Hows My College Schedule Look?

26 posts in this topic

I am pretty nervous going into college, which is on Monday, and was wanting some advice from you all and an analysis on how tough/easy my schedule will be (classes strength and time management). I appreciate any advice on this, as you all are like an extended family to me. Here's my schedule:

1) Computer Apps (already taken 3 classes of this nature in High School) - MWF; 9:05-10:00

2) Intro to Probability/Statistics (already took this class in my Senior year, 2nd Semester which wasn't but a couple of months back, but only on a High School level) - MWF; 11:15-12:10

3) Composition 1 - MW; 12:20-1:45

4) General Psychology (already took this class on a High School level in my Senior year, second semester) - Tu/Th; 8:00-9:25

Work schedule:
1) Tutor for the colleges academic scholarship program; Tu/Th; 9:30-12:00 (supervisor seems pretty easy to get along with and she said if you don't have anyone to tutor, do your homework or get on internet)

2) Dollar General: Sa/Su - 8:00 to whenever

Is this a tough schedule, not only for class strength but also for time management (that is, getting needs done but also getting some kick back time as well)???

Also, if this matters any, I am going to a Community College, and I had a 3.92 GPA along with a 23 on ACT the first time (and only time) I took it.

Thanks!! Sorry it was so long haha.

You have to hustle after psychology to get to your tutoring job, but otherwise it doesn't look too bad. Have a great semester and enjoy every minute of your college experience!

It's not an easy schedule, but certainly doable. Don't be afraid to quit any of your jobs. School comes first, then having fun, then money lol

Man, that schedule reminds me how much I enjoy being out of school.

You should go back to Arena Football.

Well, see here's the thing. I need my tutoring job because it gives me a $1,000 dollar scholarship through the college. Also, my other one, they are going to an automatic scheduling thing, and the manager told me that I may not get many hours at all. I need the money though to make trips to and from the college (which is about 20 minutes away), though I'm getting paid $1,600 dollars this Semester for my grades in High School in scholarships, so thats great. My parents won't let me quit my D.G. job or I would haha, especially them telling me that I may not get many hours at all due to them going to automatic scheduling.

I had too much fun. I tell myself now, I wish I studied harder when in HS/College. I let myself enjoy the life a wee too much instead.

This. Thinking back now, High School was sooooooo easy, it wasn't even funny, but I was into other things so I didn't focus as much as I should have. Now I'm in and out of college, but that's life.

I know right. HS is the make or break portion. If you come away with good grades, you go to a better college which gives you a shot at better jobs. High School was so easy but I spent more time worrying about girls, HS basketball and partying. I know I could've been so much better in HS.

But you can't go back. And the life lessons somebody learns can only be passed down to the youth. But the youth doesn't want to listen. Its the vicious circle of life.

That felt deep.

i know a lot of ppl with masters or bachelors from good schools going in for job interviews at UPS or some other jobs u wouldnt expect a person with that level of education to go to those jobs

theres fewer jobs and more ppl going for them, i went for a job interview once and they interviewed a couple hundred ppl for 1 spot..it pretty insane i had no chance

I am not a college edumicated fella and I do alright. BUT I wish I would have finished college!! Went to UMBC, but didnt finish because I got distracted by immediate $, instead of thinking long term. Again, I am doing alright, but being self employed I have struggled like everyone else from time to time. WISH I HAD A COLLEGE DEGREE!!!

Very true. I feel good about the industry (Finance/Accounting) I'm in, because it pays well and young kids don't want to go into it. The competition isn't as great as 'graphic design' or 'business administration'.

Should I work during this time?? Because I'm getting paid $1,634.50 for going here. I have to pay 80 a month for insurance, 50 a week for gas (which equals out to 200 a month), and 25 a month for my cell phone bill. That adds up to, in four months, being $1,220 during my Semester. I still have around 250-300 dollars left. Should I work, or should I just call it quits?

Only thing about it is, my parents want me to work during this time. But I don't want to feel overwhelmed with college/work/family and friends time, ya dig?

talk to your parents, its good to work at the same time because you're making a little money but you're going to have a lot of homework, if you get into the semester and it becomes too much then quit a job

That's up to you, but I'd give your schedule a good month before making any decisions. If you find yourself falling behind in classes, etc., it may be time to think about cutting down the hours at work outside of your scholarship obligations.

Just an update on how things went the first week..... I loved it! I realize that there will be a ton of homework/studying to do, but I actually find I now have a ton of time to get that stuff done in compared to High School. I love the freedom that college affords (eating McDonald's Angus Burgers during Stats class/wearing Anquan Boldin jersey to school while rocking a Ravens hat at the same time), and I enjoy my break on Monday/Wednesday. I found that Tutoring is not really a job; rather, its more like a homework time for me to get stuff done in, which is a major plus.

In regards to work, I've decided to give a 2 weeks notice in at Dollar General, so now I am free on the weekends.

In regards to the whole financial aid/scholarships check I recieved from going there.... I originally thought I'd be bringing in 1,634.50. Well I got my check today, and it was almost a 100 dollars extra (1712.50). I have myself budgeted and all that, like a responsible adult lol, and found that I'll have over 600 dollars to spend as I wish. Originally, I was set to pay my Dad back 240 dollars for new tires on my Blazer, and an extra 50 for the tags.... well, I only have to pay 50 since Dad said not to worry about paying him back.

Well one thing I would tell you is to not be so open with your finances, and it's not a good idea to let people on the internet know your daily schedule.

You'll be hopping but best wishes!

And I agree with whomever said don't be afraid to quite one of the jobs. Ejimikashun comes first. Time management is critical.

Have fun! :)
