How Will You React If We Lose To Pittsburgh?

It really doesn't mean much at all.The game in the later portion of the season means much more to the teams morale as both teams head into the play-offs.

Or, if we lose (god forbid), we can call Troy Smith! Sorry, just had to throw it in there. I have my settings set to alert me of an edreedfromtheu post with the name "Flacco" in it.

LMAO!

I hope you all don't question my fandom lol, but I have a bad feeling about this one. I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but I think we have a team that doesn't walk into a stressful game and start off well. It always seems like we have the jitters until the middle of the second quarter, then we settle in and really look good. I hope that is not the case with this game, because it was weird last time, the last time we played them we came out hot and played well immediately. I hope we come out firing on all 11 cylinders, and pop them right in the toothless mouth from the get-go. This is going to be hard to watch, I know that. First game = Steelers?? Are you kidding me? It sets up all the emotions. lol

If you asked a coach which game he would rather take given a choice he would pick the later game. It shows where your team stands heading into the final phase of the season after dealing with inevitable injuries, player developement, etc.

I'm pretty sure both of these teams will be fielding different players when that time of the year comes around

......and if Flacco is putting as much into this game as you believe he is we're already screwed.

Okay, that's your opinion. I believe you're wrong. Also, our second meeting with them is week 9 or 10. Beating them at HOME is very important. I am not sure how you don't see that.

My Reaction: If we lose.... I'll accept it because of the fact there will be 15 games left including Week 9 where that will be when the AFC North will be won. Whoever happens to win the second game, will have a inside track to the division.

Board's Reaction:

- Fire Harbaugh

- Fire Cam

- Fire Cam

- Fire Ozzie

- Release Joe

Then Board Crashes!

I believe both games are just as important... Just my opinion though

Like a lot of people are saying, it would depend on how we lost the game but even with that being said I will be upset factoring in its the first game of the season and a home game at that. What would calm me down from being upset is reality will kick in by the next game and I will come to understand we would be better prepared for them the 2nd game rather than the 1st game with so many new acquisations in key spots including a new D-Coordinator implementing a new scheme.

Now, if we lose to them the 2nd game its going to shake my faith up a little as well as players like Ed and Ray with them debating do they want to come back for another season but seeing we can't get pass the Steelers, why should they come back. Now, in this same season if we were to run into them in the playoffs and lose again then all faith will more than likely be lost believing that we will neva beat them with Big Ben at QB and I'm sure Ray and Ed will hang up the cleats b/c all they are doing right now is playing for a SB and I feel they believe this years team has the best chance with the exception of 06.

I'd be worried about game 1 against the Steelers since your team has a somewhat refreshed face. The defensive secondary is probably where I would be most scared. I mentioned it before that even though you have great athletes, Ben makes it a sandlot kind of game which some players aren't use to right away, especially dbs who might have to cover a guy for 7 seconds.

Also, there is no need to bring up our offensive line, yes, plain and simple, they suck. They've sucked for 5 years now, I think the Steelers intentionally don't focus a large chunk of money on the o-line because Ben still wins despite the very lackluster performance of the O-line.

But the biggest factor between last year and this year is special teams after a score. The move up to the 35 is huge for the Steelers given how poor our special team coverage has been over the years. Your touchback boy kind of loses his edge being before only a small number of guys could get tbs, but now a large % of the league won't have to focus on coverage as much.

Not being a Steelers homer, I just see the Steelers ragtag kind of offense performing better at the beginning of the year vs the Ravens which may need a few weeks of tune-up before they're at full steam.

Good luck

The thought of this topic just makes me sick.

And no...we won't lose. I don't care if it's week 17 or week 1...every Steelers game is huge.

I want to win because it is a football game that counts. Also it is the steelers. Hell, I am pissed if we lose any game. Now that being said.

I dont think it will make one bit of difference in the media. After we beat them last year it didnt. They will still knock on Joe. They will still favor the Steelers. It doesnt matter to them if we win or lose. The only way the media will change their view about this is if we sweep them this season. Hell, and maybe not even then! We win.... it will be "We got lucky and the steelers just slipped early", we lose.... it will be " see the steelers dominate them always" It is a no win situation with those people.

This game matters to the fans and this team and that is it.

Week 1 is huge for the whole team's psyche... if we lose, it could start a downward spiral. Flacco and Harbs (and the D) need to get this monkey off their back and finally beat Big Ben. It's time!

the only reason the media didnt make a big deal out of your win is that Ben didnt start......not because of favoritism

if the patriots didnt have tom brady and the steelers beat them the media wouldnt shower us with love either.(see 2008)

and they shouldnt because beating a team with their backup QB in is not the same thing

I will be ...ugh.

We have a more talented team overall than they do. I think at this point it is a mental thing.

This team is built to beat Pitt, make no mistake. Their O line is weak, their secondary is questionable. Neither of those issues have improved in the off season. They are still who they were last season. We will beat them.

Totally agree... one team beating another team's back-up doesn't prove anything, although Joe's comeback (against a healthy Pitt D) in Pittsburgh was quite impressive.

of course you would be happy either way......but if your looking for the media to fawn all over flacco for out performing our 4th string QB
then you dont think falcco is as good as i do......because thats what a top QB does

Brady wouldnt get praise for beating the colts with painter or i guess collins now

so expecting it is foolish

I hear ya prophet. and that is a good point. But you have to admit, the steelers are a media darling. I will admit they are not a league darling. (LOL) But they are a media darling.

The point I was making is that no matter what, we are not going to get any monkey off our back with the media by just a win in week one. Sorry, it just wont happen with Ben starting or not. Frankly I could care less about the media. The very least we can do to get over the hump will be a split and a win in the playoffs. With Ben starting all three. Maybe and just maybe then The ravens will get some respect.

I'm already bracing myself for it. That way, I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win. But I don't see how we can be favored in this game, it just doesn't make sense.

Yep, we're 2 1/2 point favorites.

in regards to the media darling thing i will say this

we are widely thought to be a great team so commentators say alot of good things about us but we dont get talked about nearly as much as the following

cowboys
patriots
chargers
packers(even before superbowl)
jets

so even though i will admit the ravens are farther down the list of media favorites than us

i wouldnt call us a darling

harrison gets more press then the rest of our team combined right now

I will agree with the Jets. They get more smoke blown up their [profanity deleted] than a stage at a rock concert. But I would say Green bay after the SB.

Actually, with the 3 point homefield avantage, that's saying the two teams are even (one 1/2 point is nothing - it only breaks ties).

And I'd say that's accurate, the two teams are mirror-images of each other, and pretty close in talent.

What would really kill the media bashing us if we were to beat them in the playoffs. Sure, a regular season win would help but nothing would be like beating them in the playoffs. We could sweep them in the regular season and the media would still probably favor the Steelers a little if we were matched up against them in the playoffs.
