no matter what it will hurt on many levels, but the writing is on the wall. Every one pretty much knows it will be this year or next. yes it sucks, but it is what it is.
Every one wants to see Lewis and Reed go out on top. They will. Hopefully with all of our blessings and support.

Ultimately we are as ready as we will ever be.

We wont know how we'll look until we see who their replacements are. Neither of their replacements are currently on the roster.

I do not like to think about this topic. Ed and Ray are once in a generation type players, just so special. We will be ok as an organization because we continue to draft well and bring in quality players. But it is so rare to find players of this caliber, they have set the tone for what it means to be a Raven.

I will be ready to move on from Ray Lewis the moment we acquire Patrick Willis. Unless another LB comes along that is at Willis's category I don't think I'll ever be ready.

As for Ed, I just don't see a replacement for him coming any time soon.

Its cyclical. Just like some of the other topics.

1) When will we wear the black jerseys?
2) Flacco vs. Matt Ryan
3) Is Flacco elite?
et al.

man dont bring up those topics haha, i dont want that to start again

Not until they both get their superbowl ring, no.

Fortunately Ray has his ring. Ed is the one who really needs his ring.

Ugh. I never wanted this era to end. But you can tell its close. I think Ray only has one more in him and he is done. And if they win the Super Bowl I really think that both of them will retire. And I think this is the year that they put it all together.

Ed Reed is a HOF'er even if he never gets a ring, unfortunately many 'experts' in the media will say Reed isnt as good as some other guys....cough cough because he is ringless, I hope we can win the SB for him..and some other guys on the team too

Ray Lewis will retire if we win the SB..but he will probably come back for 1 more year if we dont, unless he really drops off, but i dont expect that to happen..he keeps himself in too good of shape and is too smart, even if he loses a step he still gets there because he knows where the plays going before it gets there

Its IMPOSSIBLE to replace a guy like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed...but its not impossible to replace or get similar production from those spots, I'm sure Ozzie and co will find quality players to take their spots. Its always tough when you lose a player of their caliber

Has ed reed even been in da game 10yrs? I know he has permanent or nagging injuries.....but I expect 15yrs from a safety of his caliber.

15 years? Now way he makes it that far...."Nagging" isn't even the word for his injuries. They are injuries that are threatening his quality of life. I say he's got 2-3 more years (inclusing this one), unfortunately.

There's another spelling error on the post of mine you quoted! Ugh! :)

I wish Ed could play 5 more years, just don't see it.

In terms of the defense, we should still be pretty formidable with Ngata, Suggs, and hopefully Smith being the big 3. But in terms of a replacement at Ray Lewis's position, we are definitely far from ready. While our secondary could survive without Reed, our ILB core would suffer mightily without Lewis.
