"Giant Joe" Flacco If We Beat Roethlisberger's Steelers Out Of The Playoffs?

34 posts in this topic

Giant > Big

Since it would be a career first, how about we start calling him "Giant Joe" Flacco just to get the irk of Steeler's fans if this is finally the year where Joe leads the Ravens to beat Roethlisberger's Steelers in a meaningful game. I know Joe plays the Steelers defense and he already beat them when they were healthy in week 4 last year, but if Ben was the QB perhaps Joe wouldn't have gotten the ball back in such great field position for that final drive or at all. That's just the truth of the matter.

Also, I'd like to see - and faithfully believe this is the year - we either knock the Steelers out throughout the regular season and don't see them in the post season (though they're too good of a team to miss the playoffs), OR we meet in the playoffs and finally beat them and imagine if Joe has a better game than Ben.

Giant >>>> Big

I like "old timey" nicknames like "Giant Joe" or "Big Ben," too. And it'd be coolest if we started calling him that right after he one-ups Ben and gets the "Big Ben" monkey off our backs (0 wins - 6 losses. YUCK)

okay - I see the intended humor and reasoning in your thought process but really why??
Because it's going to happen this year and the talking heads need that kind of nickname fodder to recognize his tremendous arm?

Plus I'm pretty sure Joe is taller than Ben.

Joe is 6'6, 245 pounds. Ben is 6'5, 241 pounds. It's essentially a wash.

Except Joe isn't "Husky".

nicknames are earned based upon how players....umm..play! so, for me, UNTIL Joe wins that "Big" game(s) consistently, i won't be calling him "Giant." hopefully, he can get his"Moe-Joe" working this season! lol! I don't think a nickname is necessary. See Peyton Manning & Tom Brady, arguably the two best quarterbacks in the league. Bazooka Joe is funny, though. Makes me think of bubblegum.

I understand the idea behind it, but I wouldn't have the nerve to do so until we beat them on a consistent basis, like Ben currently does to us (pains me just to type it).

Ben's nickname has nothing to do with beating the Ravens so why would Joe's nickname have anything to do with beating the Steelers???? Just an observations.

hold on...one of Ben's nicknames (given to him by his team mates) is "The Ravens-Killer." wonder how he got that one?

Come on guys, I just think it would be sweet if I'm watching the 2011 AFC Championship game from some other country during my trips, it's the 4th Quarter 17 - 14 with 1:33 seconds left, Flacco's driving down the field methodically, and then finally on 3rd down and 1 time out left with like 14 seconds left he finds Torrey Smith in the endzone to go ahead 21-17 and, Flacco finishes with 300+ yards, 2 tds 0 interceptions and Big Ben has been picked off twice and Al Michaels is raving about the comeback and talking about how the Ravens finally beat the Steelers with Ben and the camera shows a sign saying "Giant Joe > Big Ben"

I'm in. If he helps lead the Ravens to a win Week 1, I will from that point forward refer to him as "Giant Joe." Perhaps I'll even make a sign and bring it to a game. If we can eventually get the media to pick up on this and start using it when comparing the Ravens and Steelers, and Joe and Ben... that would just be icing on the cake.
