Andre Gurod - Potential Salary Cap Casualty?

10 posts in this topic

With Andre Gurod rumored on ESPN rumor mill to be a potential salary cap casualty, how do you think he would work out for the Ravens? With Birk still recovering and the rest of the depth at Center consisting of either a D-Lineman converted to Center or a bunch of undrafted free agents who have limited or no regular season experience, don't you think the Ravens have their hand on the phone should he become available??

What are your thoughts? Pontificate!

Why on earth would we want a 2 time all pro and 5 time Pro Bowler? Oh wait. That sounds pretty awesome! If he gets cut, I hope we go after him because he would give us a better chance to win than Birk do to Birk missing training camp and how his performance withered at the end of last season.

I would love to have him if the money is right.

If Albert did that to a Raven, he wouldn't be walking off that field......

Man, Gurod got cut up really bad. Needed 30 stitches.

He should have been arrested for assault right after that play. Seriously.

If the Cowboys release him (due to his salary cap hit), I'd consider him; of course, you'd have to release Birk. Gurode is slated to earn $5.5 million, Birk $3 million. I'm not sure how much, if any, of Birk's salary would count against our cap figure; Rotoworld doesn't list any signing bonus that's pro-rated as part of his 2011 salary. If we could release him and have nothing count against our cap, it would be an upgrade.

Talent-wise, I don't think he's an elite player, but he would bring stability. However, having watched Mattison's acceptable play the last 2 games, I think another viable OT or OG would be more valuable... (I don't count Jason Murphy as viable, and the jury's out on DeVoir).

Unless he would sign for near the veteran minimum I think it's a moot point. We won't have the salary cap space if we don't get Ngata's deal done.

Worth a look but I think he would draw too much attention. A team like the Bears with Cap space could be a likely landing spot.

Bryan Mattison has been doing pretty well at Center

I think Birk will be back and ready to go..I think the Ravens are ready to go with what they've got..unless the Ngata deal gets done and some veterans come here for the minimum or close to it. I think the Ravens are pretty much done with free agents

He's been really serviceable despite my original hate. I've been paying close attention to him during re-watch. He does have some pretty big lapses from time to time. You can see him standing there with no one to block while guys are getting into the backfield. As a center you must no who has who. If he can work a bit more on the brains of being a C, he can do well. His technique has been very good.
