...what is anyones thoughts about keeping harper for one year on the team to see what he can do and sending laquan williams to the practice squad and give him a year...then next year if harper plays poorly we cut him and bring up laquan? I understand harper has had problems but maybe finally doing away with the uncertainty and actually being on the team might help him out. Or is there just no place for him due to the fact we already have five WRs making the team plus a laquan williams on the bubble?

I'd be FURIOUS if we kept Harper and tried to put Williams on the PS. Williams has not only outplayed Harper at receiver, he's also been our best KR/PR in the preseason by a wide margin. Reed and Webb might win the KR/PR battle, but you never know when one might go down with an injury. After that fantastic return tonight, I think Williams HAS to have earned a roster spot. Williams has had more impact than all of the other receivers (besides Boldin, Evans, Reed, and maybe Doss) combined. You're forgetting that to place a player on the practice squad the player has to clear waivers first. That means any team can decide to sign him to their active roster and steal him away from us. I would be outraged if that happened. So no, let's not give Harper, who has never shown anything at all, a chance above Williams.

He hasn't caught one pass in 2 previous seasons.

And, like Ngata92NT said, LaQuan Williams has to clear waivers for that to happen. If we try it, someone else may certainly grab him, strictly for his return abilities.

Harper is 6'3", but Doss is 6'2, and both Pitta and Dickson are 6'4", if we need a end-zone jump ball play, like we used to run with Heap.

No chance we keep Harper. IMO, it's Boldin, Evans, Reed, Doss, Smith & Williams, all on the active 53.

David Reed, Doss, Torrey and LaQuan are probably it..along with the known guys like Boldin and Evans...maybe room for 1 more..Brandon Jones is probably it

Ehh, I dont think so. I really don't know many teams that even think about carrying 7 WRs on the roster. Brandon was a camp body, sure he showed some potential, but theres a reason that hes floated aroumd teams, and is 30 years old. Time. To. Get. Young. I'm not saying he's a bad WR, but he's older, and there's no room for him. Rather use his spot on a backup OL, that backup would see more time than a 7th string WR.

I believe Riley is currently with the Broncos. I doubt he makes their final roster though.

I think we all Know what doss can do. He is a prototype nfl 3 wideout and will be a 3rd down machine. Torrey has 2nd wr potential and he is a year or two away. Quan and Evans are a good combo at the 1 and 2 spots for now. We will need a #1 type guy to be drafted in 2014 or so, but the unit is solid for now. I think Evans leaves in 2 years and boldin will be a #2 by then leaving a hole at #1 wr.

For now though I love the way this unit came together considering I hated this unit pre-draft last year
