So they were able to get Kerry Collins to unretire but not Favre? That's a shock.
I think Favre is pissed off right now cuz he's looking for a reason to come back but the Colts ruined it by not asking him....

Wasn't someone joking about Collins coming out of retirement the other day????

Yeah good luck, Kerry. Think the Colts are feeling a little desperate right now?

Yeah, and they're playing the (new and improved) Texans on Week 1... I think Indy's lock on the AFC South is in jeopardy. The Texans are building a good team.

Just listening to Mike & Mike, they pointed out that Peyton fell to the #10 ranked QB last year, and I certainly wouldn't look for improvement, with him missing all of TC.

The Colts are fading... This IS Peyton's 14th season, after all.

I know, I think they were crazy. They aren't thinking about the future. Joe Montana went to Kansas City in his 13th year, and faded away. Peyton's 35 - and even though he's had the consecutive games streak - he's not going to improve at this point.

Aww man, if Peyton misses extensive time the Colts are getting the 1st Overall pick.

I don't think I've ever seen a team as reliant on 1 player as the Colts are on Peyton Manning. If Kerry Collins starts week one against the Texans the Colts lose, convincingly.

It would be just like the Colts to suck the one season it could do them a world of good.

Replacing Peyton Manning with Peyton Manning 2.0? Not fair.

I don't think they'd be number one pick terrible. They have some good defensive players and they've just put some effort into strengthening the O-line, not to mention Wayne and Clark are two very good players. I think Collins could do a passable job as their QB if necessary. I also doubt Peyton's neck keeps him out for that long.

The Colts would be one of the worst, if not THE worst team in the league without Manning.

The same was said about the Steelers last year. Though the Colts don't have the defense the Steelers do. But sometimes teams seem to play well through adversity.

Defense + a running game.

The Colts really have neither anymore, except for Mathis + Freeney rushing the QB.

I read today the Colts are paying $4 Million to Kerry Collins... something tells me he's starting because you don't pay a backup that much money.

Of course he's starting. The Colts' Curtis Painter experiment failed already.

The Colts should have been prepared for this eventuality long before now. Peyton isn't a machine!

They'd be my favourite for the 1st overall pick if Manning's neck is much worse than it appears.

Manning makes all of their skill position players look better than they are. Given, Wayne and Clark are good, they wouldn't be half as effective without Manning. Without Manning nobody's going to respect their passing game, which would lead to their mediocre-at-best Rushing attack getting destroyed. Outside of Saturday their porous O-line consists of 2 rookies and scrubs.

Their defense is built to play with a lead. Outside of Mathis, Freeney and Bethea none of their defenders are anything more than mediocre.

I feel confident in saying that if the Colts had to start Collins for the entire season (all hypothetical since Manning's neck isn't THAT bad, I think...) they'd be pretty much a lock for a top 3 pick.

I wouldn't say lock for top 3... top 10 definitely, top 5 maybe. Like you said though, I doubt Manning misses so much of the season that they do get such a high pick. Hopefully it's long enough to see them more or less out of the playoff race.

NFL Radio this morning made the comment that Painter should start only because he is more familiar with the system but otherwise he is horrible. The split in the locker room with the QB situation and Manning's neck problems could make this a very long year for Indy. Peyton's neck could be a long term problem and affect him for the duration of his career. I see the Colts falling hard and fast.

Wouldn't it be great if they started out 1-7? I don't hate the Colts, but that would be hilarlious.
