed, and Laq. Williams < im really excited for this guy, i see some much potential with him, he could be the next Larry Fitz.

Good news

http://blogs.nfl.com/2011/08/27/ravens-expect-wr-evans-back-at-practice-soon/

Why are we saying Laquan Williams could be the next Fitz. Cuz he has dreads? Some comparisons that people try to make are laughable to me. I'm excited about him too but will he be the top wr in the nfl like Fitz is now? I'm willing to bet my entire years pay that will never happen.

As a guy who has watched Lee for a little over 10 years now, this is a little worrisome to me...only because it is the first time (other than the year he lost in college with a torn ACL) that I have seen him wearing any support.

This is "The Year" for Evans. He was drafted high by a terrible team and his rookie year was the last time he had an NFL caliber QB...and compounded it by choosing the money when his rookie contract was running out. (To be fair, it would be hard for anyone to turn down a front-loaded nearly $40M 4 year extension, for which Buffalo paid about $30M for the extra 2 years he stayed there and the year he had left on his rookie deal) Now he is with a real NFL team ( and one that plays his hometown team twice a year), with a real NFL QB, and he is still physically able to make DBs cry...a serious injury now would be a disaster for him.

By the way, I notice a few people wondering if he will be the #1 or #2. My opinion is that it will depend on how one "measures" the difference. Boldin will get more throws and more catches...I think that is a given. However, Lee could very well finish the year with more yards and about the same number of TDs...I think the folks calling them #1a and #1b may have the right idea.

Man, I am looking forward to this year...and I really hope this is just a precaution to make sure he is ready for week 1.
