Troy or Finnerty?

26 posts in this topic

Just wondering from all of you on here who you think will stay or who will go Finnerty or Smith? No room for 4 QB's. I personally think Boller should go and we should keep Finnerty and Smith. Please don't take it to heart Boller fan's just my opinon we all have one =/.

I think u are asking the wrong group of guys/girls. U will be hard pressed to find one person on this broad to say Troy smith should go

The question should be Smith, Finnerty, or Olsen.

There are good reasons why these three guys were passed over repeatedly by every other NFL team. I'm not too excited about any of the three, thus far:

- Although Olson hasn't shown much -- he has shown more than Smith or Finnerty.

- Smith may be too small to play in the NFL -- his future may be better in the CFL. Also, his choking in the national championship game.

- Despite Finnerty's achievements, it's all been Division II.

Let's see if any makes an impression in training camp.

Sorry, but you can't make generalizations about going on a thousand other board members!

As to:

I personally think Boller should go

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. Fortunately, Oz knows a bit more about managing the team.

I think this is Boller's last year on his contract with the Ravens. It's a battle for the number 3 spot between Olson, Finnerty and Smith. That is if the Ravens keep 3 QBs on their roster, they might put one on the practice squad.

Don't think it would be a smart move to let Smith go.. but whatever happens, happens.

Release Boller? That would be a huge mistake.

dont think troy is leaving baltimore anytime soon. the future is within him.

I think the most likely scenario is that Olsen transfers to another team as 3rd string or possibly backup and we keep Smith and Finnerty. By the time the roster is finalized, Smith becomes the 3rd string QB and Finnerty is put on the practice squad.

the ravens wouldnt have drafted smith if they didnt have any intention of keeping him. of coarse hes staying. and boller is gonna be a free agent and troy will be number 2. :D

Actually the word around Owings Mills is that Troy Smith will be kept as 3rd string. His arm is stronger than Olsens' and has more accuracy and touch. This also has been improving during mini camps. Olsen will probably be kept on P.S. That however, is still being competed for by Finnerty as well.

Aaron smith article Answer: I think Drew Olson will not be able to beat our Troy Smith under most foreseeable circumstances. Troy is a better athlete with superior arm strength and talent. I doubt Olson will be able to compete=/.

It's too early to say, but I have a feeling that Smith will be #3, while Olson and Finnerty fight it out to make the practice squad. After all, McNair is getting older, and they're going to need a #3 guy when Boller takes command and leads the team to 2-3 Superbowls.

Heh I wish Boller was that good to lead us to 2 or 3 SB's but that just won't happen. But maybe if we make Smith #2 and give him chance's he may lead us when McNair is gone to 2-3 SB's stink's he doesn't have the height but he has accuracy, and is smart, and can run like vick. I think he will turn alot of head's down the road and it will be a steal of a pick we got him at the future is with Smith :). In Troy WE should all TRUST

'Run like Vick' and 'smart' is a contradiction in terms. :P

At any rate, I haven't seen anything from Smith yet, so I'll have to watch the preseason games before I can judge him. I make a habit of never judging a quarterback based on how he did in college.

I wouldn't say that Troy Smith runs like Vick. I would compare him more to a McNabb. Vick is just freakish when running and can single handed prove a rushing attack for his team. Where as McNabb has sneak speed and runs when he has to. I see Smith as that type of QB, move around well in the pocket but looks to throw before running(at least in his senior season)

Finnerty is a better runner then T. Smith. He is good on the move but he is no Mike Vick or even a McNabb.

Yeah maybe? havn't seen the guy ever play, but I'm a Troy fan all the way I want to see him in the next year or so become our #2nd stringer if McNair is still here. And if he isn't then our starter. Hopefully Boller will be out when he becomes a FA which will open up the door's more for Smith.

I think we should let Olson go, keep Troy as our #3. Finnerty is a very good player who can hold down the practice squad and come up next season (assuming we let Boller go). Even though Finnerty played Div. II that doesnt mean he wasnt a good player who cant play division I, he probably came from a smaller high school base, where he wasnt recruited much. Dont count out the Div. II players, think about Jerry Rice.

Very well written post I agree with you 100% about that. Olsen should be let go and Finnerty moved down to the practice squad and keep Boller and Troy on the roster. Plus hopefully this Preseason Troy will get most of the playing time so he can move up to the #2 spot on the roster.

I see Troy doing very good things in the future for the Raven's (and if so what a steal! in the draft pick). Heck I see him taking us to a SB, and Boller will be a Free Agent and hopefully like rumors that have been floating around Boller will be let gone after this year. Then (HOPEFULLY) my boy Troy will be taking over for McNair when he retires!!. Only thing that isn't so great is Troy's height situation and his weight..(But he will put on pnds and Muscle with our nice facility) it's always nice to have a big tall QB but the boy has a rocket arm and is very very accurate and he also is a very intelligent young man and can actually run! unlike Mr. Kyle Boller.. I see him being the next V.Young to the NFL except for his size, just my opinion :).

I def. agree with this. Troy is not going anywhere. He has looked great and has a ton of upside and promise. He has done it on the big stage (although did not look as sharp in the end as everybody knows)

After all, McNair is getting older, and they're going to need a #3 guy when Boller takes command and leads the team to 2-3 Superbowls.

I hope that is a joke.. Boller is gone after this year.. Especially if Troy continues to develop.

There's no chance of Boller slipping out of #2 this year. He's just too good. But yeah, he'll be gone next year. If McNair went down on the first snap of the season, and Baltimore went 16-0 and won the Superbowl under Boller, people would still want him out. There's just too much bad blood.

Finnerty is a better runner then Smith. Smith will be ahead of Finnerty on the roster. Smith will be our #3 this year.

Yeah well I'm sure were going to have problem's getting him to sign as we got him as a 5th round pick and everyone knows he isn't worth s 5th round pick. We just got lucky everyone passed and may be scratching their heads now.. wondering why what a stupid mistake luck was on our side. :P

Not really, if he stepped up and performed like that, I would have a whole different look at Boller. If that were to happen and we got a score of 11-5 or better it would put some faith in me that hes gotten better and can play as a starter.

EDIT- To stay on topic, I think Troy will get the spot. His popularity is to much to give up.
