Weekly Match-ups.

34 posts in this topic

Each week key match-ups in each game are discussed. The Browns are 0-2 and frustrated, and will probably fight with everything they have to get a win on sunday. The Ravens on the other hand worked hard to prepare for their week 2 game against the Texans, which was unfortanatly interupted by Hurricane Ike. The Ravens were looking to jump to 2-0 early but now have to turn their momentum toward the Browns, for thier trip to Baltimore. What are the key matchups in this game?

BROWNS D-LINE- Shawn Rogers is a great mauler inside but I think he'll be neutralized because our interior lineman have great technique along with strength and leverage. I don't think Robaire Smith will play because of his achilles injury so that might be a problem for the Browns. I think the Ravens will run all over this 3-4 Defense.

BROWNS OFFENSE- Derek Anderson isn't a joke, if he gets any time at all he can make you pay. We know the Browns can't rely on their run game too much on this defense. So it will be up too our pass rushers to rattle him and force his throws.(int's)

--Also the Browns have a good special teams and hopefully we can counter that with a little dose of Figures. He was awesome in preseason but got a concusion and hasn't done much since so lets hope he can bounce back and get us good starting field position.

2 things that I know weve already won

Brown against Rodgers.... Thats all our way.

and

Our DL has already won that battle in the trenches with their OL. Our front 4 is just stupid (not in a bad way). They make teams with the best RB look like high schoolers.

Ngata and Gregg on the inside..

Pryce and Suggs on the outside. What OL wouldnt be scared of that? 1 of those guys are bound to get double teamed which will open the way up for whoever is goin 1 on 1.

These are the matchups I am looking at:

Joe Thomas vs. Terrell Suggs - The miracle rookie goes against the agressive pass rusher. Joe Thomas needs to be solid in order of protecting D. Anderson. It will be interesting to see who wins this match-up.

Ravens OL vs. Browns DL - With the addition of Shaun Rodgers and our OL coming off a solid game against the Bengals. Will our young OL hold up? How much playing time will Willie Anderson see? Or is Shaun Rodgers going to break through like he does to his pants after breakfast at Denny's.

Derek Anderson vs. Ravens DBs - Derek Anderson is still looking for his 2008 coming out party, Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow are invited. Will the veteran DBs be enough to keep the party on the D-low for another week.

Phil Dawson vs. Our field goal posts - Our field goal posts are treating this game as a revenge game. Look for them to come up big.

Edwards defends himself quite well with every dropped pass.

If we develop a similar game-plan to the Cincy game, I will feel very confident in our ability to stop Braylon and K-II... If we can get pressure, which I suspect we will, then DA is going to have a very loooooong day, especially if Buddy Lee comes back :D

Just saw that he is gone for good, at least for the season, on injured reserve.

This just made the Browns DL a little less intimately for our OL . . . (as if they were to begin with )

Its only a matter of time before he starts to catch passes again. Hopefully it wont be this week. McAlister should do a good job regardless.

i havnt realy looked into the browns offense that much but out of all the times ive seen them play i think the only player of concern would be kellen winslow he can catch the ball well and seems to be the go to guy when things go bad with the browns.

i think if we can contain him and create pressure it will be a good plus for pass defense.

Winslow is an excellent receiver, as good as Heap, Gates and Gonzalez. However, he's a liability in run-blocking... but the real stud on the Browns IS Braylon Edwards, if he ever learns to concentrate and catch. It the Ravens double team Edwards, and put Reed on Winslow, they'll completely shut down the Cleveland passing game.

Their rushing game is subpar at best. Hate to say it, but Jamal is nowhere near what he was. He'll be lucky to get 50 yards - and Crennel won't play the best back on their team, Jerome Harrison. Harbaugh, with one week of head coaching experience, is a better coach than Romeo Crennel.

Without several costly turnovers, the Ravens should have no problem with Cleveland...

yah i skiped over edwards but only because he hasnt been doing well and i have complete confidence in mcalister.

and for their rushing game yes i will agree with you i dont think jamal is anything to what he was, i meen he might have a few good carries but i realy dont think that will be a big problem for us.

their defense is (yes i will repete it for the million'th time) overated, mabe a little harder to beat than cinci but as long as we can keep a good ground game and not put to much pressure on flacco i feel their might not be any problem. mabe a little less fumble's would help to... :P

Agreed... their defense is terrible. The only thing that stopped the Steelers was the Steelers and the weather... and the Cowboys had their way with Cleveland. Without a turnover meltdown, the Ravens should significantly add to their offensive stats, both rushing and passing. Cleveland's only hope is to have a freakishly good game from Edwards & Winslow - their other WR, Sydney Steptoe, is average at best. That, plus Raven turnovers, is their only possible chance.

Not gonna happen...
Shaun Rogers and that other guy have made no difference to their run D. Completely ineffective at NT.
Actually they have made a impact, but more in the way teams attack them with the running game. Before they would run up the gut of the Browns D and rip them for big gains because their DL couldn't stop them. Now their DL is more build to stop the run so the running game goes to the outside (where Willie Parker got most of his yards) and their LB core isn't able to slow them down since most of their OLBs are build toward rushing the passer not stopping the run.

our secondary will be one of our most looked at units out there on the football field come sunday, seeing whether or not they can cover the browns Wide recievers enough so that Derek Anderson will be forced to look else where for options to throw the football too, im looking for our secondary to have a big day, but in order to do that..they first must cover their man and make sure they dont get away from them at any point in time. Seeing how most of our turnovers occur in our secondary, our main guys will have to keep their eyes open and use their field vision to analze the field and break on the football, if thrown in their direction and if they feel they can possibly make the play out there.

Im sure that at some point in time, there will be help needed for coverage on certain plays, so be on the look out for our safeties to drop back into coverage at certain points during the game and help out. Seeing how a combination of Safeties as well as Cornerbacks create the majority of a team's turnover ratio and what not, they'll be looking to make a play any chance they get, if it is presented to them, which i would expect will occur at some point in time. Our Defensive schemes must be able to pick out what they offense is trying to do, and go after it, with our pressure up front with our defensive lineman and potential linebacker blitzes, it is our secondary's job to make the play on the football if they see the opportunity to do just that and create more/better opportunities for our offense to get back out there and drive down the length of the football field and score.

Our Secondary (i feel) must be able to confuse the Browns Offense into thinking that they'll be doing one thing, then when the ball is snapped, turn around and do something completely different and catch them off-guard, and forcing those ever-so crucial quick decision throws. Which History has proven time and time again, that those quick throws just to try and aviod the sack or tackle for loss of yardage, is something that very often, leads to either mis-cues and mis throws both over and under throwing the recievers OR (what us Raven Fans all like) potential turnover situations. If Our secondary and keep it together throughout the course of the game and maintain focus on whats a hand, and go out there and provide excellent coverage on their man (without drawing those penalties flags) then i feel, not only this team, but this secondary will have a big day come gameday against the Browns.

Hopefully we get to see Fabian and Derrick Martin in the secondary as they were both, at last count, nursing injuries that would have sidelined them had we played against the Texans..

Is Kelly Gregg playing?? I've heard his knee injury is still keeping him down. It might be Ngata and Baanan vs the interior of their oline.

True but having Gregg really helps, he is the best technique guy of the group and has a non stop motor. All of our guys can get the job done though, Got to love our depth :D

Our own Brown (Jason is his first name) vs. Shaun "Big Baby" Rogers is going to be the key match-up in the trenches. That should be fun to watch, to say the least...

yes, but all in all, he is still a great reciever so he must not be taken lightly.

i'd be a little more interested in bart scott on kellen winslow. some ed reed over the top would come in handy.

also, i know flacco looked good against the bengals, but if there ever was a secondary that could give a rookie QB some confidence, it's the browns! these guys are horrible and to that i say that the browns cannot be put in serious championship conversation.

ravens all the way in this one.
