The Ravens trimmed their roster Saturday morning, cutting nine players.
All NFL teams have to be down to 80 players by Tuesday. The Ravens now stand at 81.
Tackle Oniel Cousins and wide receiver Justin Harper are two of the more well-known names on the list, which also includes seven rookie free agents.
Cousins was a third-round compensatory pick by the Ravens in 2008 who played in 25 games for the Ravens over the past three seasons, including all 16 last year.
He was competing with rookie Jah Reid for the starting right tackle job this preseason, but had a tough preseason debut against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Ravens moved Cousins inside to guard after that, where he started against the Kansas City Chiefs. However, Baltimore slid new addition Mark LeVoir to guard to start against the Washington Redskins.
Harper was in his final chance to make the Ravens’ roster. The former seventh-round draft choice out of Virginia Tech had exhausted his three-year practice squad eligibility.
Harper had four combined receptions for 35 yards this preseason. The 6-foot-3, 226-pound target couldn’t hang on to a potential game-winning pass at the goal line in the final minutes of Thursday night’s game.
Rookie free agent wide receiver LaQuan Williams may have affected Harper’s chances of making the team. Williams has flashed not only as a receiver but on special teams as well.
Tackle Brady Bond and tight end Jonathan Stupar are two other veteran players who were released. Bond spent some time with the Ravens’ practice squad last season. Stupar, a four-year veteran, was signed this preseason after Baltimore released Todd Heap.
Baltimore also waived five rookie free agents: DT Cornell Banks (Fresno State), C Ryan Bartholomew (Syracuse), WR Rodney Bradley (Hawaii), LB Anthony Leon (Arkansas), WR Terrell Zachery (Auburn).

Harper I'm not suprised about. But Cousins? Dont we want him as o line depth? Even if there's no way we want him in an actual game. Sort of the 2011 Frank Walker if you will.

Well, he didn't even see the field last night, did he? I think the coaches really like Levoir, and it appears he's versatile, as he played RG last night while primarily being a T. Mattison is also capable of playing G, and Boren looks like a steal.

Thank the LORD!!! The EZ Pass ran out of funds! This made my day. I'm all smiles.

I think the only reason we put him at guard was for trade bait.

We could retain Cousins to start fights at training camp to fire up all the players for the regular season. Yeah, he can do that right.

I'm kind of surprised they let go of Batholomew already. I was hoping he would at least last until final cuts so we could get him on to the practice squad. I guess they like what Barnes brings better though.

I've always really disliked Cousins. Probably been one of the most vocal on here about him. But I feel bad for that. But thus is football life.

Good Luck elsewhere Cousins, Harper and the rest of the gang.

Foxworth is a huge bum. Cousins was a bigger bum, and also a wide open door when it came to protecting the QB. We dont need him with LeVoir and McKinnie

I hate to see any Raven leave but they were all not worthy. Justin Harper dropped a td pass in the game on thursday and cousins was simply not good.

Justice has been served.

Cousins has shown nothing to warrant a place in the squad throughout the years.

I'm kind of disappointed in Harper, not by the fact he got cut but because I had high expectations for him. There have been years when he showed some promise but this year in particular, he was really bad.

I also feel bad for the people that submitted their 53-man rosters for that competition. I doubt anybody saw the Cousins cut coming..

But, but, you cant get points for being able to tackle before the ball gets to the receiver!

Litte shocked about cutting Cousins with Yanda being being injured. I don't like him as a starter but like him as depth. Well, I got at least 1 wrong on my PIck the team contest :(

Ya.. I think about 99.7% of us saw Cousins leaving this year. Harper.. is probably the only WR in the NFL who is WIDE OPEN every play yet drops it. He's like Limas Sweed. I wonder what will happen to James Hardy..?
