My question is, why didn't we even attempt to resign Gaither (who signed cheaply with the Chiefs) and then stick Oher at RT

That would've solved everything, and our line would've returned to 09 (or 08, w/e it is) form
Gaither hasn't practiced yet from what I've heard. Right now he's spending a ton of time on a stationary bike. The guy is a major health risk with chronic issues.

McKinney is durable just fat. Find a way to keep him motivated and he's solid.

Well he passed his physical...with an exclamation point twitter says...whatever that means
No, he "completed" his physical. That doesn't mean passed. We will find out soon.

Didn't pass just yet, just completed. They still need to get results on his blood test, cholesterol, etc.

He sounded upbeat. But even if its something minor, they can always get him to sign a waiver. Much like how KC probably did with Gaither.

Well Minnesota had a clause in his contract that he had to keep his weight at a certain level, so i'm sure we would have similar clauses, and incentives in his contract to make him work

I know this is a huge if and was difficult with the lockout and everything...but you cant help giving a little thought as to was drafting Jah reid really worth it?...Maybe because of the lockout we didnt know what free agents at the coveted left tackle spot would become available...but if this was a normal season i just cant help thinking we could have signed a guy like mckinnie to give us a solid 2 or 3 years at left tackle and move Oher back to the right where he's a beast. Then we either trade up or draft a true left tackle prospect in 2012 to learn under whichever left tackle vetern we signed. Especially with Oher moving back to the right if Mckinnie plays left and with the signing of Levoir...it just seems to me Reid's place on this team is quickly slipping away. just a thought seeing what you guys think

I heard that he is down to 345. Hope he is up to speed to play left tackle. Oher at right is gonna make ray rice in line for a monster year!

That's just what the Ravens listed him at. He's probably well over that mark. That's where they want him to be.

It is definitely worth it. Reid is a special talent. Several teams were eying him. He's going to be a beast in the run game eventually but he still needs time. How it all translates if Oher moves to RT is yet to be seen. But you take it one year at a time.

Is there enough food @ The Castle for both McKinnie and Cody? These guys make Sam Adams and Tony Siragusa look like anorexic 16 YOs. Seriously though, if the Ravens can get Cody down to a svelte 350, they should be able to do the same with McKinnie.

I can't wait to run the ball in Madden 12 this year with Leach and now McKinney added and Oher moved back to right tackle. There will be a lot of daylight.

Yea it sounds like the Ravens, Madden Version, will be solid this year and I can't wait to get my hands on it either.

On a realistic note though, barring everything going as planned, the additions to the team this year look to be positive ones. Another off season addressed in the proper manner and nothing over the top as usual. Again as long as things go as planned it seems Ozzie and management in general have done their job again but now it's on the coaches to fit bodies in their proper positions, scheme accurately and game plan properly, and most importantly the players need to perform.

Also, IDK maybe the Vikings fans are bitter or maybe McKinnie isnt that great of a LT, they all say he gets beat a lot at LT

I said but he was a Pro Bowler in 2009...they said his play really fell off and he got beat a lot...so whatever happens I hope he elevates his game, we cant have Joe get beat up
They're bitter because everything they've said about him is true. McKinnie has had the privelege of playing beside arguably the best guard of the last decade in Steve Hutchinson, which arguably has always made him appear better than he was in pass protection. If we learned anything about the Pro Bowl last year, its that its a joke and a popularity contest. The fact that people voted him into something intended to be a "reward" and the guy can't even show up for their 2 hand touch practice? I put zero stock into pro bowl selections, All-Pros are a different story..

I sincerely hope that McKinnie works out for us if he passes his physical, because I couldn't bear to see Joe go through what Favre had to last year...

With the two years we just brought Jah Reid by signing McKinnie, it may not be a bad idea to groom Jah as our LT for the future. He has the measurables for the position. Hieght, wieght, long arms and the willingness to learn and be great.

Yep, Reid has the LT prototype. All he need is experience....in 2 yr, hopefully he's ready for the task...

Not a bad idea at all, im just a little worried about Jah Reid's quickness and feet, hes a beast as a run blocker but can he go against the best pass rushers on the left side. Im not making an early judgement because he's a rookie and i have no idea how he will progress, but just giving a few thoughts onto whether he really could become a great LT.

As long as he is quick enough, I've been hearing how he has slow feet at the RT position...so if he can improve he has a shot but we drafted him as a RT so who knows

Since we're on the topic of LT prospects on the team, what about Harewood? He's raw but he has the build. Any chance he can fit the mold?

I thought Harewood looked solid against the Chiefs. I understand he wasn't going against #1's but he looked mean and dominant during the plays I was able to focus in on him. if he can stay healthy and continue to get some good reps I have no doubt he could develop into a solid contributor on the oline. Whether he will be starter material is all dependent on his health and focus obviously.
