How Will You React If We Lose To Pittsburgh?

148 posts in this topic

I really don't wanna think about it. On one hand, there's fifteen more games to be played. But on the other, its another heartbreaking loss to our most hated rival, not to mention all the crap we gotta hear from their fans. I hate losing to Pittsburgh.

This would hurt the morale of the fans like us... We almost had these guys last year and over the course of the off seaon we should have gotten better so I feel that it definitely would sting a bit..

I'd probably have to buy a new pair of shorts, after being so mad I'd mess my others.

Whoa whoa whoa. What? You defecate when you're angry? Please tell me I'm reading that wrong.

Suicide.

This seems more appropriate.

I'm not worried about how the fans will react. I'm worried about how the Ravens players will react. The fans can be depressed and disenchanted all they want, as long as a Week 1 loss doesn't derail team morale and focus. If fans are this passionate about the significance of this game, imagine what it means to most of the longer-tenured Ravens.

Oh and I actually think the Ravens will lose in Week 1. There's just been too much turnover on this team, and although I think they set themselves up to get better later in the season, short term I think having all these new guys starting will hurt them, specifically on offense. Even with the defense, I think guys like Jimmy Smith will have it rough at the start. I like the Ravens chances much better in Week 9, even if it is at ketchup field. And truthfully, I'd trade a Week 1 win over Pittsburgh @ M&T that's only on regional tv, for a Week 9 win @ Heinz that's on SNF. I think Week 9 is a much more meaningful game and would really make a statement if they could pull out a W there.

My reactions last year were mildly reminiscent of childhood tantrums but, if we loose this year - only regarding the first game - I probably won't be as upset. Last year we were pretty evenly matched and, in my opinion, each game we were slightly better. We won our first appearance, in Pittsburgh, with that sweet pass to Housh. It was suffocatingly close game, in that I found my self holding my breath numerous times (especially at the end). I was so glad to have defeated them. Our next match-up with our rivals was a smash-mouth game. I mean, we broke <Ben's> nose! Beautiful! Yet, we made our mistake in the end which cost us the game. Lastly, we faced off in the playoffs. We were killing them. The had no answer to us. All we had to do was play good defense and run the clock... but we didn't. We gave up the ball three times that game, which ultimately cost us the game. In my opinion, as a team, we were better than the Steelers. We made too many mistakes last year to be a real contender for the Superbowl (and I think we all knew that if our mistakes persisted it would cost a SB appearance, which it did). We're a different team this year. We have a different DC, who is very aggressive. Our offensive line is coming together (finally!). We have a speedy receiver in Lee Evans, and experienced receiver in Q. Young, fast receivers who will threaten other teams D's. We have a SOLID running game with a machine-like blocker in Leach. I trust that we're going to give the Steelers a run for the money. Plus, we have the momentum of the crowd; home advantage. If we loose, though, I have no doubt it will be because of the inexperience we've had to face in the off season and what little time we were given to remove it. When week 9 arrives, provided we stay healthy, we will slaughter the Squeelers. They'll then take them to make adjustments to playing us during the play-offs. That will the game of games this season...mark my words.

Well.. we play them twice, so i'd just be ready to see them get stomped the second time. That's right, if we lose the first one, I want to dominate them the second time. It'd just tickle me pink

The schedule makers were not kind putting their biggest rival in the first game of the year but if the Ravens lose then they will just have rebound and go to Pittsburgh week nine and return the favor.

It depends on how we lose to them! If we blow another 2nd half lead, I'll probably be in Best Buy Monday looking for another TV!!
The only other alternatives would be to lose another close one or get blown out. For me, it doesn't matter how we lose, I won't react well. haha

Like someone else already said, it will depend on how we lose. If it's another one of those games that the Ravens dominate for the first 3 quarters and lose it all in the 4th, yeah I'll be pissed!!

I am a Ravens fan win lose or tie until I die but......I would be a much.. much... much happier fan if we win! Sept 11 is already a day of sorrow, that will not change, but it would be nice to have something on that day that will bring some cheer.

GO RAVENS!

It's hard to overstate how important this game is. We tied the Steelers at 12-4 - it's that close... One of the things I LOVE about football is that, since there's only 16 games, everything is SO magnified. In baseball, with 162 games, who cares if you lose one game? But in the AFC North, this one game could determine who wins the division.

Can't wait.

Well, I think tomorrow will show us just how ready this team is to play the Steelers. If our first team offense fails to impress for the 3rd week in a row, we may get a very real glimpse of our pass-attack this year. This is of course, considering current OL injuries, but still.

Hurl myself off a bridge?

KIDDING

Probably just begin to look for any silver lining and hope for improvement from the young guys as the year goes on. I do think we'll be more prepared to beat them in week 9 or whatever. It was incredibly lame for the league to schedule this as a first game - for both teams. I've talked with the more rational Steeler fans who I can stand (all 2 of them) and they are in full agreement.

I had a whole tailgating area set up in our driveway during last years playoff game.
When my wife went out for her post game smoke we heard a loud crash.
She went out and swiped everything off the table with her arm.
Guess she was not happy. lol

im not saying that it means anything but out of all the teams this Pat Kirwan visited, he speaks the highest of the steelers. That made me sick. However i dont have a preference on how i will feel if we lose in week one because we are going to win. period

Another thread made me think of this, but I am once again sick over our loss to Pittsburgh in the playoffs. Mostly due to the lead we had just being picked away the entire 2nd half.
During the off-season I have been able to forget this loss. Now the thought of seeing the black and gold in Baltimore in a couple weeks has brought back the memories.

I will not be at this game (for the first time ever) since my son's first football game is also that same day. This is probably a good thing.

But considering we ended our season losing to the Steeler's and to possibly open the following season losing to the Steeler's is more than my stomach can handle right now.

whew......
It really depends on how t he loss happens. If it's the Ravens, again, shooting themselves in the foot... if it's a couple really horrible calls by the officials on scoring plays... if it's the offense just not being able to do anything... or if it's the defense giving up a huge play at the end of the game when the Ravens just can't let them get into the endzone...I won't be surprised. It would just be "more of the same."

It will make it a lot harder to care about the following week's game, and really any game until the Steelers end up losing to someone else and the Ravens get their chance back at the division. If the Steelers take off from that game and go on a winning streak, it'll just compound the feelings.

With that said, if the Ravens WIN in Week 1, everyone around here will have a HUGE sigh of relief and get a big old monkey off their back. Flacco especially! And if that happens, he might just take that next step to being as "elite" as I've heard so often!

The same way I always do...

fiery rage coupled with gut-wrenching nausea.

Hopefully I do not have to experience such things this season!

Or, if we lose (god forbid), we can call Troy Smith! Sorry, just had to throw it in there. I have my settings set to alert me of an edreedfromtheu post with the name "Flacco" in it.

They could, but they've got Tyrod Taylor now. And they've gotten rid of most of the receivers that Troy Smith had experience throwing to here in Mason and Clayton, so he'd be learning new receivers all over. It's not nearly the same situation as it was the year Troy was in line to start but got a terrible lung infection.

You're right....he did have that one game with 48 completions! Oh wait, that was his entire carer here in Baltimore!

I am totally kidding and just messing around for those who haven't picked up on it :)

I will stay away from this place, thats for sure!! I will be livid if we lose, there is no doubt about that!!! But the morale around here will be suicidal!!!

Yeah, in the first half of the exhibition WIN vs. the Chiefs last week, the Game Threads section was screaming with negativity... if we lose to Pittsburgh, it may just melt down.

I'm already bracing myself for it. That way, I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win. But I don't see how we can be favored in this game, it just doesn't make sense.
