From a Ravens fan perspective I'm happy with the list I think the Ravens are where they should be, but I'm surprised the Packers don't make the list considering they've got Mathews and Woodson, and that they're the defending Super Bowl champs, but thats just my opinion.

If i remember hearing right, I think the Packers lost quite a few of their players via free agency, etc...

Some of us are too lazy to click the link.

Maybe you should post the teams... you know for those people.

I don't know about the Bears and Pats. I drafted the Jets defense, the 3rd defense taken in my league.

Who would honestly put the Patriots defense past the top 20? They suck.

Outside of Cullen Jenkins, who was fantastic when healthy, I don't think they lost anyone who was on pace to start in 2011. Nick Barnett missed the majority of the year, and Desmond Bishop thrived in his place. Jenkins also played sparingly in their Playoffs run because of injuries. In fact, I think it's just the opposite. They're returning practically every starter on defense.

I actually think they look pretty solid on paper. The additions of Shaun Ellis and Albert Haynesworth make them arguably the most talented 3-4 front in the league, with Vince Wilfork commanding the middle. They're also getting back their starting CB in Leigh Bodden, who should complement Pro-Bowler Devin McCourty, and if Ras-I Dowling can remain healthy, it could be a formidable secondary. Brandon Spikes had a good rookie season before it was cut down by injuries. I'd still keep them out of the Top 5, especially with the questions at OLB.

Patriots shouldn't be there... 26th in yards per play last season, the Bills, Cardinals, and Bengals were ahead of them.

I'd have thought Green Bay or Philadelphia would've been up there... of course the Eagles' LBs are a work in progress... Maybe even the 49ers?

Switch Chicago with Green Bay or New Orleans and I agree with it.

Ah, now I remember where I completely disagreed with Sapp. He said the Saints weren't included because they didn't improve over the Offseason. They added Aubrayo Franklin and Shaun Rogers to a DT corps that already had a solid starter in Sedrick Ellis. They also drafted a bookend to Will Smith in Cameron Jordan. Martez Wilson could strengthen an LB corps that's relatively weak outside of Vilma, and with the additions to their DB corps, their secondary looks to be among the deepest in the league. Given that they were already the 4th best defense in the league, I don't see how they're not a Top 5 defense coming into 2011. I also agree that Green Bay needs to be on there.

Not sure I'd put the Bears or the Pats in the top 5. Replace them with the Packers and the Saints and that looks better to me:

PIT
GB
NYJ
NO
BAL

Disagree with pretty much all of his list:

Steelers
Jets
Packers
Ravens
Saints

The Bears lost more than they added and weren't top 5 anyway. The Patriots are playing a mix of 3-4 and 4-3 and I'm not convinced they're top 10, nevermind top 5.

Ehh, Im still not sold on the Saints as a defense. What we did to them and what Seattle did shouldn't happen to a "top 5" defense that has a top 5 offense on the other side of the ball. If that defense was half as good as what people think they'd lose like 3 games all year, every year.

I put most of that blame on the SB hangover. Whether they want to admit it or not, its only natural to lose a little motivation after a championship run. And we all know they didn't take Seattle seriously, and thats the biggest mistake you could make in the NFL.

Add that to the fact, they had an excellent draft/FA in terms of adding some talent to the D, and I really like their defense this year.

Top 5 defenses can have bad games. Not exactly unheard of.

Patriots D is not top 5 lol, they can't stop a nosebleed. There,I said it

Steelers are still number 1 and our Ravens will be top 5 again with our rotation getting so much better . Green Bay and Jets are up there as well

Yep, this identifies Warren Sapp as an idiot.

New England finished 25th in yards allowed, and 8th in points allowed, and he ranks them at #4.

San Diego finished 1st in yards allowed, and they're not in the top 5 of his list.

Idiot.

I agree completely. I'd put the Packers ahead of the Chargers, but neither team's present on his list which is just a head scratcher.

Sapp has always been an idiot, so i dont know why yall are suprised he has these awfull rankings. Besides the Bears and Pats its solid, but thats 2/5ths of his list thats just remarkably stupid.

Insert GB, PHI, NO (even though Im not a big fan and dont think they are top 5, its certainly a debatable position), or SD (same as NO).

The Pats may have added some pieces in Ellis and Haynesworth, but losing Banta Cain and the fact that they werent very great in the first place definitely doesnt equal top 5

The Saints defense were definitely a let down in those 2 games, but it's not like they were the only top rated defense to have a disappointing game. Ray Rice destroyed them in our contest, but I doubt that rush defense should be of much concern with Franklin and Rogers stuffing the middle. Their performance against Seattle was inexcusable, but I feel that they've improved on an already solid defense.

key word: Last season.

The list is alrite in my opinion. I think the Pats will be a top 10 D this year, but not top 5. Packers should be in there, though they did lose Jenkins, but he really didn't prduce much more than a pass rush. We might end up number one though, I think we have the most upside of the defenses listed.

Even during their superbowl run, while their defense was solid I never really bought into them being "elite". Id be surprised if theyre a top 5 defense this year in all honesty. While they've added some good pieces (always liked Shaun Rogers). Defenses can have let downs, we had our share last season. But I never felt watching the Saints there was a time they dominated a good offense.

I actually agree there. I didn't like their defense the year they won the SB either. They were more opportunistic than good.

But I liked the growth of the secondary, and with the much improved d-line, I think the can become top 5. Sure they have talent, but they actually have a DC who would know exactly how to use it.

Add in the fact that Drew Brees threw 22 picks last season.

I mean the Saints defense was huge for them in the postseason. Call those turnovers "given to them," but recognize that they made plays against the Cards, Vikes and the pick 6 vs. the Colts. It just goes to show that without a defense, there will be no title run.

Did I really just see the Patriots on that list? Did he say why? If so, can someone pretty much explain why he thought so cause I fit perfect description of post #2. Thanks!
