I was looking at Scouts Inc.'s list of top 200 players and I saw that they have Yanda ranked higher than Grubbs. This made me wonder which was the better player.

I don't hear a lot about Grubbs, just that he's been a good, solid, reliable performer for some time now. Yanda on the other hand is praised for his mauling capabilities in the run game. Another thing which you may consider is that Yanda's versatility makes him more valuable to the Ravens.

So, who do you think is better?

You dont hear much about Grubbs...which is a good thing when it comes to the OL

Grubbs does a good job, Yanda does a good job too...I think Yanda gets more attention and is probably better seeing as he can play G, OT, and C if needed

I think it's because Yanda was one of the big free agent lineman this year so his name got out a little more. Grubbs is my pick.

Yanda's huge contract got me thinking about Grubb's future here. I'm pretty sure his contract is up next year and if not than the year after. I can't see us paying both guards a ton of money. I think the turnover on the offensive line will continue next year with a new center and LG.

Turnover always happens but the Ravens do try to keep their own and I can see them trying to but with Ray Rice and Joe Flacco also coming up for new deals he might be the one left out in the cold so to speak

We need to somehow keep Rice,Grubbs and Flacco if we want to be successful for years to come. All three are necessary because they are the young core of this Offense. It would be sad to see Grubbs leave because hes been our most consistent O-lineman since hes arrived.

The right answer is skewed here because Yanda has not been let to play his natural position -- guard.
If the Ravens had done a better job as an organization setting their OL, we would not even be entertaining this question. Doesn't our 2010 run game show that?

If we had a bad a** OL we would have been in our 2nd Super Bowl. I argue that this is where as an organization we have faltered as of late.

I think that Grubbs is the better guard but Yanda is more versatile being able to play guard or tackle. Grubbs has been incredible since the day we drafted him and it would be a shame if we lose him next year

Grubbs has been a mainstay on our line for awhile, but Yanda's versatility to me is what makes him more valuable. You cant stick Grubbs at RT and watch him do the same things Yanda can.

Grubbs contract is up after this year? I hope we are able to come to a long term agreement with both Rice & Joe before next off-season so that we could use the Franchise Tag on Grubbs to keep him here for at least one more season next off-season. It would be nice to keep both Grubbs & Yanda but we can always find a replacement for Grubbs in the Draft, younger and cheaper.

I think theyre equal because theyre both very very good at what they do. you cant penalize grubbs for only being able to play one position because at that one position he is probably a top 5 left guard in the league. This sounds like an Oher situation where we cant say hes better then sed left tackle just because he can play both Right and Left tackle. We dont penalize ngata because he cant step out and play linebacker (even though hes agruably the best nose tackle/defensive lineman in the entire nfl) like suggs who could play on the d-line and obviously linebacker as where he plays now.

grubbs he could probably play tackle too he was a tackle in college
[/quote]

Pretty sure he played guard only (well, except he started his college career as a DE and was a LB in high school).

Not to derail the thread, but it's interesting - they have Birk as the #2 Center in the NFL.

Also, our former C/G, Jason Brown, is #4.

The AFC North has 3 of the top six, Birk (#2), Pouncey (#3) and Alex Mack (#6)

Carry on... :)

BTW, I'm certain that Grubbs & Rice will be re-signed. Flacco's contract isn't up until 2013. Ngata, however, is the priority.

No worries, it'll get done.

Grubbs is a franchise Guard. He has the skills set to block for the QB switch to the running back and then back to the QB as in a trick play.. This guy is the real deal!!!!!

It's really close in my opinion. Yanda is a better run blocker, and Grubbs is a better pass blocker. Yanda's a mauler, and Grubbs is more of a technician. They have different roles, and have their own skill sets, but I think Yanda's physicality and versality sets him apart. But if you ignore those two things, they really are just about equal, they just have different skill sets.

im surprised Grubbs is getting so many votes, Yanda has shown to be more versatile, both guys are good enough to go to a Pro Bowl..

Yanda is probably the guy with the mean streak...which is good, u need a guy who can do the small stuff and has some mean in him

Yanda's name has been thrown out there because of FA, but Grubbs is definitely the better Guard. Last year, Yanda may have been more valuable because his versatility, but this year I'd definitely choose Grubbs.

If we lose McKinnie or Oher, the Ravens will likely let Reid man the RT position and keep Yanda in. For that reason (unless 2 tackles get injured out of McKinnie, Reid, and Oher) Yanda's versatility isn't as valuable.

They said they will sign Joe this offseason coming up, you dont let your QB go into his last year of his contract..and Flacco wanted it done this year remember..so they will resign Joe next year

Who thinks he's an OT. Besides me accidently writing Tackle because I was discussing both positions in the post I haven't seen anybody claim he's a Tackle.

Someone else mentioned that he was a tackle in college, when in fact he was a DE, TE (not long) and was a LB in high school.

Yea, but the dude said "he can probably play tackle too" which would logically lead you to believe he's saying Grubbs naturally plays a different position. Unless he meant center (very unlikely), he was obviously inferring guard as his spot.

Nope, he said what you quoted followed by "because he played tackle in college". Wow...can't believe I am arguing something that is in "print" one page back ;)

I realize there was more to the quote (I was just quoting a specific part of it). I was just emphasizing the fact that based on the word too he obviously knew that Grubbs doesn't play Tackle in the NFL.
