Anthony Allen Or Jalen Parmelee Or Both

79 posts in this topic

In the limited time that I have watched, running back Anthony Allen seems to be an excellent running back.

Jalen Parmelee has been a excellent special teams player and 3rd running back on the depth chart for I think 3 years now.

Is there room for both or do you think one may get picked over the other.

We won't be keeping both, and Allen wouldn't last long on our practice squad before being picked up by someone else. Cut Parmele loose, keep Allen.

Anthony Allen really impresses me, and he should be #3. The only reason Ricky William ahead of him is the experience. Give this kid 1-2 yr under his belt, he'll be a great backup RB.

I think we can keep both. Jalen is versatile so Harbs likes him, and of course A. Allen will be Ravens for awhile.

I always liked Parmele. I seriously thought he would be the back-up this year. But once I saw this kid Allen at the M&T TC, I feel in love. Then the PS games helped even more.

Now I say we keep Allen. He's a bruising back. Someone that could come in handy this year. So Sorry Parmele.

Still don't completely understand why we picked up Ricky. I guess that was before they really saw what we had.

Is Matt Lawrence still on the roster? I'd imagine that if he is, he'll get cut.

Kick off returns will be greatly reduced with the new kick off rules, so that's a big disadvantage for Parmele (IMO).
Not sure if he's on punt coverage or not?

Anthony Allen....done and done

Parmele has been here for a couple years and he really hasnt done anything to move up the ranks or deserve more playing time. Thats why we went out and got Ricky Williams..if Parmele had the confidence of the coaches it wouldnt be an issue maybe

Allen has impressed me, almost to the point where I believe that we could have at least gotten by without Ricky Williams. I've never been convinced about Parmele as a RB and I think we've got other guys who are good on ST but also better than him at their respective position (LaQuan Williams for example) so I think he's shown the door.

This is an interesting point of view. You gotta think Cundiff is going to put 95% of his kicks past the end zone, unless he is told not too..

I've always liked Parmelee, even when he was with the fins. But A.Allen looks extremely quick and as someone else said, bruising.

I was kind of hoping they let Anthony Allen get a shot at the backup role early on too..but Ricky is a good blocking RB and he can catch the ball well..and he still does have some game left so i was alright with it

I really think it should be Anthony Allen. Really. He runs like a horse (in a good way) and is very powerful and speedy.

On the other hand, I sort of like Jalen Parmele. I thought he had good potential. And then of course, Anthony Allen pops up and crashes the party for him.

I hope we can keep both, but I kind of doubt that. Oh well. Just hope our running backs get a lot of these:

Yeah I'm not at all unhappy about us picking Ricky up, I just think that retrospectively it might not have been necessary as Allen has impressed. Also, I think that due to his size, Allen could become a good blocker for a RB.

I hope Allen actually sees some time, gets about a dozen runs or so.

I agree on Allen, I think he has a lot of talent and can develop into a quality back in this league. Parmele is not really needed anymore IMO.

I do still like the Ricky Williams signing. He didnt cost much, and he brings experience to the RB position that we wouldnt have had if Allen is the #2. You still have to keep in mind the chance that Ray Rice could get banged up, and if that happens is Allen really ready to take the majority of carries? Can he throw quality blocks in Pass-protection? We saw Ricky throw a nasty block last night that saved Joe's butt.

I'm liking Anthony Allen a lot. He's played like a Raven all preseason. He should make the roster in my opinion. Allen definitely has that bruising running back characteristic of him that complements Ray Rice's talent very well.

I personally don't like Parmele. I would take Anthony Allen over Parmele any day. Let Parmele be on the Practice squad again or cut him either way he's not worthy of playing in a regular season game.

I say keep both, preferably stash Allen on the practice squad. Parmele is the more explosive of the two in my opinion, running a 4.4 at almost 230 pounds, but Allen is more of a thumper. Parmele is more versatile, being able to run inside and outside as well as take return duties, therefore I think he's more valuable to the team. Plus Allen has been playing mostly against 3rd string defenses, with a scrambling quarterback. RBs are always better with running QBs because they have to play a wider contain instead of sealing the edge normally. Personally, I feel like he's the flavor of the week.

I made this exact same thread a while ago. The consensus is still that Allen needs to be the #3 RB, Parmele's special teams contributions can easily be replaced by LaQuan Williams or Reed. Allen shows incredible size, good vision, follows his blockers well, and keeps his legs moving through contact. Honestly, he might be outplaying Ricky right now (strictly running between the tackles, Ricky is obviously a better pass protector and receiver).

Allen doesn't have Parmele's open field speed but he's able to burst through the line just as quickly. Parmele's fumble last night seals his fate IMO. Parmele has been with the team for a couple seasons and has failed to impress enough to earn any quality snaps.

You're right, Allen might be the flavor of the week. But he's shown more potential to become a starter in this league than Parmele. Parmele is the better option for special teams, but he can't push the pile and break tackles like Allen.

You can't just say you'd "stash Allen on the practice squad". After showing what he can do in the preseason, any team could sign him if we tried to put him on the PS. We could very easily lose him to another team. Since we just drafted him, I don't see us wasting the pick like that.

Keep Allen, hands down, no contest.

Guy's a rookie out of a silly triple-option offense that's only going to get better.

Unfortunately for Parmele we have too much talent on our roster to carry a 4th string Runningback.

We picked up Ricky because he blocks like a fullback. Did you see that block last night? That was awesome.

You must not remember players like Cedric Peerman who we drafted in the 6th round and cut or Allen Patrick in the 7th. You're right, I dunno if we can stash Allen though. Allen may end up becoming a better lead back, but when you're a 3rd back, you need to do more than just be a good back and Parmele simply offers more value. If we didn't have Ray RIce and Ricky Williams, this may be a different story.

I think that Allen has been too productive to not keep. They like Parmele as they have said before but Allen has shown results, albeit in the pre-season and you could make that argument but they'd look real dumb getting rid of him after the success he's had regardless of the situation. He reminds me of a Marion Barber sorta...mostly because of the dreads

Let's see, a guy we drafted this year that has shown nothing but potential for a big bruising back or a guy we grabbed of the Dolphins PS couple years back that has lost his KR duties and rarely touches the ball.

No problem, threads come and go. It's too bad we didn't get to see more of Allen in game 3 beside that 20 yard run he had and the dropped TD.
